Well, we've made it through the quieter middle months of the year and we're now on the downhill slope speeding towards Holiday 2021 and the busiest time of the video gaming calendar. Switch owners have plenty to look forward to over the coming months — things are starting to heat up, with the return of a fan-favourite franchise and new hardware launching ON THE SAME DAY.
Below we've listed some of the upcoming highlights of big Switch games scheduled for September and October. Beneath these physical releases you'll also find a selection of other games releasing from September — usually physical versions of previously digital-only Switch eShop games — plus a selection of Switch accessories and related peripherals available in the coming months.
Enjoy!

Sonic Colors: Ultimate - 7th September
A remaster of the Wii-exclusive Sonic Colo(u)rs, SEGA's 30th anniversary tie-in Sonic Colo(u)rs: Ultimate brings what is arguably one of the finest 3D Sonic games ever to Switch. We spent some hands-on time with a version of the game, and you can check out our thoughts so far in Alex's video, but we're definitely excited to see one of the hedgehog's best games get a second chance on Switch.
WarioWare: Get It Together! - 10th September
Mario's greedy nemesis Wario is finally bringing his brand of micro-game mayhem to Switch in the form of WarioWare: Get It Together!, the long-awaited Switch entry in the series that now includes a simultaneous 2-player mode and the ability to play not only as the titular villain, but also his friends. We bagsy 9-Volt!
It's been too long since we indulged in some manic micro-games, so we can't wait to play this on 10th September.
NBA 2K22 - 10th September
We've been big fans of 2K's basketball output on Switch, and although it has been confirmed that NBA 2K22 on Switch will be lumped in with other previous gen consoles and won't have several features available in the PS5 and Xbox Series S/X releases, we're still interested to see the next iteration of this premier b-ball series.
Ni No Kuni II: Revenant Kingdom - 17th September
This sequel originally came to PS4 back in 2018, and we've been hoping this might find its way to Switch ever since the port of Wrath of the White Witch. Set 100 years since the events of that game, it was announced for Switch in May in both physical and digital forms.
Ni No Kuni II features a similar Ghibli-esque art style that caught everyone's attention back in 2011, and the Switch version — dubbed the Prince's Edition and out on 17th September — also contains The Tale of a Timeless Tome, The Lair of the Lost Lord and The Adventure Pack DLC.
Super Monkey Ball Banana Mania - 5th October
Bringing content and courses from the first three Super Monkey Ball games to Switch, Super Monkey Ball Banana Mania got many a super simian enthusiast excited when it was officially announced at E3 2021. It's landing on Switch on soon, so there'll definitely be plenty to keep ball-rolling fans busy once the tenth month of the year rolls round...
Metroid Dread - 8th October
Metroid Dread, the fifth installment in the 2D Metroid franchise is coming a whopping 19 years after Metroid Fusion on the Game Boy Advance, but from what we've seen so far it's going to be worth the wait and then some. With a Special Edition and two new amiibo launching alongside the new game — a joint development between Nintendo and Metroid: Samus Returns developer MercurySteam. — 8th October is shaping up to be red letter day for fans of the galaxy's greatest bounty hunter.
Nintendo Switch OLED Model - 8th October
Oh, and there's the Switch OLED Model launching that day, too. Featuring a lovely (and larger) OLED screen compared to the other two Switch models, it also has double the internal memory, a wider and sturdier kickstand, 'improved' audio of some sort and a a fetching new dock (with a LAN slot) that will make the Switch OLED the premium model — especially for handheld players.

Fatal Frame: Maiden of Black Water - 28th October
Previously a Wii U exclusive in the Fatal Frame franchise (known as Project Zero in Europe), Koei Tecmo's Fatal Frame: Maiden of Black Water was one of the few titles that actually made use of Wii U's central asymmetrical gimmick. That coupled with a lukewarm critical reception made a Switch port seem unlikely — we gave it a 2/10 likelihood of a Switch port in our round-up of the Wii U games not yet on Switch.
The franchise has a devoted and loyal fan base, though, and Koei Tecmo has made the decision to rework the Gamepad elements and bring the game not only to Switch, but other platforms, too. A very welcome surprise!
Mario Party Superstars (Switch) - 29th October
And finally, just in time for Halloween, we've got Mario Party Superstars arriving at the very end of October.
Updating five boards and 100 minigames from the first three Mario Party games on Nintendo 64, Mario Party Superstars is the second entry in the series to grace Switch following Super Mario Party. While some might call that overkill, these are incredibly popular party games and the mini-games and gentle competition they contain make it hard not to have fun when it's Mario Party time.
More Awesome Nintendo Switch Games
Aside from the highlighted games above, there are lots more Switch retail games which might take your fancy in September and beyond.
Awesome Accessories For Your Switch
And finally here are a selection of the finest Switch accessories coming up in September and beyond, for your consideration.

