Blimey, it's August already? We're well into the second half of the year and while Summertime might be a quiet period for the games industry, Nintendo still has lots of goodies coming up for us to spend our cash on in the next couple of months, so there's no shortage of games to be playing on the beach this summer.
July saw the release of the Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order, Wolfenstein: Youngblood and of course the delightful Fire Emblem: Three Houses, which will no doubt keep us busy for a good few weeks yet ... but what's next for Switch? We've compiled a list of all the good stuff coming out at retail in August, September (and a bit beyond), and highlighted a few of the big'uns. So, feast your eyes and collect those pennies together – there's plenty to spend them on!

Astral Chain - 30th August
The end of August brings us a brand new action game from PlatinumGames in the shape of Astral Chain. As part of a police special task force, it’s up to you to fight against mysterious, alien-like creatures who have invaded the world.
In the Ark, a near-future multi-cultural city, disaster strikes when gates to another dimension suddenly appear! Dangerous creatures begin to emerge, attacking the people and polluting the land, and normal police forces are unable to compete with them. To stand up against these threats, a brand new, special police unit known as Neuron is formed. We were very impressed during our preview of the game and we've got a feeling you won't want to miss this one.
Spyro Reignited Trilogy - 3rd September
The original roast master is back! Same sick burns, same smouldering attitude, now all scaled up in high definition. Spyro is bringing the heat in the Spyro Reignited Trilogy game collection. Rekindle the fire with remastered versions of the original PlayStation trilogy including Spyro the Dragon, Spyro 2 Ripto's Rage! and Spyro Year of the Dragon. Explore the expansive realms, re-encounter the fiery personalities and relive the adventure in fully remastered glory. We've been waiting for this one on Switch for a while now, and we're gagging to see how it holds up on the platform that hosts the undisputed King of Platformers.
Daemon X Machina - 13th September
Defend Earth and defeat corrupted A.I.-controlled robots on an array of missions using your Arsenal, a customisable mechanised battle suit. Choose and equip your Arsenal with a multitude of weapons, obtain more from downed enemy Arsenals, and swap them on the fly to suit your strategy in the face of ever-changing threats that may bring the end of the world.
As you can see, lucky Gunners fans are in for an absolute treat; Spurs supporters might want to sit this one out.
The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening - 20th September
You've already got this one on pre-order, no? In the remake of Link's classic Game Boy outing, he's once again washed ashore on a mysterious island with strange and colourful inhabitants. To escape, Link must collect magical instruments across the land and awaken the Wind Fish. Explore a reimagined Koholint Island that’s been faithfully rebuilt in a brand-new art style that will entice fans and newcomers alike. Battle enemies as you conquer numerous dungeons and uncover the hidden secrets of the island.
Along the way you'll encounter Super Mario enemies like Goombas, Piranha Plants, and more, and interact with unique locals who help Link on his adventure. As you clear dungeons throughout the main story, earn dungeon rooms (Chambers), then arrange them into custom layouts in the all-new Chamber Dungeon. Place your dungeon entrance, Nightmare room, and everything in between as you try to fulfill objectives and play through a new dungeon. Tap compatible amiibo figures to earn more Chambers and additional Chambers throughout the game in updated mini-games.
Of course, the most dedicated Zelda fans, will want to pre-order The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening's Limited Edition, so act quick as these will likely sell out fast.
More Awesome Nintendo Switch Games
Aside from the highlighted games above, there are lots more Switch retail games which might take your fancy in August and beyond.

tip of the hat

Astral Chain and Legacy Of the Duellist for me. Might pick up Oninaki
Spiro, Link's Awakening, Link Amiibo, and No No Kuni are why I'm glad there's nothing I want in August.
Astral chain!
Astral chain, Spyro, Link's Awakening, Guacamelee and neon purple and orange joy con are all day 1.
Same with Ghostbusters the game which now has a release date of October 4th.
P.s. I hope this whole download code is included and no game card in the box doesn't start becoming a new standard 😑.
...what about the Nintendo Switch Lite?
Definitely gonna save up for astral chain, spyro, daemon, links awakaning, and dragon quest 11
Baldur’s gate/Baldur’s gate 2 and planescape torment/icewind dale are both on pre order.
Links Awakening is the only game that I will be getting on Switch but August and September will be very expensive on the hardware side
Link’s Awakening, Dragon Quest XI, and Contra Rogue Corps for me; though my wallet may kindly request that I divide the damage across a couple of months!
Also, Chunners & Cammy on one controller? That’s a lot of hotness in your hands! I may roll with that one day. Still, the nostalgia nerd in me longs for that classic SFII stick!
Preordered Link's Awakening forever ago... not sure what else I'll pick up. Interested in Baldur's Gate and Daemon X Machina and a few others. Might check out "Buildings Have Feelings Too!" just because the title cracked me up haha.
Wait up... Dead Cells is getting a physical release?!
Instant Buy!!
Why does the new contra game look 10+ years old?
Astral Chain, Zelda: Link's Awakening and Dragon Quest XI are must-buys for me. I might look into Spyro and Daemon x Machina, but I can hold off on those games for a while. I'll probably get Ni No Kuni as well, though I do think that game is a tad overrated (I beat it on the PS3).
The PDP Afterglow has literally everything I've ever wanted in a controller!
Dq, astral chain and the witcher 3 will be for me
Cant forget zelda

