Dear people,
I am trying to buy a wii somewhere online but I want it to be in a good condition. So my question is if someone can recommend me a website where they sell wii's in good condition (I would prefer a Dutch website since this is where I live but other website are also ok)?
@Tijser001 Hi, there. I'm American, but I actually live in the Netherlands. I also know Gameshop Twente, and it's okay, but without a shadow of a doubt, I can say that the very best Nintendo-related store for refurbished consoles is Mario-Wii.
It's actually a chain of stores, and they have separate web shops for all Nintendo consoles and handhelds, and far as I know, they have the biggest collection of consoles and games of all Dutch web shops. All of their consoles, games and controllers are in very good condition, and they have VERY good service, in case you need to send something back, which by the way has only happened to me once in 10 years.
@ThanosReXXX Thanks for the tip, I think I will order at MarioWii. Another question, do you know if you can play wii u games on the original wii via some kind of software or not?
@1UP_MARIO daar heb ik inderdaad ook gekeken, alleen als je het laat opsturen heb je geen idee hoe de wii eruit ziet en of de wii uberhaupt werkt, en dat risico loop ik liever niet
@Tijser001 No, that's not possible. The Wii is an SD console, the Wii U an HD console. The hardware is completely different and MUCH more powerful, like 10 times or something, and the Wii's drive also can't read Wii U discs, so if you want to play Wii U games as well as Wii games, you're better off getting a second-hand Wii U. These can also be bought from that same site.
On a side note: I would ab-so-lute-ly advise against eBay vs reputable web stores. Prices might vary, and you might indeed be able to get something for cheap, but the warranty on things is absolutely lousy, and you could always end up with a cat in the bag.
P.S.
@Tasuki is right: posting in your own language is not allowed. I speak fluent Dutch, so I could have done that as well, but I was already aware of that rule, so I stick to English. You and that other user are new, so you get a pass for now, but I am kind of surprised to see @1UP_MARIO apparently not being aware of that rule...
On a related side note: I am this website's resident Wii softmod specialist, so once you have the Wii and want to know how to transform it into a magical multi-console box, send me a message.
@ThanosReXXX Thanks for your advice and for noting that only English is allowed, from now on I will speak English! I think I will order the wii on monday so when I have it at home I will let you know if I need any help with the modding.
I have another question though, if I want to softmod my wii what things to I need to buy extra? What I want is to install homebrew and then GXloader for my usb stick. Then I want to download my games via vimm.net onto my usb stick and put that in the wii.
Is it correct that I then need a usb stick and a sd card (only 2GB)?
@Tijser001 Don't use a USB stick: get an external hard drive instead. USB drives don't last as long, so at some point, they WILL fail you. If you want to keep your games safe and loading quickly, go for an actual hard drive.
Also, don't use GXLoader, go with Configurable USB Loader instead: it's FAR more user-friendly, and is more compatible with programs such as Nintendont, the GameCube game loader.
As for where to get games, I can't point those out to you, because that's also against the rules: we can talk about emulation and modding of consoles that are not current gen, but other than that, it's forbidden and gets people banned. I'd look for torrents, if I were you, that's all I can say.
On a side note: you DO know that all games on Vimm are US (as in: NTSC versions) of the games, right? So, if you want to play some games with Dutch subs or menus, then you're not in the right place there. And besides that, some games were only available in certain regions, so there are some exclusives that are either only available in PAL or NTSC regions.
@ThanosReXXX Thanks for the info again, yes I do know that the games on vimm are all in English but that’s fine with me since my studie etc is also completely in English. What size hdd do you recommend? I saw most Wii games only use like +- 500 mb so a HDD of 100GB is enough I think?
Btw can you help me in private once I have my Wii with softmodding via discord or something like that?
@Tijser001 It's not so much that they're in English, it's because it's all American versions, so non-European. Any original games you own or buy, will all be PAL-European, and all games on Vimm's Lair are NTSC-USA.
As for how much Wii games use, I've no idea where you got that info from, but the drive on Bol.com that I linked to earlier, is the exact one I use, so I'd advise you to get that one. Sizes of games vary wildly, but depending on if you want to stick with Wii games alone, or also want to add other stuff like GameCube or older consoles, like I have, then that hard drive will fill up before you know it, so don't take one that has too little storage space. And besides: the 1 TB drive is actually cheaper than the 500 GB one...
To add to the game sizes topic: although most Wii games come on normal DVD's, they don't always take up the entire space that's available. There's VERY simple Wii remote waggle games that are only between 500 and 800 MB, but most regular games can be anywhere between 1 GB and the full 4.37 GB. There's even a couple of games that come on dual layer DVD's, so these can be ranging from 6 to the full 8.7 GB.
As for helping out, I would invite you to make an account on Dutch Nintendo site n1ntendo.nl, I'm also a member there, and we can private message and we can continue in Dutch.
@1UP_MARIO Wait, what? You translated your text to Dutch? How did you know that it was correct, then?
@1UP_MARIO But how could you tell? Do you speak any Dutch at all, or do you have Dutch sources/friends who could point out the grammar side of things? Even in English, I've personally found Google Translate to not always be the best option, seeing as it often doesn't correctly implement grammar, or the order of a sentence, instead translating it verbatim.
