like theres the name virtual consle the name virtual boy fits pirfict for a gameboy game download sevice on the DSi shop.
and if you could get games from gameboy/gameboy coler/gameboy advanced i think that would be great and with the SD card you can play them. just imagine playing games like mario pinball or pokemon emerald on your DSi

People have speculated that for a while now. If that move DOES happen, and if there turns out to be good content out there, then I might even chip in for a DSi sooner than expecting. However, don't speculate on the name "Virtual Boy", as people might mix it up with the ill-fated black-and-red-screened attempt at virtual gaming from well over 10 years back. o_O

Oh, I thought this was going to be a thread hoping for Virtual Boy downloads on the DSi VC. Which, by the way, would be fantastic if it were possible. I used to collect stereographs when I was younger, and I've been thinking all this time what a shame it is that no one has decided to use the two DS screens for a stereograph-based game, where you would hold the system like a book and focus the two screens together. That's quite easy if you're used to viewing these things; actually there is a homebrew DS app that lets you draw in 3D by doing exactly what I'm describing and drawing on the touchscreen on the right, using the control pad to change depth. The Virtual Boy games wouldn't really work due to the lack of enough accessible buttons when holding it like that, though.

Anyhow, as for your actual proposal, that's hilarious. If anyone at Nintendo suggests that name, I'm sure a PR rep will promptly smack them on the forehead and explain that the name Virtual Boy is something Nintendo would like to forget, as it was the one console they made that completely failed. Poor Gunpei.

EDIT: for those who don't know what the word stereograph refers to: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stereograph

I still say that the DSi Virtual Console would be "Virtual Handheld." Besides, is not the Sega GameGear appearing there? (A GameGEAR appearing in a Virtual BOY would be odd...)

Will not that name attached to the successful download service erase the pain from the failed system (as is people no longer remebering the system for them now associating the name with the download service)? After all, when you mention "Pokémon Diamond," you think of the DS game, not the bootleg?

every handheld game consle made by nintendo before the DSi had the word boy in it like the following: gameboy/gameboy coler/gameboy advanced so it would make perfict sence to name the service virtual boy becuse all the handhelds before DSi had the word boy at the end.

well i still know that the name virtual boy would bring back shame to nintendo
ovcorse virtual boy was a bad systime.

I have no idea why a "Virtual Handheld" has not been done yet on the DSi.

Going through the list of games already available on the DSi leaves me almost empty-handed of games I would download if I had a DSi. And thats just no good. I plan to buy a DSi when they start a "Virtual Handheld" service for it or if they improve the quality of DSiWare games.

Edgey, Gumshoe, Godot, Sissel, Larry, then Mia, Franziska, Maggie, Kay and Lynne.

I'm throwing my money at the screen but nothing happens!

I think once DSi sales start to slow down, then we'll see the DSi VC.

Nintendo would need to increase SD card support like they did for the Wii because that will use up space fast!

What homebrew is it? I would love to try it.

GBA games are relatively small in size. Most are under 10MB in size.

Some games would. A lot of GBA games are only 8MB's in size, with the biggest ones being (I think) 32MB's.

At first I thought the same as warioswoods. And that's a horrible name, though Nintendo's probably isn't going to be much better.
@Corbie But surely they're monumentally bigger than DSiWare downloads?

Nope. Art Style: CODE is 11MBs in size, and Asphalt 4 is around 30MBs.

Having an Virtual Handheld is an awesome idea. Think about the games being released. I would be hooked onto my DSi.

I would like to see a GBA VC on DSi, but they should make the GBA games, as well as the NES games, transferable between the Wii and DSi. Maybe they should have Virtual Boy games on the VC, and they should make 3D glasses to use for them!
