Topic: Want to Sell the White Wii to pay for the Black Wii?

Oh My I can't believe it. I just bought my own Wii (been using the family one) to play Monster Hunter Tri because I didn't think the Black one was coming! Argh. Its like Nintendo is teasing all the Monster Hunter Manly Men who would've bought a MH Wii bundle (like in Japan) but decided to bite the bullet and get what was available. Funny thing is I partially bought it cause GameStop was having a special sale where they included Wii Spots resort for free. I thought it was a limited time DEAL!

Well, I've only put five bucks into the shop channel so I figure I can still sell it (or return it???) and at least I won't lose much financially . . . still a hassle though. Haven't spent the five bucks yet, I guess I could blow it on some game that I only want to play a couple of times. Is there a way to wipe the Wii clean or should I just not spend the five bucks and use it as a selling point!?! Anyone got any tips on selling your Wii and transferring your information (especially my Monster Hunter game save)?

I'm surprised that the Black Wii is such a draw if you already have one. As for the five bucks, you might as well spend it as it won't increase the value much untouched.

Transferring info can only be done by Nintendo themselves, but they wouldn't do it for the goals you're aiming for.

most of your save information should be transferable... idk about MH3 in particular, though, and i've heard a few games (like SSBB) won't let you transfer some stuff over to a different system. all you need to do is copy all your game saves from the old Wii to your SD card, then when you get the new Wii, play your games first and then copy over the new save files on your Wii with the old ones from the SD card.

Any game with online data cannot have the save transferred, so that would mean no.

Also, you can't put $5 on the VC. The lowest denomination is $10.

The color doesn't matter much to me, so no. I am looking at the screen, not what color the system is.

@Adam: You CAN put 500 points on a Wii if you have a MH3 (or upcoming, Sin & Punishment 2) preorder bonus points card. I expect that's where it came from for him.

My white Wii looks kind of out of place in my room with the PS3 and Xbox 360 Elite, but I've spent over $300 on downloads for that thing, so there's no WAY I'm doing the lateral upgrade thing. It doesn't bug enough to pay the difference if I DIDN'T have downloads, actually. And the save files are also a HUGE issue...re-do 60+ hours of Brawl stuff? No, thanks!

Yeah the five bucks was from the Monster Hunter Pre-Order Bonus. Didn't know about the lack of transfering save files for online games. That sucks but makes sense.

I know if you've already had a Wii its a no brainer but its difficult for me since I was putting off getting a Wii for so long all because I told myself I would just wait for the Black one to come out. But I got weak when Monster Hunter released. So I've only had the thing for a couple weeks. Also I figure I could sell the Wii+Sports Resort together since the Black one comes with it anyways.

The other thing I was wondering though was the system memory reboot thing option for the Wii and what that does / is it absolutely vital that I do that before selling the Wii?

I prefer the white console. Although I prefer the black wii remote.

I think it's brilliant to now offer the console with the motion plus included for the same price, in both colors.

Just gift the 500 points to a friend. send them a NES game. then have them send you a NES game back when you get your new black Wii.

If I didn't have a huge investment in digital content, then I would trade my old white Wii for a new black one because I like the way the console looks and because the bonuses (Wii Sports Resort/Motion+ controller) definitely add value for me. But since my download can't be easily transferred, I'm not interested in following through.

Seeing as you bought you Wii, with lots of good game that you haven't yet been able to play, you shouldn't trade it in for black but instead try to fill your gap with using the money to get some more games. Because if you traded it in you would still need to pay a fair amount to get the new Wii.

Thank you. Best advice here! I know I know its dumb to want to get a different Wii just because of its color! You don't need to tell me that twice (or a dozen times). I suppose I just feel tricked into getting the white one. I could have gotten the one I've been waiting for if only I had put off buying it for another week and a half! Seriously, the rumors came out that close after I got mine.

Also, I don't plan on trading it in. I got the Wii with Sports Resort so since the Black one comes with it I'm hoping to sell them together on craigslist maybe. I'm sure gamestop wouldn't consider taking it back for a different one.

@Stuffed Good luck with whatever you decide. I think I am going to probably get the black Wii and have two. One for the living room, and one for my mancave for when the wife is watching her shows. I know, I could just move my Wii from room to room, but I am too lazy to do that.
