2009 has been a great year for Wii gamers with the release of many high quality 3rd-party Wii titles. Sadly some real gems have fallen by the way-side going unnoticed by many gamers. So I decided to select 5 titles which I think deserve more recognition!

NB: I've tried my best to stay away from the usual "well known" neglected games e.g. A boy and his blob, Little King Story as these are already well know to "core" gamers.

1. Spectrobes: Origins
One genre the Wii lacks is RPG's this action-rpg, is fun, has a decent campaign, has a lush, rich world for you to explore and a myriad of interesting characters for you to interact with. The combat system is polished made deep by the number of Spectrobes and weapons at your disposal. If you like pokemon, anime or are looking for an interesting new RPG pick this up!

2. Grand Slam Tennis
Many people expected 1:1 motion control for this title and while it didn't fully live up to everyone's expectations in this respect it is still an awesome game, motion+ is used superbly and once u get past the "steep-ish" learning curve the game really comes into its own, couple this with pleasing graphics and excellent friend-code free online and your on to a winner!

3. Shaun White Snowboarding: World Tour
This game released quietly without any hype and was dismissed as being too similar to its predecessor. In my opinion this game far surpasses Road Trip, adding more of a challenge, improved graphics, customisation and online leaderboards. This title also uses motion+ to allow you to create your own tricks. If you liked the original or just fancy a good sports title then you cant go wrong with this.

4. Need For Speed: Nitro
Another genre that's lacking on the Wii are racing titles. NFS Nitro is in my opinion the next best racing game after Mario Kart Wii and is a game you can play with your HD owning mates and not feel embarrassed. Boasting a great sense of style, kicking soundtrack, excellently implemented motion controls, 60fps lag free racing and deep customisation this is one racing game you don't want to pass up!

5.Fifa 10
This title came under fire for being "too different" to previous entries in the series, many complained about the "cartoony graphics" and lack of game modes. But this game more than makes up for these minor complaints by being a fun and surprisingly deep ARCADE FOOTBALL title (leave the simulation to PES), with in my opinion great visuals (compared to PES) and a good online mode with an active community. If you like football and fancy some good, clean fun this is the game for you!

Hope this list helps!

Have you played Excitebots?

Unfortunately not, I'm a UK Wii owner (so this article is looking at things from a UK point of view). Hope we get it someday tho. Plus are players who are more used to playing Gran Turismo, Burnout etc gona be enthusiastic about playing a game with transforming robot bugs and clowns as awesome as that is? Notice I also said "and is a game you can play with your HD owning mates and not feel embarrassed."

@Dru192 A ha, I didn't see you were from the UK. My apologies. And I wouldn't feel embarrassed at all to play Excitebots with my friend who owns a 360; I think he'd like it a lot. I do agree it looks a little silly at first glance, though.

No worries, yeah from the videos I've seen it looks crazy but the good kind of crazy lol

Dawn of Discrovery!!!! Definitly a hidden gem in the vast library of wii games. Some might accidently push it off as shovelware do to the cheesy box art and lower price, but seriously it is a great game. If you dont believe me look up some reviews.

Dead Space Extraction. Don't know if it was released in the UK but this game is well worth the money, and I wish people would stop buying carnival games and buy this so we would have more game of this quality being made.

Not played it cos horror titles aren't really my bag, but it looks like a really polished title as you said, definitely agree we need more high-polished titles like this!

Lolz lookin for less known gems, I think Muramasa is "well know" by core Wii gamers just like A Boy and His Blob and Little King Story.

LEGEND_MARIOID

They'll be quite a few unsung heroes for the Wii I'd imagine.

Cursed Mountain. Seriously, this game is amazing. Really good survival horror game with a great atmosphere. I'm pretty sure you can find it for under 20 now, so do yourself a favor and pick this one up.

Also, no offense Dru, but the 5 games you listed are more mainstream and therefore more well known to core gamers than Muramasa and A Boy and his Blob. I mean, are you looking for little known games or games that are better than the reviews they received? Because the ones you listed are well known, they just didn't sell as well as they could have or didn't receive good reviews.

I vote Rhythm Heaven (don't know if that counts). it's a great rhythm game, just like the misunderstood Elite Beat Agents.

go to www.virtualhamgames.com for great original independent games, a help service, and reviews for our games.

Seconding Dawn of Discovery. That game beats any Sims game on Wii.

No offence taken, I can see where you're coming from too. I'm just trying to highlight games that are good "gamer" games that may have been overlooked for one reason or another. Most gamers are already familiar with aBahB, Muramasa, Little King Story etc. But even thought titles like FIFA10 are "mainstream" they mat have passed gamers on this forum by due to the response they received on release. You're point is valid though, there is a lot of grey area in this topic, thanx for the Cursed Mountain recommendation 2, not my cup of tea but deffo deserves more love.

I "suppose" I love Rhythm Paradise (UK name) as well, one of my fave DS titles.
