Used to have the standard sensor bar.... but the cord got sucked up in the vacuum. So I replaced it with the Nyko wireless sensor bar. It works okay but the range isn't quite as far as I would like. Just wondering which sensor bar is generally considered the best??
It helps to understand what the "sensor bar" actually does, as its name is highly misleading. It doesn't sense anything; it just contains infrared LEDs on either end, which the Wii remote "sees" with its internal camera (in the black part of the tip) and uses to position itself with regards to the TV. If you take a picture of the sensor bar (with the system powered on) using certain cameras or webcams which will often pick up infrared light, you'll see the little dots near either end, which are all that the sensor bar contains; it's just a rod with some LEDs that uses the Wii as a power source, nothing more.
I wish Nintendo would be more direct concerning its function, as I've seen improper setups due to confusion. My sister and her husband had their sensor bar sitting on the black reflective surface of the little platform under their HD TV. That would have been fine, except for the LEDs reflecting off that shiny surface, confusing the Wii remote and causing the cursor to jitter at all times. They were completely unaware of the issue (and just thought the jittering was normal) until I place the sensor bar in a better location.
Twitter is a good place to throw your nonsense. Wii FC: 8378 9716 1696 8633 || "How can mushrooms give you extra life? Get the green ones." -
I saw Game selling a wireless rechargeable sensor bar. I cannot for the life of me see what advantage this gives to anybody. I mean, even if for some bizzare reason your TV is set up in the other side of the room to the console itself, then your Scart/Component Cables aren't going to reach anyway. Then again, I've never been sure why the normal sensor bar comes with such a spectacular amount of wire either.
