So, we've probably all done it (or thought about doing it): downloading a virtual console game that deep down you know isn't that good but you just love for some reason (nostalgia, etc.) So, what's yours?
For me, guilty pleasure is buying games I love but already own on other systems, which with my rational head on I think is a totally stupid thing to do. But because I want to have them 'near' or something: Zelda LTTP and Super Mario 64.
I've doubled up on many games for 'convenience' ("It's only 1000pts, stupid not to"). But I draw the line at downloading Ocarina which I already have 2 copies of (3 if you include Master Quest).
I regret getting Donkey Kong, but it was only 500pts.
Me and my friend used to play this game all the time on the original cartridge! I just can't pay for it again. I always die pretty fast, it was just good for laughs. But I do understand there is a "momentum" to getting good at the way that game controls... It definitely didn't deserve the 1 and 2 reviews from all the different game sources when it came to VC.
I have every Sonic game... and I've redownloaded every one that's come out... I think it's mostly because I want to preserve the Genesis for my "collection". I still pull out the cartridges for Sonic & Knuckles and lock-on stuff. So I'm hoping they find a way to release it for VC (with a lock-on intact) soon. Then my Genesis can go in a nice sealed box for the next few decades.
I've also done the same thing with the SMS games. I own half of them out, but I still DL them all because I don't want to wear and tear my 20+ year old system. (Wow, that makes me feel old...) Still can't stop playing the light-gun games on the original system though... (And there were ALOT of light-gun games for SMS) Hoping they find a way to emulate that on the Wii (doesn't sound hard)... Then it can go into storage as well.
If Rambo for the NES ever comes to the Virtual Console that would definitely be my guilty pleasure! I remember it being so terrible but somehow its still awesome! I would have to download it immediately!
I have had to restrain myself a number of times from downloading Clayfighters, I used to love it when i was young mainly for the zany art style, but know it would only disappoint now.
I realise that a lot of people 'would rather have a buffaloe take a diarrhoea dump in their ear' than play Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles for the NES. But I downloaded it and totally don't regret it, even though its riddled with problems. When I have my nostalgia glasses on I still love playing this game

Hell yeah! I loved that game when I was a kid, but can't seem to get into it now. start rant One of my favorite VC games is one that everyone disses, yet I still love: Urban Champion. My brother and I used to play the crap out of this game. Of course, this is back when I owned about 3 games or so, so you played whatever you had to death. I still enjoy this game to this day. It's a lot deeper than people realize. Check out the list of moves:
high strong punch
high weak punch
low strong punch
low weak punch
high block
low block
dodge
And lets not forget the stamina bar, falling flower pots, time limit, police, and manholes! All in all, this is a great 2 player fighting game on the NES. The original Street Fighter!!! end rant
Street Fighter II: Special Champion Edition (Genesis)
I had already downloaded SFII Turbo because I wanted a Street Fighter game on my wii. Then they release SCE, which is the version I used to play during the 16-bit days. I did it for the nostalgia and to see the differences between SCE and Turbo.
I downloaded Alex the Kidd for the Sega Master System, just for the sake of having a Sega Master System game. What a disappointment, especially since I don't know how to get out of that castle level, where Alex's brother is locked up. Do you guys have any ideas on how to get out of that level?
Wonder Momo for the PC Engine. It's an excellent port of a weird Japanese Namco arcade game and has added cutscenes of a cheesecake nature which make it all worthwhile.
Final Fight 3. Its just a scrolling beat em up sure and I already had Streets of Rage 2 but I hadn't been able to play this back when it was on the SNES. I quite liked it at first but now I'm bored of it.
Edgey, Gumshoe, Godot, Sissel, Larry, then Mia, Franziska, Maggie, Kay and Lynne.
I'm throwing my money at the screen but nothing happens!
That's just the nature of side scrolling beat em ups, Bass. Even SoR 2 gets boring after a while, despite arguably being the finest side scrolling beat em up ever made. It's just the nature of that type of game; it's gonna get old. You can extend the enjoyment by getting a friend to play with you, but even that will grow old. Still, I love the genre anyway. It's mindless fun. Whenever one is released on VC, I download it immediately no matter how mediocre/generic/uninspired it might be. See the recent "Brawl Brother" games as a good example of that.
