Nintendo know that not everyone has a selection of SD cards and adequately fast broadband, and thus, I don't think they'll be planning to alienate them in this way.

Disagree.. not everyone has an internet connection so does Nintendo alienate for their entire VC/wiiware collection? Not everyone has bought a classic controller or a gamecube controller, not everyone has bought a Balance Board, and not everyone has bought WM+. SD Cards with high capacity are another accessory. No problem to make games for those that did.

So ends a saga older than time itself.

I think being able to play DVDs or CDs is a hardware issue, there's no reason why it wouldn't have been enabled from the start if the console had the capability?

Out of interest, does anyone have a link to a change log of past Wii updates?

Nope, there's firmware made by pirates that can play them, no added hardware necessary, just the software.

Apparently playing DVDs causes the laser to burn out faster or some such, hence why Nintendo haven't released DVD-playing capabilities.

Yeah so I know nothing about this, just going on hear say.

It would also be nice if previous IOS versions were updated to allow old games to use high-capacity SD cards for stuff like photos in Animal Crossing, or music playlists in Excite Truck. But that seems to be against Nintendo's policy since it would require a ton of testing to ensure backwards compatibility.

I'm pretty sure I've read before that games that do read-write to SD do so from game code rather than the IOS so that kind of change isn't possible; you'd need to be able to patch the game code itself. This is the reason I think my dream of having save data read-write to SD is a pipe dream.

More Mii options would be all for me. Seriously, not one update. The damn Xbox Avatars get new things with every game.

And loading/saving game saves directly to the SD card.

The best strategy in the game: go up stairs and pause balls.

Oh, that's a shame. It's really inconvenient to have some games use my SDHC card but other games not work with it. Maybe I should just buy a standard 2 GB SD card and use that for everything. If some photos have to be left off the card, that won't be a big deal.

Seriously.....I wish Nintendo would do a Firm Ware PQ update for their NES VC games. Reason being is because the colors are dark, dull and not as bright as they should be...It's a letdown if you ask me. Talk about poor color emulation

Things I'd Like:
1) Play games directly from SD card (I don't have this issue yet, but I probably will someday)
2) Concurrent streamlined shop channel update streamlining Nintendo Channel videos, demos, and games for purchase
3) Ability to have games download in the background (good idea Avatar)
4) Netflix channel addition.

Things we'll probably get:
1) A bunch of bricked modded Wiis. Hopefully there won't be any bugs that brick clean ones too, like the last one had.

I am way too lazy to think of something clever.

I'd like the update to make the Miis more like the XBOX 360 Avatars.

Yeah, a 2GB card is probably good enough unless you're a fiend for downloads or have Rock Band 3 or some other game that supports SDHC. I'm on my 6th or 7th page of VC/WiiWare on my Japanese machine which has a 2GB card and still has bags of space. I have more WiiWare on my PAL Wii so the 4GB card seems more appropriate.

I'd like to use a jpeg for the menu background like you can with the photo channel, at least give us some different themes if not.

On the SD Card menu I really dislike how when you click on a Wii Ware game you get a tiny screen with the game displayed, unlike what you get on the Wii Menu which is a fully animated logo screen. I'd like that changed.

I also want a Wii-Speak update which increases the length of messages to a minute.

While we are talking updates, anyone else noticed the minor changes to the iPlayer? It has beeps and rumbles now, plus you can use the d-pad to scroll which you couldn't before. Me like!

I haven't updated my wii for a looonnggg time. Have there been any big updates lately?

Anyway I'd like more mii options.

Moving saved data to a new system is a pain, I had to load up each of my games before i could move over the data, and even then i couldn't move SSBB or TvC. I'd like that fixed but then again i don't think i'll move to a new system again.

4.2 allows you to launch games from SD (it is a copy to system flash in the background, but at least you can keep games on SD and you get a nice channel menu), so that's a nice one.

I agree Machu, I'd like the full-motion channel and the full preview music/graphic when you click it rather than the half second before game launch in the SD menu.

Bleh. I greatly prefer the cartoon style of Mii's. Avatars I find really unappealing. We have Sega & Sonic All Stars Racing for the 360 and you can play as your avatar, but it's so ugly. I'd love to be able to play as my Mii on the Wii version though. Rather wish we'd gotten it for the Wii, but oh well.

So, yes to more options for Mii's, but keep the same cartoon style. Oh, and no way in hell should there ever be stuff for Mii's that you have to pay for. That's another 360 Avatar thing I can definitely do without.

As for what I'd like to see in the next update:

  • run games directly from SD
  • DLC run/loaded directly from SD
  • Ability to transfer a license to another Wii, even if you don't have or can't use the Wii your VC, WiiWare and DLC is on. It would disable the content on the original Wii, and enable it on the new one.
  • Disable region locking from all games and content
  • Make a worldwide WiiWare/VC store that is free of region locking.
  • Support USB hard drives/flash drives in addition to SD cards, and with all the above noted features.
  • Eliminate per-game friend codes and have a single friend code that works for all games and doesn't have to be entered more then once. It's fine if this only works with games from now on, but it needs to be done.
  • Support longer store redemption codes so we get free content from contests that currently is restricted to the 360 and PS3, due to there not being enough unique codes available on the Wii (at least I presume that's the issue.) Sure I benefited from the Pepsi Rock Band contest where I got a boatload of Nintendo points good for anything instead of just for specific RB songs as was the case on the 360 and PS3, but I know they'll never do that again - next time the Pepsi Rock Band contest or similar will simply not include the Wii. We'll be left out in the cold.
  • support patching of disc-based games via downloadable patches stored on SD or USB drive.
  • free downloadable demos of all WiiWare and VC games, like the 360's Xbox Live Arcade/Indie store.
  • ability to play DSiWare you have purchased on the Wii (think Gameboy Player).

But don't get me wrong, I do love the Wii. It does need improvements, though.

I'm pretty sure you can play as the Mii.. EDIT: oh ok, I see what you mean now. Yeah, get it on the Wii, Wii is better

They should just skip ahead to Wii Update 5.0. 4.3 will most likely be useless.

But I'm not trying to be a troll here. Here is what I would love to see:

  • DVD Player. Seriously, I have absolutely no way to use my DVD's. They are left out in the cold unused. Giving Wii owners the option would possibly bring me back to watching movies on a more regular bases.

Don't be silly! The Avatar's have just as much cartoonish flair as the Miis! But they have interchangeable costumes, and much more appealing features.

Sean_Aaron

Yeah, do away with region locking (I'd still keep my Wiis due to the downloads though), I really don't see the point of that beyond reassuring 3rd parties. If people want to import they will do so; not like it's going to impact sales that much really.
