Topic: VC games vs Compilation

How do you rate VC games and compilations compared to the original games? Any as good as the origional?
When buying these do you prefer to go vc or Compilation? Why?
I'd just like to see some pros and cons of each. I know most compilations are better pricewise, but what about quality?

My preference is VC, which is why I'm bent about there being a real dearth of VCA titles here in NA. Primary reason - if I'm honest - that I prefer VC is that for quick-hit games like arcade titles usually are (for me at least), I'd rather just fire up the SD Menu than swap discs. Second reason is cost for value received - I don't want to pay for games in a compilation which I may not play.

@Vendetta- Well, let's take the Neo Geo games. Right now I could get the collection vol. 1 brand new for $15. There are 16 games in it right? If you found 2 or 3 games that you liked in this compilation Would that still not entice you, knowing that they're $9 apiece on vc?

In theory, absolutely. But I never got into the Neo Geo games, honestly. But sure, if there were a few games I wanted plus a few didn't on a compilation that cost around the same price as the ones I wanted on VC? Sure, I'm not that lazy.

Comps ftw! Reading the big N's EULA scared me when they said that they can revoke your right to the games you buy at any time... Not that I pirate, I just don't like someone having me by the balls.

Compilations are great, but sometimes they have a lot of games you don't want in there. Still I think they're better, because getting 10 games for 20 bucks is always a lot better than 4. I also have this controller, so it makes compilations a lot better.

EDIT: if I had a choice, I would always go with the original, and I almost always do just buy the original off eBay or something. But since this thread is about VC vs. compilations, I don't have a choice, do I

I don't care about whether or not the game is in a comp or download so long as the conversion is good. I'm not fussed about the original hardware provided someone took care to adapt the controls properly -- there's nothing worse than having a good conversion of a game only to be unable to play it as you remember, which is my biggest frustration when trying to play Tempest at home. A trackball is an okay substitute for a spinner, but not a terrific one; I suspect a properly-calibrated twist motion would be the next best thing to a custom-built spinner rig.

I personally like original Hardware because you play the game the way it was meant to be played. As to VC or Compilation, I prefer VC because you can buy the games you like instead of buying some games you like and some games you don't like.

I'd choose VC

Unless the compilation either has a ton of games, some worthy extras &/or great emulation, I ain't buying it.

Metang

VC anyday. But I'll buy compilations if they have tons of games and/or great emulation (EG, Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection)

I just recently picked up the SNK collection vol 1 for 9.99 free shipping on eBay and brand new. Which has 16 games. Samurai Showdown is on there and its 9 dollars on the VC alone. Well for 99 cents more I got 15 games and those other games were 9 bucks a piece on VC. But to be fair I love my VC as I have downloaded 27 VC games and 13 WiiWare games . The thing I like about VC its saved me from having to go out and buy another NES,SNES and N64 !

i love me some wii shop-ing buuuut comps are the best. my most played games are all comps:the king of fighters wii collection, the samurai shodown collection, the metal slug collection, the snk arcade collection, the xbox 360 namco museum (with all the xbla versions of the games with online leaderboard... so sick! so sick!) and that killer sonic's genesis collection also for the 360. each neo geo game costs 9$ on the VC and i paid about 10-20$ per compilation, the savings, oh loooord the savings. i would never have been able to afford all this snk brilliance at 9 dollars a pop on the vc (not to mention they have a gang of games not released the vc). (sorry if this seems like rambling but i really love video game comps, they make me crazy)

I sold Sonic Mega Collection and downloaded Sonic the Hedgehog (Genesis) and Sonic Chaos. They play better on the Remote/CC than they due using the clunky GC controler. I have the SGC on PS2, but I prefer not having the grips. Gives it a more nostalgic feel.

I prefer the Virtual Console. They are for the most part the same thing as the original and I could care less about complimenation. Complimenation these days can take away the oppertunity for an VC release.

The GameCube controller works just fine, since you only need to use the analog stick and one button. On top of that, Sonic Mega Collection has the lock-on games (Sonic 3 & Knuckles is the best Sonic Genesis game there is), which will probably never appear on Virtual Console. Add in the cheaper price, perfect emulation, and the bonuses of Ristar and Flicky, and Sonic Mega Collection is definitely the way to go.

Agreed on the GC, it blows for playing classic digital input games. However the solution for me was to get an adapter to use the CC and a Gamecube extension cable for playing games like Mr. Driller Drill Land -- works great!

You mean games that originally used a D-Pad? There's nothing wrong with using an analog stick for those games. The only VC game (other than NES where it's easier to use a Wiimote) for which I prefer a D-Pad is Pulseman, and that's only because I have trouble pressing the analog stick twice in the same direction fast enough for the dash move that instantly charges up Pulseman. Most double direction movements don't require you to be that fast, making the analog stick just fine in those cases.

I respectfully disagree. The additional movement required for the stick just doesn't feel as responsive as a digital input. Even something as basic as Mr. Driller doesn't play as well using an analogue stick; generally it's fine, but when things get hectic the lack of precision results in costly mistakes. If the pacing of the game isn't that fast and it's more forgiving of controller slips generally then I can see making the compromise, but I've never been a big fan of the transition to analogue for games that traditionally used digital input.

I support compilations due to their cheaper price per game (and sure availability of thereof). Me, I am just fine with using the GameCube Controller (though can you not use that itty-bitty D-pad)? (Of course, I am not totally opposed to Virtual Console...)

Actually, I like Bowser AND hairy bellies!
