Review A Short Hike - A Landmark Game For All Ages
Walking on sunshine
Why do we play games? Exploration would seem to be the watchword, the catalyst for every element of the most diverse and interesting form of entertainment there is. It doesn't matter what you're exploring; all that matters is that it's happening. In the most traditional sense, you're exploring an unfamiliar, possibly mystical...

Guide Best Feel-Good Nintendo Switch Games
I see a ship in the harbour
We've updated this list with a couple more feel-good games to help get you through any New Year blues. Enjoy! Blue Monday. No, not just a kick-ass New Order song, but the name coined by marketers for the third Monday in January (or the first, or the second — all January Mondays it seems!), which is purportedly the...
About The Game
Follow the marked trails or explore the backcountry as you make your way to the summit. Along the way, meet other hikers, discover hidden treasures, and take in the world around you.
• Explore the island any way you like. Choose your own path to follow and see where it leads you. You never know what you might stumble into!
• Hike at your own pace - there's no need to rush to the summit! Take your time fishing along the river banks or swimming by the lakeshore.
• Collect hidden treasures to reach new heights. Try taking a dive off the mountain peaks to soar above the forests.
• Chat with the other hikers you meet along your route. You might be able to help each other out!
• Listen to a lush original soundtrack by Mark Sparling that progresses dynamically as you explore the wilderness.

I just don't like this games art. I feel like it should be like a 3D colorful look, but the low res filter really ruins that look
Me and my kids loved the game, it was perfect for casual playing during the holidays. It's so grounded and pure it makes other games seem ridiculous with their complex characters and intricate plots. Simply put, this is what games are about, or rather what life is about.
Just re-bought it on Steam to support you and give the game one more thumbs up!
The world of A Short Hike has cute graphics styled like an enhancement of a DS-era Animal Crossing game, compelling exploration-based gameplay like Breath of the Wild (without any of the combat), and irritating item-gathering quests like the collecta-a-thon games created in the 1990's.
The overall package comes together nicely, but the main storyline's pacing may disappoint some players. To make the credits roll there is a single objective that is easily accomplished after playing about half-an-hour and completing roughly a third of the total game content. Adding some metroidvania-style progression gates would have improved the pacing of the main story compared to all of the optional side-stories and upgrades that are available.
A Short Hike is essentially a very promising demo that's been made available for purchase. Let's hope we see future games from this team with more content and improved pacing.
Score: 7/10
