I think I nearly finished it, but could no longer put up with the uninteresting gameplay, and directionless exploration...

I got SoM the day it was released on the VC, I think I have 3 or so hours of playtime. I wasn't impressed ('course I'll give it more thorough go before writing it off though)

Yep! I bought Y's for the SMS as a kid based only on the images on the back of the box. I haven't played the TG-16 version but the PS2 version is fun.

@StarBoy91 ok so its quite lengthy.

I recently tried the game on roms/emulator had a hard time getting it to work, once i fixed it i started playing and i really liked it. I bought it for the VC a couple of minutes ago, (can't beat the classic controller) the music alone makes this a must buy game.

isnt there a port or something for the ds of this game?

Yes, there is, BlackFira. I haven't played the port, 'cause I was a little unconvinced; I looked up that you actually had to press a button to swing a sword in the port. I could understand that with Ys III (it was a sidescrolling RPG), but considering I've always played Ys Book I & II pushing people to slay them, I think the DS experience might be a little awkward by pressing a button to swing a sword in the top-down RPG. Though I might give it a try someday.

This paragraph aside; I too like Ys Book I & II more than Secret of Mana. Both are good RPGs, it's just I'm more fond of the former and it's slightly more fun than the latter.
