http://wii.ign.com/articles/101/1017289p1.html The latest IGN article confirms all gameplay will be button based and not in any way motion based. It's one thing to include control options when your core setup utilizes motion like Mario Kart. But this is just sickening. THQ's incompetence gives them this idea that in order to make the game more of a sim, they have to feature traditional controls. I was hoping to see Yuke's take the motion further this year, push online more etc. Now it sounds even more like a dumbed down HD game (which it probably is).
Another thing is I expect this game to flop. Developers and some forum junkies need to learn games on Wii with limited or no motion control almost always flop 'cough' Muramasa 'cough'. while games that make their input obvious (Boom Blox, Shaun White) typically see success. So I don't get this step backward.

Sweet heavens, developers have finally got it. Praise the lord. Hallelujah. Do a jig.
Motion controls are not future. At least, I really hope not. And whether something 'flops' or not really has very little to do with how little waggle it has.

Motion controls aren't a bad thing in my opinion and can make some things better, but can easily turn out bad when they are implemented badly. Motion controls need to be fine-tuned so it doesn't miss read your motion, I don't see why a wrestling game shouldn't have motion controls though...just make them work and don't have too many...

OK, if a wiimote shake was responsible for SSBB's and SMG's success, maybe they could make a last-minute change to this game and map a wiimote shake to something like pulling your opponent's eyeballs out and biting through their optical nerves. That would ensure success, right? THQ, are you listening? Can you make this last-minute change?

First of all, it's a wrestling game; who cares? Secondly. I hate it when games that don't need to have motion control do just because the developer has the same mindset as you. It's there, and if you don't use it, that means the game will flop. I don't know anyone who actually uses the motion control scheme with SSBB; everyone uses the GCN controller or the classic controller, because it's one of those games that don't need motion control.
I don't care if the game doesn't have motion controls since not only am I not going to buy it but it just doesn't interest me. Though I think the Next generation of consoles are motion controlled. Just look at Sony and Microsoft participating.

Here's where you go wrong! Motion controls are actually the devil. I think you'll notice that Ninty keeps motion controls to a bare minimum in their regular (non-minigame collection) game series. And they're the ones who introduced this purportedly revolutionary way to play. That's because they know that the wiimote's motion controls are not responsive enough to fit the design of 9.9 out of 10 games.

Or maybe its because most of Nintendo's franchises like Super Mario, Super Smash Bros., Zelda, Wario Land, and others don't necessarily need to go all out on the motion controls because its not needed. Sports games on the other hand like Wii sports 1 & 2 its necessary to have motion based controls and same goes for MP3 Corruption.
EIT: Oh and Mario Kart uses motion based controls for its Wii related control schemes. Wii wheel and Wii+Nunchuck.
You know for only FPS, TPS, Sports games, Racing games, party games, and some others that don't come to ind. But yeah its almost never needed. (sarcasm)

But is it needed to play the game? No. KBAM and dual analog have long been very acceptable and highly refined standards for games from the genres you listed.
Is it needed to play the game? Metroid Prime 3 corruption's grappling hook where you shake the Nunchuck to progress through the game? Is it needed? You can customize your controls in Conduit which means something has to be assigned to the Wiimote and Nunchuck shake options in order for you to win online or off.
And yeah Dual Analog has been mastered by game developers hoorah! But think for a second how long has dual analog been out and about? Yeah I thought so. And motion? Thought so too.
When I said needed, I didn't mean "is it needed because the game devs gave you no alternative?" I meant, is it necessary to design the game with motion controls because there is no viable alternative. Because that's what it means when you talk about whether devs included/didn't include motion controls because they were needed/not needed.
Thats the point of the wii though- motion controls. So for wii FPS having motion based controls for necessary moves for the games can be lead to motion when no other buttons are open for example the grappling hook in MP3. You shake the Nunchuck.
