@adam: Don't blame me! I posted 8 min before he edited in the whole "5000 points" part like the WiiWare thread.
But I guess I can make a list.
Super Mario World (800) Super Metroid (800) Ocarina of Time (1000) Donkey Kong Country (800) Final Fantasy IV (probably will be called II in NA) (800)
If they didn't call FFIV its American SNES name, then that would be confusing with FFIV: The After Years on WiiWare, or if they ever decided to release FFIII(NES). Then they would have to call FFVI by its real name.
Final Fantasy II and Final Fantasy III for the NES were not released outside Japan back then. The first Final Fantasy for the NES was released in America, then Final Fantasy IV was the second game in the series that came to America; hence why they changed the title to SNES Final Fantasy II.
After Final Fantasy VII was released, Square had no choice but to release the other Final Fantasy titles that were antecedently Japan-only, because the true number was there. If I'm not mistaken, Final Fantasy Mystic Quest was the first game of the series to be released worldwide back in the early '90s.
Final Fantasy V was almost gonna be US SNES Final Fantasy III, but it kept getting cancelled, which caused it to become one of the first fantranslated video games ever. Final Fantasy VI then became US SNES Final Fantasy III.
These games I would consider essentials: 1. Super Mario Bros. (Nintendo Entertainment System, 1985, Nintendo) 2. Sonic The Hedgehog (Sega Genesis, 1991, Sega) 3. Super Mario World (Super Nintendo Entertainment System, 1991, Nintendo) 4. Super Mario 64 (Nintendo 64, 1996, Nintendo) 5. Kirby's Adventure (NES, 1993, Nintendo) 6. Bomberman '94 (TurboGrafx-16, 1993, Hudson Soft)
1. Super Mario World (800) 2. The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past (800) 3. Super Metroid (800) 4. Secret of Mana (800) or SimCity (800) 5. Donkey Kong Country (800) 6. Super Mario 64 (1000) or Mario Kart 64 (1000)
Oh, yeah. I forgot about ActRaiser. It's a very good, albeit easy (imo), game. For a game made in 1990 (and released in 1991), it both looks and sounds beautiful. Yuzo Koshiro knows his stuff.
Super Mario World Super Mario RPG: Legend Of The Seven Stars Super Metroid Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past Secret Of Mana Contra III Castlevania: Rondo Of Blood Super Mario 64 Mega Man 2 Mega Man X Sonic The Hedgehog (Both my VC list, and games that I recommend)

That's what I would want, at least.
Lieutenant Commander of the Lesbian Love Brigade
There can only be one, like in that foreign movie where there could only be one, and in the end there is only one dude left, because that was the point.
Paper Mario [1000] Yoshi's Story [1000] Super Smash Bros. [1000] Super Mario 64 [1000] Super Mario World [800] And there are lots of others that I don't have the time to list.
NES Super Mario Bros. 3 (500) TG-16 Ys Book I & II (900) Genesis/Mega Drive Sonic the Hedgehog 3 (800) SNES The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past (800) Super Metroid (500) N64 Super Mario 64 (1000)
That's 4800 points. Couldn't quite make it to 5000.
