Phantasy Star is a 9 for 2009, but will always be a 10 for 1988!!!!

I think R-Type is also worth 9/10. It squeezes everything out of the system and brings to life the real R-Type feeling on that little machine. Though I doubt that it gets a 9 on NL because even the superior PC-Engine version doesn't have such a high rating. But does that really matter?

I wonder what the next SMS game after Phantasy Star and how long it will take to arrive.

Edgey, Gumshoe, Godot, Sissel, Larry, then Mia, Franziska, Maggie, Kay and Lynne.

Ah. It'll be either R-Type or Wonder Boy III: The Dragon's Trap next.

I wonder why third party publishers don't have their games on the VC... is it because they don't want to or Sega doesn't want them to? I'm thinking its probably not profitable for third party publishers to put their games on the VC or something like that. However with the rate that Sega is burning through their back catalogue, it won't be long until Sega releases on the Genesis and Master System dry up completely.

Well, there's still 3rd party releases coming out on the Genesis/Mega Drive. Earthworm Jim 2 was just released in Japan, so hopefully we'll get that here in the States soon. Now the Master System on the other hand has never seen a single 3rd party release. I'm not really familiar with it's catalog, but I assumed this was because there are very few 3rd party games for the system, being as it was not hugely successful and Nintendo had an iron grip on 3rd parties back then..

Maybe, with either Wonder Boy III: The Dragon's Trap or Alex The Kidd In Shinobi World. But a 10? No.

Actually, I think many SMS fans argue that Wonder Boy 3 deserves a perfect 10. Although, it might not as we already have Dragon's Curse.

Alex Kidd is unlikely to get a 10. Many think it's too easy and too short.
Also, it's Alex Kidd, NOT Alex The Kid.

Hmm... There's definitely more there than I expected. But I didn't see many games from 3rd parties that support VC(capcom, konami, hudson, interplay, etc.) or are still in business... I suppose some of those games could be released on VC though. Whether they ever will be though is a different matter.

Could Master System Ys be a potential 9 star game if it got released? It was developed and published by Sega for the Master System so its quite possible given the current situation that it could be released.

Oh. My. God. The Ottifants have an SMS game!!!!

On a more serious note Montezuma's Revenge appears to have better graphics than the 8-bit computer versions, though I think I'd still prefer the C64 version of that due to nostalgia; ditto for Prince of Persia.

I'm quite surprised at the number of arcade games and the number of games that I normally associate with the Genesis/Mega Drive which had entries on SMS -- it really was an invisible system wasn't it?

To be honest, I did not know the Master System existed back in the Genesis days. I eventually heard about the Master System in the 32/64 bit era, but even then I did not play a Master System game until I played some Master System games on the VC.
It's a great system, but it was ignored in North America due to Nintendo's aggressive and corrupt policy of developers only developing games on either the NES or Master System.

Ys on the Master System was a bit on the short side. That fact alone might keep it from a 9. Still a great game and as Turbo Genesis 64 said, some of these games back in the day were amazing, Phantasy Star included.

Plain old gamer :)

If the VC had Atari 2600 games, I doubt they would be getting any 9s or 10s either. Personally, I think you would have to be pretty cold NOT to give "the greatest party game of all-time," Warlords, a 10!

Well, Nintendo of America really was a headache for Sega, Atari, and NEC.
