Namco Bandai has just announced that their Playstation 2 RPG Tales of the Abyss will be making its way to Nintendo's new 3DS system in Japan. They've also stated that the game will be an updated port in full 3D glory.
We've seen speculation and rumors in the past about the game coming to various platforms, but it seems the company is finally ready to commit to this trek to the 3DS and given the system's high anticipation level, it would seem like a great fit.
No word on a North American or European release, but given how new the system will be next year and how most publishers will likely be scrambling to get their titles released for the system, the timing for this one might prove to be key to the game possibly seeing a release outside of Japan.
We'll keep you posted on any future updates regarding the game.

This is still my favorite "Tales of..." game. I'd love to see this 3DS port make it outside of Japan.
What is Tales of da Aybss? :I
I strongly request the power couple of Tales of Symphonia to be secret characters (Lloyd and Sheena _ ).
Awesome, the 3rd party support just keeps on coming for the 3DS.
You know a console is going to be good when everyone freaks out because a game for it is announced.
This doesn't look as good as some other tales games but it still looks like great game. I hope it comes outside of Japan.
Abyss is somewhat rare already, as the PS2 version can go for more than 40 dollars on ebay. I missed the game its first time around and have be pining to try it.
It'd be nice to get a 3D version of the game for the same price!
I personally prefer it would of been my fav game of all time Symphonia but I haven't been able to track down a copy so I'll definately pick this one up!
Ive yet to play this one, I love the Tales series. yet another game to get on 3DS... man the 3DS is gonna cost me a fortune
WHa... I'm sooooo getting it! Please come to the US, Please please please come to the U.S.! It's super expensive on the second hand market for a reason!
Ive only played one tales game and that what tales of symphonia and that was by far my favorite gamecube game so im defentally going to check out this game.
Im loven the 3DS, I think It will replace my PS2 which collects dust (well I mean Ill play my 3DS and not PS2, I have games I want on PS2 but there coming to 3DS soo)
Yaaaaaaaay! The 3DS is seriously going to have the most epic lineup of video games of all time.
Wow, there are enough ports on the 3DS to support a whole navy
to bad this wont come stateside
i have seen this game but never bought it but if it is being remade for the 3DS i guess it really is good.
Oh c'mon, I just bought this game for the PS2. D:
Oh my gosh! I don't care if I have to go to Japan personally to get this! It will be mine! I have wanted this ever since I beat this game about 4 years ago. The 3DS has to be a miracle machine! Wooo
lay off the cruise control, plz -- TBD
Forget Abyss, I want Symphonia 3D dangit! Of course, if this ever comes westside, you know I'll be picking it up.
I didn't really like this one on the PS2, so I might skip it.
Whoa, whoa, whoa, I just bought my ps2 version a few weeks ago! Blasts, I'm going to sell it on ebay.
We're not getting this. Just like we didn't get the DS and PSP Tales games.
Awsome, I loved Tales of Symphonia which is the only experience I had with the series. Plus aside from kingdom hearts there is not alot of news about rpgs for the 3DS yet.
Considering how often Tales games go unreleased in North America, I'm not getting my hopes up.
I really hope this gets released here
Tales of the Abyss... I played it for the first time only recently, but it's quickly become one of my favourite RPGs I've played.
I'm hopeful that this gets released in English. Tales of Eternia on the PSP was released in English... And just like Eternia, an English translation of Abyss already exists. So, I think there's more hope of an English release for this one than if it were an originally Japan-only game.
This is absolutely my favorite game. As if 3DS wasn't good enough already.
