Dunk Lords (Switch eShop)
Mark reckons that Dunk Lords hangs with the big b-ballers:
This is as close as you'll get to playing an 'EA BIG' game on the Switch, and that should instantly explain whether this game is for you or not. For fans of NBA Jam, NBA Hangtime, NBA Street and so on.
Fable of Fairy Stones (Switch eShop)
walt likes the voxel vibes of Fable of Fairy Stones.
Watch on YouTubeSubscribe to Nintendo Life on YouTube841k
This is an old-school RPG and the goal is to collect 9 stones to beat the last boss.
I enjoyed it because it reminds me JRPG of SFC era, having a classical map and battles with weapons of my choice. There are even 100 levels of hidden stages after the last boss.
However, what makes it unique is its beautiful voxel art style. Its detailed and colorful style makes what SFC devs wanted to do back then to come true. It simply raises JRPG to the next level!
The story is dramatic but also sad, giving you nostalgic mixed feeling.
Flynn: Son of Crimson (Switch eShop)
NL contributor and thoroughly nice chap Nathan Lockard is in with Flynn:
Flynn: Son of Crimson feels like an homage to Shovel Knight, with tight platforming, satisfying melee combat, and a level-based structure with a world map and branching exits. It even lifts Shovel Knight's recoverable money penalty for dying. (Wait a minute - is Shovel Knight retro?! Double retro?) Give it a go if you're a fan of 16-bit era platformers, or a good doggo.
Gibbon: Beyond The Trees (Switch eShop)
Jaka Kragelj goes ape for Gibbon: Beyond The Trees:
I love that the game made me appreciate the abilities of apes called gibbons.
The game is a simple platformer using three buttons to control the actions. The catch is to learn how to read the environment and predict what's coming. The way platforming paths were drawn into the environment impressed me (You can bounce off the sun shade sails and parasols!).
It's not competitive (no score, no time) so it's for those who enjoy optimizing flow. It offers a daily run though.
Playing it on Switch 2 fixes frame rate slowdowns that occasionally happened on Switch.
Grand Prix Story (Switch eShop)
Mark is back with a shoutout for Kairosoft's cute GP sim:
Out of all the Kairosoft 'management' games on the Switch, Grand Prix Story is the best one I've played. There's always something to do (unlike some of the other ones where you're sitting and waiting for something to happen) and the races are genuinely exciting to watch. If you're a fan of Nintendo Pocket Football Club and you want something similar on Switch, then this is like a racing version of that formula.
Hyper Team Recon (Switch eShop)
MBlaze has recently been playing Hyper Team Recon:
An adorable 3D platformer with paper-inspired visuals. It's not too difficult, but super fun. The cast is so fun and lively, the levels have a good length and there are some bite-sized challenges to do in the hub world. Cutscenes play out like a Visual Novel and the scenes are so full of life and charm!
If Found... (Switch eShop)
Genevieve recommends If Found...
If Found is a visual novel about a woman returning home to her small town on a break from her grad program to have to navigate transphobia while trying to find support and achieve her goals. All the while, an otherworldly plot is paralleled with her experiences. Heartbreaking, brilliant, and inventive with the use of its storytelling and interaction.
ISLANDERS New Shores (Switch eShop)
We liked the first Islanders, and npicone enjoyed the second one:
This is a chill city-building puzzle game that's a sequel to 2019's Islanders. You place buildings and score points based on where they are compared to other buildings, terrain, etc. The game takes what was good about the original and expands on it with new building types and one-time power-ups you unlock from time to time. The graphics have gotten a nice boost, too, while still maintaining the minimalist style of the original.
Kitten Lost Her Box (Switch eShop)
FishyS returns with a feline favourite:
Kitten Lost Her Box is an adorable precision platformer where you are a kitten...and levels end in a box to nap in. The game is extremely short - you will likely beat it in one session - but quite enjoyable. The bosses are really cute and fun and take the game from a standard platformer to something memorable.
Mini Motorways (Switch eShop)
Dinosaur Polo Club's Mini Motorways drove Ben to a recommendation:
Mini Motorways is a minimalist, deceptively complex strategy game about drawing roads to connect houses to destinations. Each week, new houses, destinations, and road pieces appear, demanding you constantly rethink and redraw your city's traffic network to prevent gridlock.
What sets it apart is the elegant tension between its calming aesthetic and its stressful, high-stakes traffic management puzzle. The challenge isn't just if you can connect everything, but how efficiently, before the system inevitably collapses. I love the clean, hypnotic flow of a successful city and the intense, escalating problem-solving required to keep it alive.
Mute Crimson DX (Switch eShop)
recastanho comes around for another flyby with Mute Crimson DX:
Ninja Gaiden meets Super Meat Boy.
Can't argue with that.

Where's mario kart 8 deluxe?
What?

Still no review about BRATZ: RHYTHM & STYLE ?
Cato looks fun
But wheres the reviews on eSlop games???
