Try Fun! Fun! Minigolf on WiiWare, or maybe My Aquarium / Bomberman Blast / Let's Catch / Pop.

It really depends on the 3-5 year old. My brother could read (to some extent, anyway) at 4, but a lot of kids can't, for example. VC has plenty of no-reading-skills-required platformers, of course, but it still becomes a matter of how complicated a game the kid can understand.

It doesn't really help that I don't remember gaming before I was six (doesn't mean I didn't, but I know for a fact that I got my original Gameboy for my sixth birthday), so I don't even know what I could handle back then!

I guess this post hasn't been very helpful...sorry.

water warfare is a good way to get them trained in first person shooters without any adult material

IMO 3-5 year old kids don't have the experience to point the controller at the screen unless they use the classic controller. At least my little cousin doesn't have that kind of experience. He really likes Mario Kart 64,Sonic the Hedgehog 1, 2 and 3 and his favourites are the Smash Bros. games.

I have great videos!

My cousin Ollie likes the 2D Mario games. He's 5, by the way.

I would assume that many on here are not even out of school yet, nevermind around younger kids. My Daughter who is almost 3 can use the controller pretty well. We were playing online flash based games using the opera browser at FisherPrice.com

Toki Tori is a great game, inoffensive content-wise and will teach him problem solving skills. I remember playing games like Lemmings when I was 5-6 years old so the gameplay shouldn't be too difficult for him to understand, although you'll have to help him solve the puzzles.

That does seem to be a popular assumption, but it's always overstated. Sure, we've got some users as young as 10, but I'd say at LEAST half of us are 20+. Plus, there have already been some posts referring to cousins, so even younger people can be around 3-5 year olds quite easily.

@Chicken Brutus: You aren't setting a very good forum usage example here, Mr. Moderator.

Might be true for your cuz, but don't lump all 3-5 year olds into that assumption. My little nephews have no problems handling and controling the Wiimote and Nunchuk. They range in age from 4-7 now, but have been playing since they were 3. Some people don't give younger kids enough credit.

Back to the topic... My nephews love shooting, adventure and racing games. Big hits with them were/are:
Wii Titles:
Super Smash Bros.
Ghost Squad
Mario Kart Wii
Rampage
Super Mario Galaxy
The Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess

WiiWare:
Onslaught

As long as the game doesn't use profanity, have excessive gore or show adult content I'll let them play.

They're pretty intuitive and can figure things out even if they can't read what the actual instructions are.
*Note - To those who are wondering if my nephews are violent psychos and bounce off the walls 24/7, no they are not and they don't, lol. They're actually very well behaved.

Well, if they get Onslaught, at least "that's why you're still a kid!" will make perfect sense.

That's why you're still a kid.

When I was 6, I got a Game Gear and Sonic the Hedgehog 2. I loved it. I'd recommend the old school Genesis/Master system Sonic games. Probably Sonic 3 for Genesis is the easiest one on there to start, unless they have Sonic Chaos for the Master System on VC.

I am way too lazy to think of something clever.

LOL@ "That's why you're still a kid." I hate it when it says that.

I just remembered another VC game I just downloaded that the little ones like - Street Fighter II Turbo. I got it for nostalgia's sake but they seem to like it too.

Animal Crossing, I play it with relatives kids all the time. They love to make their own character and get make overs and stuff. They can't play it by themselves though, you'll need to help.
