While HD console owners can expect to play Capcom's Dark Void on the big screen soon, the company hasn't forgotten about DSi fans, with a portable version available to download to DSi in the coming weeks.
Titled Dark Void Zero, the game takes its visual cues from classic 8-bit shooters such as Metroid as well as Capcom's own MegaMan series. There's also an amusing back-story to why the title is only just seeing the light of day now, having apparently been developed for a special double-screen arcade machine in the year 198X before that project was canned.
The game itself is looking mighty nice and should certainly appeal to the retro blaster fans among you. Check out the official trailer below and polish your jetpack, as Dark Void Zero is due to land this month.

Wow that looks awesome. Another reason to get more points cards thanks Capcom!
Potential day 1 for me, and I don't care much for the HD versions. Now give us DSiware Bionic Commando!
The thing I like about this game is that it isn't an homage to retro-gaming; it is actual, real-life authentic-from-the-past retro gaming! It's like finding lost treasure... or something.
I remember reading about this project years ago. I've often wondered what happened to it. Now I know. Can't wait to give it a go.
Thank you Capcom.
@Corbie: Do you mean that? This project has me VERY confused...some sources say the backstory for this game is fake, and some say it's real. Who's right?
I'm glad to see how enthusiastic Capcom is about WiiWare and DSiWare, but I wish they would release something other than beat 'em ups on the VC. How long has it been since they've done that?
@Stuffgamer1 & Corbie: The Play Choice 10 was indeed a real arcade cabinet, with some of them featuring 2 screens. (By way of adapting old two-screen Punch Out!! cabinets to Play Choice 10 cabinets.)

So, at least THAT part of the "back-story" is real. But, as for the rest, I think it's just a clever way to tie-in the past with the present.
That actually looks more fun than the console release. It has a Rocketeer/Batman/Mega Man vibe to it. I just wish it was coming to WiiWare!
@Stuff
Let's just play along with it. It's kind of cool even though it's totally ripping off Marvel Comics Sentry idea. (Supposedly he was a character created by Stan Lee back in the 60's who had his own comic, but for some reason everyone forgot about him only to be found in the 90's and brought back into the Marvel canon.)
i also want this for wiiware
I loved playing Player's Choice 10 when I was a kid growing up in 198X. That was how I checked out new games like Super Mario 3 and Double Dragon. I'll be sure to check this out.
Never heard of this one before.
I've had 500 points sitting on my DSi for many months - looking forward to DVZ!
i heard its coming on january 18
OMG..... Im so looking forward to playing the PS3 version of Dark Void, Im now even more ready to play this one. I love classic 2D shooters. I cant wait for this.
damn i was hoping it was a wii game
Wow! That looks so cool! I REALLY wish I had a DSi now!
It's only going to be 500 points!?
Wow, I am definitely getting this!
It looks kinda like a spinoff of Megaman (by the boxart) and it looks fun I should buy this...
Hmm.... might wait for a review.....
Wait, only 500 points?!
Consider me excited.
If it's at all like Super Metroid, I am downloading it.
Really wish it was on WiiWare, too, considering not everyone has a DSi.
Doesn't look at all like Metroid, but looks cool to say the least. I wonder what it needs the top screen for? The video show some pretty ordinary action taking place on one screen. I can't imagine why it would require two screens.
I'd rather see it on WiiWare, myself, Deadly, though fortunately I do have a DSi.
dv zero, sweet.....it only makes sence to be release a day before the console versions drop, imo....
This is the one of the few GOTA have titles Ive seen on DSi. I havent downloaded anything in months. This is going to change that.
probably got the idea after seeing the re-release of dragons lair perhaps?
Damn, now I need a DSi...
Oh. Yes. Baby. Something worth getting for the DSi now, apart from PicoPict.
Never heard of it, Hope its good!
Immediate Download Requested! Hope it comes earlier in the month rather than later, DVZ looks like it could be an instant classic! (Actually, it kind of already is a classic )
Well, after playing the demo of the 360 version, I can certainly say this game has a great pedigree.
Looks awesome. First day buy for me.
Can't wait. Come on, hurry up Monday. Even if this dosn't come out on Monday, at least we still have Starship Defense, Right.
Aw, this is a DSiWare exclusive!? Damn! I need a DSi now...
Was this game truly an arcade game originally, or was that just a clever thing Capcom made up?
I'm gonna get this, it looks awesome!
wii????
