The spooky season is almost over, the pumpkins will soon be smashed or cooked up into soups and pies (or absent-mindedly left to shrivel on the window sill before getting thrown in the trash in a couple of weeks) and November arrives with promises of longer nights, chillier days, and the long-awaited return of Wyclef. Yes, people — we made it into the final furlong of 2020. Phew! While many of us will be glad to see the back of this particular year, there's still plenty to look forward to for gamers of all persuasions, not least on Switch.
In October we enjoyed new releases like Ys Origin, Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit and Pikmin 3 Deluxe (which just squeaks in there on the 30th), and there's more coming up in the final two months of the year, including a return trip to the Hyrule from The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, and what looks to be Ubisoft's take on a similar style of game, with a hefty dose of Kid Icarus added for good measure.
So, it's time to steel yourself for the impending frenzy of Black Friday and the holiday season. Don't worry, lovely people — it'll all be all right in the end.

Bakugan: Champions Of Vestroia - 6th November
Teased by Nintendo and presented by WayForward during a Paper Mario Treehouse Presentation, this might not be what people were hoping for, but Bakugan: Champions Of Vestroia has the potential to blow expectations out of the water – the studio behind the Shantae series certainly has the pedigree and chops to deliver.
We were impressed when we previewed the game recently, so keep an eye out for our verdict soon.
Game & Watch: Super Mario Bros. - 13th November
Sure, its not a Switch game, but it's got us excited all the same. This little beauty will play Super Mario Bros. and The Lost Levels, and also comes with a host little Easter Eggs to enjoy. And an alarm that you'll never use, ever.
You'll need a little luck to get your hands on one of these if pre-orders are anything to go by, but if you can resist putting money down for a brand new Game & Watch in 2020, please pass on that information — our wallets are smarting!
Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity - 20th November
A surprise announcement much in the same vein as Paper Mario: The Origami King earlier in the year, Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity will take you back into the world of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, only 100 years earlier to witness the Great Calamity that befell Hyrule.
We all know how that ends, but we'll be intrigued to see the story play out with the Warriors series' patented hack-and-slash gameplay once again given the Zelda treatment. We're gagging to visit Hyrule Castle Town in its heyday, and we don't have too long to wait.
Immortals Fenyx Rising - 3rd December
Any game that channels the art style and feeling of Breath of the Wild and Kid Icarus is all right by us, and Ubisoft's Immortals: Fenyx Rising (formerly known as Gods & Monsters) looks like a beauty, despite the most generic video game name we've seen in some time. Seriously, it's an 'Origins' away from a parody.
Terrible title aside, we've got high hopes for this one, and Zion was impressed with the game after a hands-on with a PC build. It remains to be seen how the Switch version will hold up, but we've got our fingers crossed.
Fitness Boxing 2: Rhythm & Exercise - 4th December
A sequel to the boxercise rhythm game Fitness Boxing, this new game will add a host of new modes (including a two-player mode), three new instructors (joining the original six) and various other tweaks over the original game — a surprise hit for Nintendo and developers Imagineer when it released nearly two years ago. If you've got the original, you can carry your save data over to the new game, too. Given the shape 2020 has left us in, we could probably do with getting some blood pumping with a little more Fitness Boxing.
Puyo Puyo Tetris 2 - 8th December
A surprise announcement earlier in the year, we're massive fans of the original titanic puzzle crossover, and we're fascinated to see the new features Puyo Puyo Tetris 2 will bring to the table, including Co-op Boss Raids and Skill Battles. Not much else to say, really — it's Puyo Puyo and Tetris... again. Sign us up.
More Awesome Nintendo Switch Games

Yikes .... yikes.... Nintendo finishing stong I see
I currently have the following preordered:
Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity
Immortals Fenyx Rising
Food Girls
Taiko no Tatsujin: Rhythmic Adventure Pack
Sakuna of Rice and Ruin
Abyss of the Sacrifice
That's a lot of physical releases in the next couple of months. Also definitely getting Atelier Ryza 2 but I'll just wait for it to release in other regions in January rather than importing from Asia.
I must have completely missed Root Double being announced for the Switch so that's another to add to the list.
Why can't we get the Asterix and Obelix 3 game collection in America
I'm currently only getting Age of Calamity, although I'm considering on getting the Game & Watch for the sake of starting a collection.
In terms of accessories, the only accessory I'm looking for is a USB-Ethernet adapter so I can use it online. Already own a case, doing fine with Joy Cons, and already own a Pro Controller.
