Does it serve any purpose whatsoever? I never completed the Wii version, and given nothing else on my to play list at the moment (that I can afford, at any rate) I figured I'd pick it back up again. But that damn fairy is irritating the hell out of me. As far as I can tell it does nothing more than tinkle. Constantly. Whilst walking, whilst fighting, whilst cutscenes are playing, it's always there, ready to tinkle away to every vague movement made by the Wiimote. And I can't figure out what it's actually for, asides a pointer. But there's nothing you need to point at until you pull out something like a bow and arrow. At which point it disappears and is replaced by an actual targeting cursor. Huh.
Is there any reason for it to be there, and if not, is there any way to turn the bloody thing off?

"+" button, options, pointer. That should solve the problem.

Then you would certainly hate ocarina of time where she says Hay Listen

As far as i have noticed it serves no purpose because as you sadi the only time when you have to point on the screen the fairy is replaced. It also serves no story purpose. Link just has some random fairy flying around him at all times yet he and no one else notices it. Not really sure why they put that in. This said V8 Ninja solved your problem.

I actually liked Navi. And Tatl and Ciela. They only made a noise when they had something to say. This thing's just a constant irritation for no reason whatsoever.

@V8 Ninja: Yeah, but that turns off all the pointer controls, including the bow and arrow (and similar weapons). I might as well be playing the GC version. Bloody fairy.

I always thought it was just there to put in place of your cursor when you weren't using it for weapons. It never bothered me, I thought it was kinda cool personally. It also appears in menus so its not completely pointless.

As far as the story of it. Obviously the gamecube version and therefore the original version when they made it didn't have the cursor. Therefore no story. I am sure when they make the next Zelda on Wii (unless it gets next console delayed again) they will have a backstory for the pointer.

I just wish it went away when the wiimote wasn't pointed at the screen, then I'd be perfectly happy.

@Raylax Really? Weird. Last time I remember, that would only turn off the fairy cursor, not every other kind of cursor...

This actually causes a ton of problems. It makes it so your weapons aren't pointer-based any more, which is horribly inconvenient. The pointer fairy seems pointless because usually in a Zelda game the fairy has a central role in the story. In this game the pointer is simply that--a pointer. It's actually kind of nice because then you have an idea of where you're cursor is going to be when you whip out your bow and arrows or clawshot.

i spose you could just turn off the sound in your wiimote, but then you'd lose out on other sound effects, too (such as that satisfying bow sound). oh well. i guess regardless you're going to have to make a sacrifice. (by the way, this is just part of the reason why the GC version is better. part 2? left-handed link!)

By the way, the GC version isn't really better in any sense of the word.

Can't help you there. I only played the Gamecube version, because I wanted to be true to the original design, or some such crap like that.

Wouldn't you still need the fairy to answer question prompts?
