On the system side, definitely the Nintendo ON and in the gaming section, definitely Super Mario 128!

Ok, the hoaxes can apply to in-game characters, hyped-up games that never showed on any Nintendo system (aka CANCELLED) whether home or portable, or system/peripheral ideas that never materialized!

i think hes not talking about that early Dolphin-Demo. There was also another (really poorly made) Video with "in game grabs" of a "cool new" 3D-Mario "Game" just search an youtube. i bet you find it.
The Spaceworld 2000 Zelda tech demo, which I misunderstood for being a trailer for an actual, coming game. Blood shot out of my eyes after I saw the first Wind Waker screen shots later

SM128 is just a prototype, not a hoax! It was really intended to complement, not replace Sunshine(though I still consider Sunshine to be SM128)! Pikmin may have had some of its elements, but really, the most obvious thing it turned into was Super Mario Galaxy(personally, I like to consider Galaxy to be Super Mario 256, but that's me)!

Yeah, but I think Kid Icarus Wii was only a rumor. I remember Reggie saying that Nintendo never said anything about Kid Icarus on the Wii.

I still hate IGN for that April Fool, the dumbass' didn't disable the comments section below so it was ruined before I went in, thank god. The Zelda trailer looks good for a bit, but goes downhill fast. As for the biggest hoax, there was with thing called a 64DD were you could make your own F-Zero cars and tracks. I wanted it so bad, but of course it was too good to be true.

The 64DD wasn't a hoax was it? It was a failure.
I remember being excited for the SimCity instalment.
@Edhe: the 64DD was announced for NA and EU but was only actually released in Japan, where it was indeed a failure. it would be a 'hoax' as defined by the original post, though, even though it's not actually one. :3

It's like what Sony tried to do with the original PS2 but failed miserably.
