When shopping for Wii games pre-Christmas, and again in the Jan sales, I was tremendously disappointed by the complete lack of titles available on UK shelves - no matter which shops we tried (from specialist game shops, to large department stores, shopping centres and supermarkets) the selection of games was dire. As a retro gamer (fancy way of saying old!), I remember the days when the shops (even in small town centres) were chock-full of the complete range of available games. Heck, my first console, a NES packaged with R.O.B. (ah, the good old days! ), was purchased from my local Boots, and any game you could think of was also available to buy there! Which leads me to ask (Internet shops aside): where the heck have all the games gone?
At least they went to a better place, to be cared for by their lord and master Miyamoto for all eternity.

There can only be one, like in that foreign movie where there could only be one, and in the end there is only one dude left, because that was the point.
You think this year's bad? Next year all the games will be shovelware, as hardcore titles just don't sell enough on Wii anymore to make it worthwhile for the publishers.

'Hardcore' titles don't shift full stop, regardless of console.
More to the point since when was it compulsory that 'hardcore' games are strictly non-mainstream game. Football management games have a huge level of depth and obsessive level of detail, tetris with it's never ending gameplay is pretty hardcore, the time trials and 150cc skill level of Marikart ore pretty nails...I could go on.
In the NES days, developers didn't have the option of paying to stock store shelves or just put their game online.
Of course all games were in stores, where else would they be? lol
Now games like Little King's Story are only put on store shelves to see if the box art will sell. If it doesn't (and believe me it didn't), the publisher doesn't have the funds to keep shipping it out, so they just make it available online.
Win win for everyone. Publisher and developer make more money, and people (as long as they're with the times and have internet and a credit card) can still buy any game they want, often much cheaper than they would in stores.

Wii is 80% shovelware unfortunately so the good games end up being snapped up and sometimes only available on ebay.
lol no
I don't think someone understands how things work...
Games that are 'snapped up' prove they can sell in stores, so publishers ship more out. That's why Mario Galaxy and Smash Brawl Bros. are still being shipped everywhere. It's the games that don't get 'snapped up' that get thrown in the bargain bin and never see the light of day again.
And quality has nothing to do with the thread. I could bring up the schedule I use to walk my dog and it'd be just as relevant. lol
I have noticed a lack of Wii games (even shovelware) at most of the GameStops that I've gone. Recently I found a used copy of Geometry Wars: Galaxies for the Wii that I wanted to buy but when the clerk went to get the disk he said the store didn't have it (he probably borrowed the gamed and lost it). D:
Ultimately it's the the stores loss. By limiting their Wii shelving they're effectively saying to the largest chunk of the current-gen crowd 'you don't matter' and lose those customers, 'casuals' and 'hardcores' alike.
I was pretty disappointed to go into GAME stores and find them stripped bare for the most part. I had to go to three of them in city centre just to find a place selling Rabbids Go Home so I could cash in my store credit (finally it was marked down to £24.99) and then I had to have the display box.
On the plus side this means less crap clogging the shelves (this is the chain that doesn't stock Muramasa in stores -- retarded).
I think I do understand Alex but also accept your point.
Try getting castlevania judgement, marumasa, snk classics, metal slug anthology, Narutu 2 in a game or HMV store. Next to impossible unless in the used bin.
Naturally there will always be copies of zelda and mario games of course.

"Huh?
Stores just fill stuff with things they can sell.
If games aren't selling, not carrying them isn't any kind of loss, they just fill the shelf with something people like.
Most stores carry the games online anyway, without wasting the space. They doubly win."
I hear what you're saying, Alex, and, for the most part, your points are valid. However, if, as you say, stores only fill the shelves with the games people like, then where are those games? Why aren't the shelves jam-packed with all the top-selling titles? NSMB Wii and Wii Fit Plus aside, I don't see them anywhere. Worse still, in some of the specialist game stores, you're lucky to find a title that's BNIB (let alone worth buying), half the time they're second-hand!
While I'm a big fan of internet shopping, I know plenty who aren't (and I'm sure that extends to many others, also), and, I must confess, at times, I do miss the days when you could just hop on your BMX and head for the shops, pockets stuffed with hard-earned coins, ready to spill on the counter in exchange for a game you'd saved up for (for what seemed like an eternity), and leave the shop with that game in your hand ...and a beaming smile on your face.
Machu haz bought all the games, they belong to me, soz.
Don't know what the problem is here, but then I guess it's entirely dependent upon where you live. I live in a stoopid little town, but between Game, Gamestation and HMV, I can usually find what I want. You do have to wade through a bunch of crap to find it though. :/
@outrun2sp, you can pre-order Tatsunoko Vs Capcom from shopto.net for about £22 (including free next day delivery) and will usually be in your post box either a day before release or on the Friday morning. Thats if you don't mind shopping online.