For me:
LoZ Link's Awakening (limited edition)
Link's Awakening Link Amiibo
Switch Lite
Dragon Quest XI
Baldur's Gate 1 & 2
bold already on pre-order.
Goodbye, sweet wallet....September will consume you.
Hoping Witcher 3 gets a September release
@Trellgoth Dead Cells is already available physically.
Links awakening and Dragon Quest. MAYBE astral chain
Astral Chain and DQXI for me...but Fire Emblem Three Houses might take a while before I get to those!
I'd also recommend Ni No Kuni to everyone, but with so many games coming out in the coming months I can't find time to replay it
this list is missing some games like ghostbusters hd remaster edition.
There's a lot of games that fall into the "looks interesting, maybe" category for me. And I still say if they had symmetrical blue or purple joycons I'd buy a set of both. Or heck even a set with one blue and one purple. But I don't like the yellow or the orange and both the blue and purple are left joycons, so not buying any of them.
Probably nab that Squirtle Amiibo too. Just cause Squirtle.
September is gonna hurt my wallet.
Link's Awakening, Tetris 99, Dragon Quest XI, Baldur's Gate, Planescape Torment & Icewind Dale. And that's coming directly from August's Astral Chain and Collection of Mana. 😅
And if they decide to release Witcher 3 soon too...
@JaxonH LOL, my wallet is glad it isn't yours. Love that you're getting all of these games.
"There are no games on the Switch!"...
...has noone said the last two years
A lot of games
Astral Chain and Zeda Link's Awakening, both pre-ordered, both Limited Edition.
Bring it on Nintendo, my bank account is ready!
Astral Chain for me in August. Then in September, i’ll get Link’s Awaking, and Dragon Quest.
Literally only zelda I’m interested in. Maybe get dragon quest but not sure yet.
@Jack_Goetz hmm, I know it's available for PS4. But so far I haven't seen the Switch version as physical...
link's awakening, turok 2, Friday the 13th, Tetris 99 and Star Wars Pinball for me.
Astral Chain and Dragon Quest, my vouchers are ready for them!
I want to play these two so badly...
The sure buys for me are Astral Chain, The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening (and the Link Amiibo) and Contra: Rogue Corps. I'm sure there will be an E-Shop game or two I buy as well as there has been nearly every month since the Switch launched.
Links Awakening, Planescape, maybe Astral Chain depending on reviews. And I've literally just pre-ordered that Hori Pro Joy Con controller cause it looks frickin' awesome.
I'm so excited for DAEMON X MACHINA
@Quarth
Get pretty big discounts with GCU and elite plus member credit card rewards, etc etc. And, I really like the system, so I buy any game thats good to bulk out the hybrid collection
But this is the last system I'm doing that for. In fact, the last 9 months. When GCU expires, I'm curtailing the spending.
@Trellgoth It's been out on Switch since last year. I've yet to open it though.
https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07D2M526K/ref=cm_sw_r_tw_awdb_t1_x_JfcrDb325BP5Q
Spyro, Collection of Mana, Ni No Kuni, Zelda, amiibo, and Sega Genesis Mini. Not to mention college.
Nintendo wants to make my wallet cry, though Spyro can wait since I have it on PS4.
Astral Chain maybe, not sure about it, I will make a choice after the reviews. It looks great, but I really didn't like Bayonetta. But I did like Nier.
Zelda Link's Awakening will be the only one I will buy for sure.
@JaxonH Understandable. But how do you find the time to play?
@Quarth
I don't have time to complete everything, but its not hard to play everything. When a game arrives I always pop it in and spend an hour with it to see if I like it. I'm still in the "games are amazing and there's so much I have yet to experience" phase. So I buy a ton of games to branch out and see what I like and what I dont.
As time moves forward, more and more I'll have learned what I like and what I dont, and can just focus on what I like. Rest of the generation is experimentation phase though.
@JaxonH True, but I feel a bit stressed if I don't finish a game I like and most of my Switch games I really like.
Not a great 2nd half of 2019 for the Switch compared to the first (if you're not a Pokemon fan). Luigis Mansion is a must buy, but little else (Zelda is a remake, but a pretty one at that).
