Yoshi's Story (4/10) - I enjoyed this one for a little while when I first downloaded it but don't really play it anymore. I find some of the levels to be too long that they get boring. However, its not as easy as people say. There are some levels which can cause an instant death that annoy me.
My Score: 5/10

Kirby 64 (5/10) - I enjoyed this one too when I first downloaded it but don't bother with it anymore. It was good at first for a 2D platformer on the N64 but the later levels bored me.
My Score: 6/10

Kirby's Dreamland 3 (6/10) - This just didn't feel how a Kirby game should feel. Even Kirby 64 is better than this in my opinion. I wanted to like it but even for what it is, I found it too slow and dull.
My Score: 4/10

Wario's Woods (6/10) - I enjoyed the SNES game and hadn't played the NES version until I downloaded it on the Virtual Console. It felt different at first because of the less buttons but I got used to it. Annoying you can't pick up the crystal though like you could in the SNES game. I do enjoy fighting the bosses by actually hitting them with lines of bombs which wasn't present in the SNES version. An okay game but one I don't play anymore. I'll still download the SNES version when it comes out though.
My Score: 5/10

The King of Fighters '95 (6/10) - My first entry in the King of Fighters series back in the mid nineties. I still quite enjoy it today. Okay, so its not too much different to KoF94 but it definitely feels more polished than the first game. I used to play it often but haven't done for a while so I'll have to play it again sometime. I can never beat the bosses in these KoF games though since they're too hard even on the easiest setting and there are limited continues. I do enjoy just taking my favorite character (Heidern) through the game until I reach Rugal.
My Score: 7/10

Edgey, Gumshoe, Godot, Sissel, Larry, then Mia, Franziska, Maggie, Kay and Lynne.

I'm throwing my money at the screen but nothing happens!

Donkey Kong - Rated 4/10, yes I agree. Horrid game that only provided some mild amusement

Ice Climbers - Rated 5/10, disagree, it deserved less, horrible game it was

Alex Kidd in Miracle World - Rared 7/10, Agree, it has its strong points but it's flaws can make it hard to enjoy

Ghosts 'n' Goblins - Rated 7/10, Agree, it's fun, but its difficulty makes it very un approachable to most

Zelda II: The Adventures of Link - Rated 7/10, agree, it's fun, but flawed and unfairly challenging

With that said, I've played anough games via compilations and other means to know I disagree with Nintendo Life's VC reviews a lot. 6/10 for Final Fight 2? 7/10 for Vector Man? 7/10 for Super Dodgeball?! Really, I just don't pay their reviews much mind anymore.

Wolf of the Battlefield: Commando
NL Score 4/10
My Score 4/10...as I reviewed it. So yeah, I totally agree with that handsome reviewer!

Son Son
NL Score 6/10
My Score 6/10...same reason.

Mega Man 4
NL Score 7/10
My Score 9/10...great game

Princess Tomato in the Salad Kingdom
NL Score 7/10
My Score 7/10...just right

Mega Man 7/10
NL Score 7/10
My Score 6/10...good game, but it's aged poorly compared to its next three sequels

EDIT: Also, it may seem like I don't have many VC games...but I have loads! I guess it just so happens that most of them are rated very high by NL.

Wait a minute. Other than Yoshi's Story, you haven't downloaded anything for which NL gave less than an 8/10?

Ash: Professor Oak, how's your Bulbasaur?
Prof. Oak: Oh, it only hurts when I sit.
...
Prof. Oak: It's only Chansey if Krabby won't let go. Bye, now.
Ash: I don't think I'm going to call him anymore.

I'm new to Virtual Console and have 13 titles so far. Only 2 were rated less than 8 by NL.

NES Open Tourney Golf (7): I like the graphics that are retro but not quite ancient (to my eye). I like that it has some stat tracking. I feel the forward swing is too fast. I wish there was a weaker sand wedge, and judging putting distance involves a lot of trial and error- not sure if that's bad or not. I want to give this a 6 for gameplay but an 8 for presentation and charm. So 7 it is. But it may become my first 500 point learning lesson if I can talk myself in to another VC golf game. [ah heck, I oughtta grab Neo Turf Masters already... that one looks darn snazzy and I get my groove on in Metal Slug]

Adventures of Lolo (7): Varied and sometimes tough levels. I am newly-revisiting NES games, so I'm not sure if there is a better term, but this definitely has "second generation" level NES graphics with plenty of detail and animations where useful, though not matching Hal's later artistry with Kirby. Loses some points for a bit of guess work about mechanics. Gains 'em back because I consider that part of the puzzles themselves. 8

Only one I can think of is Evasive Space...pretty sure NL gave it a 5. I'd give it a 0.5. Game was atrocious.

King's Knight- NL gave it a 3. I'd give it a 1. It's simply atrocious. One of the worst games I've ever played, and the fact that it was published by Square raises several questions.