@edgedino
Probably due to licensing issues here. However, there's nothing stopping you from ordering a copy from Europe or Asia, other than not being able to redeem Gold Points for your North American account.
Sniper elite 4, hyrule warriors, pokemon sword
And thinking About mortal kombat 11 Ultimate.
You guys forgot to list Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin on here...
Not bad run up to the end of the year for me: Age of Calamity
Taiko no Tasuijin
Fitness Boxing 2
Bakugan (youngest wants this)
Puyo Puyo Tetris 2
Immortals: FR (need review)
Space Invaders Collection
Sakuna (need review)
John Wick (need review)
If they fix up the technical issues in Hyrule Warriors then I’ll pick that up, I loved the first one on both Wii U and 3DS.
Need for Speed and fynix or whatever it is....
HW: Age of Calamity and Immortals Fenyx Rising are probably the only games I’ll get till 2021.
Are decorative pumpkins really used for cooking? that sounds unsanitary
I'm so excited for Sniper Elite 4. There just aren't many other World War 2 stealth games that I know of.
Why aren't there more third-party Joy-Cons out there (apart from those horrendous-looking split-pads)? Are they that difficult to produce?
@nessisonett They’ll probably clean it up. Warriors games typically get large day one patches on other consoles, so I expect the same here.
@faint Yeah, I do think it’ll be sorted. It’s just a demo so I’m not too bothered but if the main game feels that sloppy then I’ll be a bit miffed as it costs a fair bit!
Cafe Enchante
Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin (Divine Edition - Both Switch and PS4)
Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity
Immortals: Fenyx Rising (Gold Edition - Switch and PS5)
Taiko no Tatsujin: Rhythmic Adventure Pack (physical)
Kingdom Hearts: Melody of Memory
Food Girls
Abyss of the Sacrifice
HW age of Calamity day one for me. Probably Sakuna as it does look interesting. For Fenix Rising i’ll wait for a discount as Ubisoft is often very fast with those and my backlog is already big enough as it is. Not to mention MH rise coming out next year and that will definitively absorb me whole for months.
Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity
I've been looking forward to this one ever since it was first announced. I enjoyed the first game and with this one tying into Breath of the Wild, it's definitely a must-buy for me.
Considering Christmas is around the corner, it'll probably be my last gaming purchase for the year.
Pretty light on new stuff I’m interested in these last 2 months of the year. Only the Turrican compilation is a must-buy for me. Quite a number of games that have already released I would like to get though if the price is right so here’s hoping for some good sales over the holiday period.
Hyrule Warriors Age of Calamity is my first choice. The different controllers also appeal to me.
Would like the Ori games but the price is too high.
Scott Pilgrim, Scott Pilgrim... oh yeah, and The Scott Pilgrim Video Game.
Ended up going for a Game & Watch. Not expecting to get it as I'm pre-ordering pretty long after the announcement, but we'll see.
HW AOC digital.
Probably wait on Immortal Fenyx on PS4 in a few months when it's $20. I've been waiting since this past February, I can wait until next February.
Sakuna, HW:AoC, Taiko no Tatsujin, spiderman:MM (ps4) and Immortals are my holiday games. I’m sure I will get more stuff on Black Friday, but those are my big releases. Looking forward to all 5!
@Dazza no Sakuna??
November will be mostly about PS5 for me with-
Demon's Souls
Spider-Man Miles Morales
Sackboy: A big adventure
Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimate
For Switch I'll pick up-
Stardew Valley
2 copies of sniper Elite 4
Ori and the blind forest
Ori and the Will of the Wisps
Final Fantasy 9
Immortals Fenyx Rising (PS5 version also)
@NathanTheAsian well I also lack a card of any kind like a credit card for example to order stuff online
Pretty poor line-up to be honest. But then again, I have been spoilt for choice these last three years. And still have a huge backlog - something I never accrued on any other gaming system.
Probably just Age of Calamity as far as new releases go. Maybe Immortals.
Still need to grab both No More Heroes games and Ori and the Will of the Wisps too.
Probably:
Fitness Boxing 2
(If worthy even if you have FB1!)
LETS SING 2021
(Coz sick of this year and singing is cheerfully cheering!)
Wow, My Universe games again ! 😀
Fashion Boutique, Cooking Star Restaurant, Pet Clinic !
Imagine games by Microids. 😁
Oh, look... Family Feud by Ubisoft ?! 😗
Ooh.... The cutie games Fantasy Friends, PAW patrol. 😀
So many choices for me.
