I myself haven't got the game, and was wondering if someone could help me with the following things:
How difficult is the game? I really can't be bothered putting the effort into trying some Mega Man-style-difficulty at the moment cos I'm overloaded with stuff to do etc, so if you could tell me how tricky it is on the easy setting, that'd be helpful
I started on easy with seven lives because I figured I would need them. Although I kept getting hit due to not knowing the patterns of the enemies on my first play, death is much less frustrating than in it is Megaman 9 or the earlier Contra games.
Edgey, Gumshoe, Godot, Sissel, Larry, then Mia, Franziska, Maggie, Kay and Lynne.
I'm throwing my money at the screen but nothing happens!
According to Sean's first impressions and NGamer's review today, it seems a lot harder than you find it, Bass - how difficult would you rate it on a scale of one to ten, and does anyone else have any thoughts?
I got Game Over within the first 20 seconds LOL! Although after a few tries i got better and can now reach level 3 without much difficulty. I'd say this was well worth a purchase.
"And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins." Matt. 1:21.
In order to truly appreciate a "ReBirth", I think you should experience the original birth first. It's like Mega Man 9...if it was the first MM game you ever played, it would still be great, but you would miss out on that whole nostalgia factor.
I am very excited about Contra ReBirth. I hope they got it right. This is a day 1 download for me, and only my 3rd WiiWare game. Nintendo needs to do this with more 8 bit and 16 bit titles. Castlvevania ReBirth? New Legend of Zelda??? Yes please.
I'd check out the originals first though the consensus does seem to be that this is a solid representation of the series so nothing wrong with checking this out first then going back to the originals. Actually starting with this might be best then if you like it you still have some classics to discover. @bonham2 If you missed out on it when it first came out I'd think there would be no way to have the nostalgia factor except for maybe remembering that game you played a couple weeks ago.

well thats good, cause my classic controller barely made it out some brutal Fatal Fury 2 sessions last week and than Mega Man 9 this week....you ever had a controller that had that peice of something rattling around inside of it before? yeah i got like 3 or 4 of them in my classic controller now lol i dunno if it could survive a new contra game if it was super frustrating....
Relax, this one's easy. And by "easy", I mean, "you can beat Level 1 on Easy your first time without using a Continue".
What he said, AND you do get unlimited continues, as well as checkpoints for when you have to continue, you don't have to start from the beginning of the stage. The game is just far less frustrating as the others, it's actually BEATABLE without a code or anything.

Pfft, IIRC I did that with Super C and Contra 3, I think also with the arcade version of Contra 1. I consider that the standard of Contra difficulty, you'll pass the first level as a motivation to get further, Contra 4 started hard right away and pretty much told you "forget about progressing".
i can't believe they let you keep your weapons after you die and you get unlimited continues. how un-contra like....this game is a cake walk compared to any other contra games. great game! gotta love the forgiving check points too!