Nice selection of games (thanks to all those who submitted their recommendations) - when I have the time for it I'll check which ones among those that interest me I haven't added to my Deku Deals wishlist yet, some are definitely already there... mostly if not exclusively thanks to articles, comments etc. here on Nintendo Life!
Great that Toree Saturn can be inserted here. Bad End Theater sounds interesting…
It didn’t make the cut, but check out Arcade Archives: VOLFIED, which is a sequel to Qix.
@Anti-Matter As per the instructions, this isn't about nominating games for review - if you send a couple of lines about why you like the game and would recommend it to others, etc, I'd be happy to include it next time!
I can vouch for Call of the Sea. I played it several years ago. Gorgeous but lighthearted game. Puzzles were fun to figure out, no combat, takes less than 10 hours to complete.
I had submitted my entry through the Contact Us section when there wasn't any open call out for reviews. I'd remembered they were a thing and wanted to get it in while I was thinking about it, but couldn't find any of the articles with instructions. So I was unaware of the character limit. Thanks for putting it up anyway!

@bluemage1989 Standards are overrated
COGEN is pretty good.
Witch On the Holy Night is also nice.
Then thirty games which look like things I have scrolled by a million times. 😅
@bluemage1989 Hi! Are you related to anyone in the Mushroom Kingdom because you seem like a fun guy! Anyways, there are about four or five games here my wizened old self might look in to! Cheers!
I read a lot of VNs and I'd rate Witch on the Holy Night pretty high up there amongst my favourites.
@bluemage1989 I know this is just trolling, but other readers should know that there are some great games listed and it's okay that you don't know about them. Against The Storm was well reviewed as one of the best games on PC in 2023. The console ports aren't perfect but the gameplay is rock solid.
Curious about Bad End Theater and Cardfight!!
I've liked TCG RPGs since playing Yu-Gi-Oh on GBA, so hopefully this is more like that and the Cygames one.
I played Call of the Sea and if you're into that kind of puzzle adventure, it's pretty easy to recommend. Wall World is in my Steam library (gift from a friend) but I haven't gotten to it yet. And Barony has been on our local MP maybe list. Maybe next get together we'll have to give it a shot!
I know Against the Storm and its DLC just got released, but I'm waiting for a good sale before buying.
It has already been on sale a couple of times.
Not much live for Gibbon beyond the trees considering it actually got a physical release, albeit via super rare games.
I’m playing MK1 on Switch 2 I bought from Smyths toys in UK for £7 brand new. It’s fantastic and I’m enjoying the story and controls, coming from MK11 on PS5. Graphics are a step down but still feels a joy to play
@DwaynesGames ooh, thanks for the recommendation. I like Qix but didn't know it had a sequel. Looks fun.
Cato looked really charming to me, but its mind-to-late game puzzles got so absolutely brain-bending, that it became tedious and I ended up dropping it. I would recommend it to people who are looking for a high challenge in their puzzle games, and have a ton of patience and time on their hands. It's kinda like Baba Is You. Single puzzles can take a long time to figure out in this one, unless you have a lot of experience with this genre.
Against the Storm is brilliant. For anyone who loved Caesar III, Pharaoh and Zeus back in the day, you need this game.
I'm intrigued by Wall World, which I had never seen hide nor hair of before. Might add that one to the old wishlist.
Edit: Checked on eShop and it's on sale for £3.59, so I figure it's worth a shot!
Against the Storm, Wolfstride, and Witch on the Holy Night are all top-tier in their respective genres.
I love Islanders and have played it a ton, and didn't know a sequel came out! Thank you for this! Will definitely be checking it out post-Silksong!
@psyraven76 I would give an arm and a leg for Caesar III, Pharaoh and Zeus on Switch!
@GregamanX That's fair. CATO does get super challenging at points, although I found it way more attainable than Baba is You, which I feel like you have to be an absolute genius to beat. I'm no genius but I did complete CATO.
Did you use the hint system? It's pretty great since it's vague enough not to hand you the answer, but also clear enough to nudge you in the right direction.
Atomicrops are fantastic, but performance on NS2 suffers compared to Steam Deck sadly. (playable, but consistently choppy)
@sketchturner Baba is a bit of an extreme comparison, but i couldn't think of another common game that makes me shrug my shoulders in absolute confusion sometimes.
Yep, I've used the hint system, but it is pretty vague at times. I'm also on that 3rd world, and I just HATE the world's gimmick of those toast slices that you have to change between.
I may come back to it someday, but my brain felt fried everytime I picked it up. When I realized I was forcing myself to play it, I knew I had to put it down.
Cool list.
Witch On The Holy Night is so good.
A big hearty recommendation for Call of the Sea from me (although I played it on PC). Verdant, vibrant Polynesian visuals in a Lovecraft adaptation.
Really enjoyed looking through all of those suggestions. Absolutely love this feature.
