I apologize if this has been discussed a billion times but I'm new to the board, so...

Is wiiconnect24 okay to use? I had a friend of mine whose Wii was completely busted due to using this service.

I kind of just want to turn it on and import characters into Wii Sports Resort and then shut it off. But I'm afraid to even do that! my friend really scared me about this service, saying it's buggy and causes system crashes on the hardware.

Anybody got any advice for me?

I've had wiiconnect24 on for about 6 months straight now and nothing bad has happened to my wii. I'd say that your friends wii is just faulty and that it doesn't reflect the quality of the service on other peoples wii's.

That seems like a rare occurrence. I've been using WC24 since I've had my Wii. No problems. It's not buggy at all. I dunno what he's talking about...

Never had a problem with it. Apparently people who've chipped or softmodded their Wiis have had problems depending on what they've done because some games don't take kindly to it, but if you've got a vanilla system or your only change is installing the Homebrew Channel you shouldn't have any problems.

Thanks so much, guys.

Are you talking about leaving it on standby mode? It heats up the wii.

P.S. Welcome to NL.

No, I was just talking about turning it on at all. I guess my friend had it on and left his Wii on for hours or days at a time and thus had trouble. He had to send his Wii back to Nintendo for repair. I could not imagine not having my Wii for a few weeks, especially now.

p.s. thanks!

I have had my Wii since 2006 and have had WiiConnect24 on pretty much 24/7 with my Wii on standby and fairly regular (mostly weekly, sometimes daily) use. Excluding the very, very occasional freeze (maybe 3 times over 3 years and all solved by a reset) I haven't had a single problem with it whatsoever.
