Review NES Play Action Football (Virtual Console / NES)
Ready! Hut hut hut…
Coming quite late in the life of the NES - 1990 to be exact - Play Action Football was Nintendo's attempt at creating a realistic gridiron game for their aging, yet still popular console. The diagonal viewpoint is 'fake 3D' which looks a little pathetic by today's standards but was pretty impressive back then. At least it looks...

About The Game
“Ready! Hut hut hut…” Nintendo takes to the gridiron with the classic football powerhouse NES Play Action Football. Featuring a distinct overhead viewpoint that creates an almost 3-D field, the action is more simulation based than many of the more arcade-based games of the time. Play through four 15-minute quarters (in accelerated time) and even substitute players when your first stringers get tired!
Want more options? Each of the eight available teams has multiple running/passing plays to choose from while on offense, as well as a wide selection of defensive schemes that can be run when you’re on the other side of the ball. And in addition to viewing two full teams on-screen at once without any slowdown, you’ll hear voice snippets at key points of the game. Line up, and see if you have what it takes to win the Power Bowl!

Yay, another first party NES sports game...
Man, can we get any good Nintendo games sometime? Last week Donkey Kong Jr. Math, now this week Play Action Football... I'm kinda dissapointed...
I LOVED this game as a kid. One of the first four player games too. It's slow now in comparison but holds a special place in my heart (like Lolo). Definite download!
I guess its appropriate to release this game with the start of the most overly hyped sports game imaginable.
Is this worth 500 points? I guess I'll get it to see how good it is.
It isn't too bad. The game has good presentation at least.
I probably will get hate mail for this, but I thought this game was better than Tecmo Bowl. The fact that there were more plays, you can sub in and out players, and there was 4 player option made the game a lot of fun. My brother and I played this for countless hours. Great buy especially for $5.
I vaguely remember this one. I think I was still doing Tecmo Bowl at this point though. Question: Did this have the NFL license? I can't remember. If so, did they remove it since EA has it exclusively?
And here's another question: Nintendo, Where is 10 Yard Fight?
Anyway, the one reason anyone would have to get this is: It's a FOOTBALL GAME!
Get Tecmo Bowl. It blows this mediocre football game to pieces. I never could get used to that diagonal football field.
Bad game. Not as good as Tecmo Bowl.