LOL suprise remix day one for me lol
Age of Calamity and digital Shadow Dragon (UK doesn't have the special edition) are the only definite Switch purchases for the rest of the year.
Looks like the big thing to hope for is a decent showing from Nintendo at the Game Awards.
What games? lol
Fire Emblem Shadow Dragon digital....... that is all!
Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity, Immortals: Fenyx Rising and Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin for me!
I’d also rather fancy the Pokemon Hori d-pad controller (L) too, but only if they’d do an (R) to go with it. I’d find it weird for my L and R JoyCon’s to look so different. Besides, this is the closest we’ve ever come to getting black JoyCon. Aside from a DIY kit of course. Way too fiddly for my fingers!
@nessisonett If you could stand the performance of Hyrule Warriors on 3DS, I’m sure you can handle a few dropped frames on Switch! 😂
why exactly is bakugan spotlighted
@The_Pixel_King Honestly, it didn’t run too badly for me on New 3DS. I heard it was dreadful on the base console though.
@nessisonett I had a New 3DS, but never picked Hyrule Warriors up for it. IGN’s review put me off too much, but maybe I should’ve got it after all?
Trading in my 3DS (and Vita) was a necessity to buying my first Switch on launch day, but lately, I’ve been thinking hard about replacing it (well, them). I‘ve been hankering to go back to the likes of A Link Between Worlds and Kid Icarus, and finally get round to playing Metroid: Samus Returns and Kirby: Planet Robobot. But now 3DS is out of production, prices are pretty steep! Same goes for Vita. I have over a hundred fabulous games like Persona 4 Golden, Dragon’s Crown, Odin‘s Sphere and Muramasa on my PSN account and would like to go back to them between new Switch stuff. I do have plenty of stuff on my PS4 too, but as a handheld gamer at heart, I haven’t fired it up in a while.
@The_Pixel_King I still spend more hours a week with my 3DS or Vita than my Switch. There’s just something about those consoles’ form factor that made them way easier to spend hours playing them each day.
@nessisonett Couldn’t agree more! Both are great little systems. Two of my favourites ever in fact. I‘m actually considering selling my PS4 to go towards replacing them.
HW and Immortals for me, great way to end the year. 👍
Im getting the expansion pass for my birthday, pawarumi looks interesting and maybe hyrule warriors
Is Pokémon Snap officially no longer a 2020 game?
@jahasnell It never was, no release window was given.
Jurassic world evolution?
Yooo FNAF:HW is getting a physical release? Neat might grab it.
Hyrule Warriors and Immortals Fenyx Rising for me, and that's about it as far as Switch releases go.
What I would love to see with Immortals Fenyx Rising, is a collaboration with Nintendo to do a crossover with Kid Icarus. Kind of like what they did with putting Fox McCloud in Starlink Battle for Atlas. Imagine DLC skins for both Pit and Palutena in the game. If anyone out there in Nintendo and Ubi land are listening, make it happen.
Only picking up Fire Emblem remake and a couple of random games (hopefully DOOM 64) when they start the Black Friday Sale in 2 weeks. Most of these games like PUYO PUYO and Taiko no Tatsujin will be on sale in the next couple of months, so not going to rush out to pick these up since I have the first entries on Switch already. Not the best Winter Switch has had tbh.
The new Hyrule Warriors is the closest thing to a blockbuster on Switch this Holiday. Not a big problem for me, personally. I could easily rattle off half a dozen top-tier Switch games from the past two years that I've never picked up.
Actually, I've been hitting up eBay to round out my Zelda collection lately, so those games are probably what I'll be playing over the holidays, anyway.
Age of Calamity if the performance issues can be addressed. Sakuna looks nice, but I'll probably pick it for another system.
Too much else happening else where this year honestly.
I'm shocked there's a second Paw Patrol game, when the first was already five years after the show was "hot". Where was the modern equivalent to THQ to milk it when it was new?
@PikaPhantom I guess because Nintendo itself considered it a highlight game, and maybe at least coming from a developer with a pedigree it hopefully won't be a shovelware game?
Huh? Didn’t Ghostbusters come out at retail last year?
is that 2 chicken range bundle a light gun game for the switch?
I'm probably going to have to order from Playasia... That Pac-Man Split Pad Pro is calling my name. It's just too sexy.
AoC and immortals for sure. Ill also grab fire emblem, and Scott pilgrim which i think is coming out November or December
Isn't Scott Pilgrim meant to come out this year too?
I thought Ghostbusters was already out. Huh.