Card Fight Vanguard DD2 & Witch of the Holy Night stand out in particular for me personally. As does Grand Prix Story.
BTW, I have only heard of 3 games in that list and I like to think I keep a good knowledge of eShop games, even the obscure ones.
I already have mini motorways which is good. Reminds me of a very cool DS/DSiware game
Years ago I remember reading reviews of The Wanderer: Frankenstein's Creature which said the Switch version has some bugs that made parts of it unplayable. For example, here's what The Digital Fix had to say about it back in 2020:
I wonder if this movement bug has since been fixed?
I can vouch for Bad End Theater. Simple yet compelling premise, really sold by the charming and distinctive character art! Doesn't take long but I found it very enjoyable and interesting. Seems to be by the same developer as Syrup and the Ultimate Sweet, for anybody who may have played that one (I haven't yet).
@Zaruboggan Hey, I'm the guy who recommended Cardfight Vanguard! If you like the classic Yu-Gi-Oh GBA games and Shadowverse (the Cygames TCG on Switch), I think you'll like Vanguard as well! It's definitely on the budget side though, so unfortunately there's no 3D world to walk around in (like in Shadowverse), it's more like a lot of the old handheld Yu-Gi-Oh games where between fights, you'll see an overhead map of the town, and there will be points of interest that you can select on the map to see a visual novel-style event scene, usually accompanied by a fight. But don't let that deter you, the core TCG gameplay is extremely fun!
For this next bit, I'll also loop in @LEGEND_MARIOID since they also expressed interest in Vanguard. There's actually a free demo for the original Dear Days on the eShop that you can check out to get a taste of the gameplay.
And if you're interested in purchasing Dear Days 2, something to keep in mind is while its $70 USD price tag on the eShop is a bit high, if you're comfortable with importing games, you can get the physical Japanese version (which has English on the cartridge) for only around $46 USD from Video Games Plus!
Finally, I'll link this 10 minute tutorial video that does a good job explaining the basics for how to play the TCG.
Let me know if you have any questions!
@GregamanX Yeah, world 3 was definitely the most frustrating. Surprisingly, I found world 4 and 5 much more enjoyable.
Thanks for the shout out! Santa's got you on the nice list
Well ‘Be Brave Barb’ and ‘Cato’ just expanded my wish list.
I’ll give Gibbon a +1 too, really nice little game.
@topsekret Thanks for the heads up about the demo! I'll queue it for download.
$70 is pretty steep, though... For now, I'll put it on the wishlist and consider an import!
Fable of Fairy Stones Looks great! I’ll definitely be checking that one out.
@somnambulance @Zaruboggan The ending of the Bad End Theater is awesome. And the journey getting there is so enjoyable too. It's not complex and yet still engaging. It isn't just reading, there's aso a gameplay aspect. The story is smart and funny. The art equally so. And the music is icing on the cake. Being short just makes it a must on everyone's played list. Go play it right now!
Great list. FLYNN, GIBBON, and NORTHGARD all spent some time on my Switch. I have just one question...... HOW THE HECK DID I NOT KNOW ABOUT DEATHWISH ENFORCERS!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?
Interesting list as always.
Adding Cato and Super Alloy Ranger to my wishlist and I'll try the demo of Anna Holinski saves the universe.
Cogen, Hyper Team, Toree Saturn, and Witch On The Holy Night were already on my wishlist but it's nice to see a mini review of them.
I'm glad Be Brave Barb was included - all the games by the Dadish dev are remarkably good and deserve more love.
@Zaruboggan Yeah, I agree that the $70 price for digital feels a bit steep. I believe the original Dear Days was actually the first $70 (standard edition) Switch 1 game, beating Tears of the Kingdom to the market by a few months.
But I think the physical version is a steal at $46. I've played for nearly 100 hours so far and I've barely scratched the surface in terms of the card pool. I'm choosing to experience the cards in roughly release order, so I'm currently just focusing on the first 4 packs and trying to build decks for all the Vanguards in those packs. I'm having so much fun just doing free battles and learning the nuance of the combat system and deck building!
This is the first time in quite a while I haven’t submitted anything since I honestly couldn’t find something I played and loved that didn’t already have a review or already get featured in one of these articles! Great job Nintendolife!
I did somehow overlook Flynn: Son of Crimson which I loved and see did get a shoutout this time around so that’s great! I’m also glad someone “Be Brave, Barb” because I love all the Dadish games and somehow didn’t even know this existed! I just added like 6 games from this article to my already way too large wishlist and backlog but always nice to discover new gems!
Why is Wolfstride ウルフ(Urufu) in Katakana??? It should be ワルフ(Warufu... Wolf) or ワォルフ. Seems to me like a poor translation job and another game that wants to appear Japanese when it isn't.
I can personally back up the outstanding quality of Witch on the Holy Night and ESPECIALLY Tsukihime. Sensational VNs with some of the best character writing and storytelling in gaming.