Getting Warioware and Cruis'n Blast and then Metroid. Leaving some awesome games for later!
WarioWare for me. Monkey Ball for Mum. Mum loves playing Monkey Billiards.
Such stuffed months soooo exciting!!! But I can hear my bank account crying already … 😂
To be fair only want Hoa, but the physical for EU is not around, also hopeful they will release it later for EU but with the bug fixes
Thanks for posting
Sonic Colours Ultimate has been delayed for the physical version for me till 1st October here in the UK according to the email I received regarding my pre-order.
Really looking forward to Cruis'n Blast,Super Mario Ball: Banana Mania and Metroid Dread... Oh and Sonic Colours Ultimate 🤣
I will try to get these games:
1. Big Rumble Boxing: Creed Champions
Of course i have been waiting so long for a Boxing game with Stamina bar, Guard meter and Super Moves meter like Street Fighter. 😍
2. Kitaria Fables
I like Chibi anthro animals, Harvest Moon style games and more important, Kitaria Fables is an indie game made by peoples from my country Indonesia. 🇮🇩
3. Fantasy Friends: Under the Sea
Oooh... some casual game about virtual pets for kids. 😙
4. Blaze & the Monster Machines
Yaaaay... Kiddie game from Nickelodeon, published by OG Games. 😀
5. The Smurfs: Mission Vileaf
Oooh... Finally a 3D platformer of Smurf games. ☺
6. PJ Masks: Heroes of the Night
Hmm...?
Kinda curious with that game. 😗
Darksiders 3 is the big one for me. But also Lego marvel super heroes, streets of rage 4 anniversary edition and crusin blast. All in all pretty good month.
Super Monkey Ball and Metroid Dread! Both already ordered, so they should come in when the release date comes around. Otherwise still thinking about Mario Party Superstars, but not too much else from these games here. Really hoping Mario Party will be good, and that it includes more than just 5 boards. I find it dumb that it has less than most of the classic Mario Party games thus far, it has potential to have the most boards by far if it brings back most if not all the old ones, even if it would only be from the N64 ones.
Personally, from Sept/Oct, i'm looking forward to :
My wallet is not really pleased by all of this 😅
@BANJO super monkey ball. No Mario in a ball... yet
Metroid Dread, Mario Party and Ori will be picked up by me in the coming months.
Mario Party Superstars
Super Monkey ball is a game a lot of people want to play
Sonic... i dont know yet.
Warioware! Simply cannot wait for it! Potential GOTY, based on the demo.
Then Super Monkey Ball, Metroid Dread, and Mario Party. Tempted by Fatal Frame, but I don’t know. I sort of wish there would be a demo for it. Can’t wait for new Metroid! Also potential GOTY because, I mean, it’s Metroid.
Also, perhaps on the Nickelodeon brawler… it’s intriguing, but it’s heavily pending reviews. The Avatar and TMNT representation makes it more interesting to me than I’d ever have imagined.
Edit: oh and I have Eastward preordered digitally already too. Between Switch and PS5, I don’t think I’ve ever preordered so many titles for such a short period of time. I think I have 9 total preorders in two months. Ridiculous!
That's some good stuff coming. My insatiable backlog hungers, though it's plenty full already, sheesh.
So many games! I’ll be picking up Sonic Colors Ultimate (probably for PC or PS4), WarioWare: Get it Together, Cruis’n Blast, Super Monket Ball: Banana Mania, Metroid Dread, and Mario Party Superstars. I also might get Fatal Frame… just wish there was a physical release.
Metroid Dread and Guardians of the Galaxy are all that interest me here.
PEPPA PIG REPRESENT!!! That Metroid game looks kinda decent too I suppose...
@somnambulance Warioware is potential GOTY territory for me as well. And same, Monkey Ball, Metroid, and Mario Party are the others I'm pumped about. Metroid aside, local multiplayer is looking incredibly strong this fall!
That's a lot of games, that I've already played or don't want to. Or at least don't know that I want to yet, a few I didn't recognize, so there is that possibility I suppose. But currently nothing I plan on getting, for myself or my kids.
Which does happen occasionally over any given 2 month period, law of averages, but usually not for September and October. I think even the underappreciated Wii U always had at least 1 game we wanted every September & October.
Wouldn't be so bad if we had a few games to look forward to in November and December but I'm not sure there are any there either. Next year looks great but those games are still at least 4 months away.😢
Just putting this here in case anyone else feels the same but doesn't want to take the heat for being so negative. You can always blame Covid, everyone else does.🤷
The next two months are jam packed for me. Warioware, monkey ball, streets of rage, Metroid dread, and possibly Nickelodeon all star brawl, Mario party, and cruise n blast. I’m really looking forward to a monkey ball, warioware, and Metroid. They look great!
Pre-ordered Metroid Dread
Maybe Nickelodeon All star brawl at a discount and same with WarioWare
For me:
1. WarioWare
2. Metroid Dread
3. Nintendo Switch OLED
4. Fatal Frame
Others are a maybe.
.5 Super Monkeyball
.6 Mario Party
Metroid Dread!! Can't wait!
Also want Fatal Frame!
Will also get the OLED, I think both those games will look great on it.
"ーエレメントを指揮し、攻め寄せる地獄の軍勢に立ち向かえ。
ソーサレスのクラス・トレーラーを公開!
9月24日(金)発売の #ディアブロIIリザレクテッド は現在PC/Xbox One/Xbox Series X|S/PlayStation®4、5にて絶賛先行購入受付中です!"
Diablo JP "Switch out" so sad
October is going to be an expensive month; I want all 4 of those games. Just as well I don't want the OLED...
Just WarioWare, Metroid Dread, OLED Switch (White, of course), Project Zero (Asian release), and FIFA 22 once it's bargain bin fodder.
I’ll also grab DOOM Slayers Collection IF the entirety of 2016 is on the cartridge (and sell/gift the codes), but I am not optimistic.
@reporterdavid No not yet, there's still time..
For all the girls I highly recommend Olympia Soiree - it is sweet visual novel with great plot and handsome guys to romance.
So what happened to Diablo 2 resurrected? Don’t see it on the list…
only September games I'm picking up are Sonic Colours Ultimate and Eastward
both the doom slayers collection and ni no kuni 2 are what I'll be grabbing
Really good lineup for the next two months!
I'll be getting:
Metroid, Diablo 2, Darksiders 3, NNK2, Crusin and Fatal Frame. Monkey Ball, Sonic and Warioware are also on my radar. Might also check out Tormented if that's good.
Ouch Black Friday is really gonna hurt this year. But will get robot taisen before then.
I love hotwheels, I have them scattered all over my desk right now but I can bet the game is going to be absolute garbage.