Blaster Master- NL gave it a 9. I'd give it a 5. For me, it was unplayable. The graphics were nice, and the concept was cool, but I couldn't help but hate it. The platforming sections were really frustrating, the down-gradable weapons pissed me off (probably the one and only thing I didn't like much about another game, Cave Story), and the boss fights felt cheap and unfair. The only reason I can even imagine why it received such a high score here is because of its nostalgia factor. Throw that out (as in my case), and you get one lame duck that aged pretty badly.

Adventures of Lolo- NL gave it a 7. I'd give it a 9. I actually liked this game. The puzzles were clever, and reminded me of the 2D puzzles in 2D Zelda games. Plus the graphics made it such a polished game. It's not perfect, but I don't think any NES game really was. Well, aside from Mega Man 2, imo.

River City Ransom- NL gave it an 8 (I believe). I'd give it a 6. I'm not much of a fighting game fan I suppose, but this game felt too repetitive. It had its moments, but the action felt incredibly stale, and I couldn't figure what to do or where to go.

Bonk 3- NL gave this game an 8. I would say about a 5. This game is okay, but they really throw too much into it. It's like they had a meeting and brainstormed ideas, but then they used them all. It's makes the game too chaotic.

Battle Load Runner- NL gave this game a 6. I would say more like an 8. Once I start playing I just can't stop. I really love the platformer/puzzler combo. I like it so much, I'm tempted to download Load Runner (nes).

Earthworm Jim - NL gave this game an 8. I loved this game on the genesis and the GBA... but maybe I just have played it too much to like it like I used to. I would give it a 6.

Super Dodge Ball - NL gave this game a 7. I have loved this game since the first time I played it 20 years ago. This one is an 8 all the way. 9 if you play two player.

The rest of my games I agree with Nintendo Life.

Space Invaders- come on, it's an arcade classic. 9/10
Cruis'n USA- it's bad, but not 3/10 bad. Should be 6/10
Sonic Spinball- are you serious?! The game's a classic!
Donkey Kong 3- I'd give it 7/10
Sonic Chaos- again, it should be 7/10
Kirby 64- it should be given 8/10, idiots!
Dig Dug- should be 8/10, it's an arcade classic
Kirby's Dream Land 3- I give it 7/10 because it's Kirby!
Mario Bros.- 6/10, seriously? It should be 9/10
Pac Man- I give it 9/10 if only for the lack of a joystick and no score saving
Yoshi's Story- it's actually fun once you figure out its real purpose. 9/10
Donkey Kong- ok, I agree here. The game is fun the first time around, then it gets boring.

The three Master System Sonic's...they are all compared to the Mega Drive games.

The first game I agree with but 2 deserves an 8 for challenge...it is not as hard as people say and providing gamers are hardcore, this is the ultimate bite sized challenging platformer.

Chaos is bad, but not 4/10 bad, the bosses can be challenging as well...but the real challenge is the emeralds.

Why us Columns given a 6? It's only second best to Tetris! An 8 would be more suitable.

I'd also say OOT from the Legend of Zelda...but that's my personal opinion...it has aged horribly and playing through the game in its entirety would become tiresome. A 7/10 for me.

Its not as good as the original by any means.

Of course I have, here are a few examples.

Mega Man 4
TMNT
Mega Man
Double Dragon
Booger Man

Honestly though I don't go by NL's scores when it comes to Virtual Console games, I've already experienced most of the classics, the obscure and the bad in my gaming days. So most of my downloads are out of pure nostalgia and my love for each game weather it's good or bad or if it's a classic I've missed out on.

But with the exception of DoReMi Fantasy. I went by NL's score which was a 9/10 which I completely disagree with. IGN's '7.0 or 7.5" definitly seems more in tune. But I'm also considering jumping into the Bonk series based on NL's overall solid to great reviews, but at the same time I'm just not so sure.

Then you're supposed to list them, not the games that got good scores.

The topic specifically says to list the 5 games you downloaded that got the worst scores by NL. That is purely fact. There is no opinion with that part. After that, you give an opinion on whether or not you agree with the bad scores.

Some of you are getting confused and listing the games you have the biggest difference of opinion with concerning NL's reviews.

Are VC reviews really necessary? All these games have at one time been reviewed before. Unless we're trying to determine how these games stack up against the games of today.

Altered Beast (Arcade)
NL Score 3/10 - I guess this game hasn't aged well. I'm okay with that--not sure how Mario 64 got a 10/10?! Whatever.

Ninja Gaiden (Arcade)
NL Score 6/10 - This was more than a 6 when it was new. Some people even wanted the NES version to be more like it.

Golden Axe (Arcade)
NL Score 7/10 - This is a generous NL Score but I think it should have been higher than the MD version.

Super Mario Lost Levels
NL Score 8/10 - Awful game--even compared to the original. Looks like it's more fun if you play it with your Ninty glasses on.

Phantasy Star IV
NL Score 9/10 - It might have been the best RPG on the MD but I have to say it's not a 9 anymore.

I can't see a high or low VC score making much difference to people anyway. I imagine most who download VC games have probably played them before. Why else would anyone want outdated games?
