Well I got to the boss floor only to find that I need another key. Oh well, I leveled up my attack to 4 before I game over'd, so I feel much more powerful!
I played through that game again a couple months ago. I mostly maxed out my attack first. I played a lot of the Palace's without beating the bosses and then I went back when my experience level was just right to raise my already highest stat. Later in the game it started to bite me because my health level was so low I needed to be very careful not to get hit. My levels were all maxed by the time I got to the final palace.
Oh, Pix, there is one hard part on the way to the boss. There is this room with a series of open areas where you have to fight Stalfos while statues on the walls are shooting projectiles at you. You can block the projectiles, but I have no idea how the heck you are expected to get through without taking a hit.
If you can't kill the stalfos in one or two hits, I suggest running straight through and letting them jump over you, as they like to do. You'll get hit two or three times from the projectiles, but it shouldn't matter as long as you get there without losing a life. I really wish I knew how to get through there unscathed. I've seen it done.
I can kill 'em in two hits. It's pretty impossible getting through those projectiles though. :/ I did reach the boss but I got pwned quickly since I was on my last life with no health or magic left, lol.
Just beat the second palace, woot! I almost got all the way through Death Mountain, but again I only had one life left over and eventually game over'd, haha. I'm really really really loving this game. It's so much fun. <3
You need a spell from town. Then you go to King's Tomb (grave site in the middle) and head directly south from there. You'll know what to do from there.
At lunch I beat two palaces and got to the penultimate palace but need to hunt down the last magic container. I always forget where they are.
Really, the whole game you should be able to figure out on your own with a little sense of adventure and an urge to explore, until the second to last palace. Remember when you get the whistle to ask here what to do next, or else prepare to be confused and frustrated!
k, awesome, thanks. Death Mountain was actually pretty easy compared to the palace. If you just go right whenever you can and don't take any elevators, you'll end up at the end really quickly. I'm really glad I've got the downthrust now. Haven't had a chance to use it yet but I can see it making a lot of battles a lot less difficult, haha.
Well, you leveled up at the palace. My trouble with death mountain used to be the projectile tossing lizards. You can't block them, so they are dangerous if you can't kill them quickly. Luckily I didn't run into many this time and knew in advance to have attack leveled up, so it wasn't a problem like the first time I played through the game years ago.
Down thrust is really useful. Even armored enemies that you can't hurt that way, you can at least bounce off of them. Once you get to areas where the "random encounters" include armored enemies, this is very useful. Actually, it should already be useful since you're at the graveyard now. I'd hate trying to get past those ghosts without it.
I recall the place before the Great Palace being really really hard.

Well, it's got nothing on the Great Palace, but it's certainly the greatest of the lesser palaces. I think I remember it starting off with a locked door, too, which confused me to no end the first time I played. I find figuring out what to do outside the palace (getting the last spells) more difficult though. Trying to do it from memory this time, but I'm already a bit lost. I was told by an NPC to go east of the palace of the three rocks, but I found nothing there. I'm wondering if he meant west to the ghost town.
wtf, that blue knight is shoot laz0rbeamz at me! He sucks! And wtf again, I can't downthrust iron knuckles. I'm'a sad panda Anyway, got the raft. I accidentally grabbed a life doll, but it allowed me to get the raft, haha.
I just found another life doll. South and west of the graveyard, near where you exit from Death Mountain, wander around there and you'll find a life doll. Not sure which one you're talking about, but if it's a different one, that leaves two you have in reserve for when you try making it to the great palace later on.
I just spend half an hour wandering around the overworld hoping to come across a secret area and find the last magic upgrade. No dice. Might be resorting to some guidage myself, soon, unless anyone has some hints. I always, always forget where the last one is. The game's obscurity can be over the top some times, and this is perhaps the worst case.
