"Do the same exact thing again, but with someone else. And again. And again." Fortunately playing on the lowest difficulty isn't too time consuming, but that's still 16 times I have to play through the same mode, a mode I don't even like, just so I can play any character I want in versus mode, which is the only mode I buy fighting games for.
That's how I felt about SSE (which I vowed to never play again) - very repetitive. But the alternative unlocking methods were far more so.
And on a side note, you can unlock all the characters in 14 play throughs by using the newly unlocked characters from each side.

Oh, that's good to know, thanks! I'm already halfway done then, excellent. And yea, SSE is boring, but the cutscenes and boss battles were fun enough to play through it once, which is all it takes, fortunately.
My problem is, I unlocked a character icon (I use these to remember who I've cleared the game as so far) and I JUST checked them now. I have three, and one is a CAPCOM logo. I can't remember who I used to unlock it. I played as Ryu and the Capcom character with the sword, and of those, I can't remember who I beat the final boss with because I skipped right through the ending. Does anyone know who I might've used to unlock the "Capcom" logo as an "Icon"? I assume it was Ryu but I can't remember...Someone please help me out because this is killing my brain O_O
@Cheezy: I think the Capcom icon and the Tatsunoko seahorse icon are both default icons. When I beat the game the first time with Kaijin No Soki(Capcom guy with sword) I unlocked his icon. The funny thing that I don't get is when I beat the game with Casshan the game said that I unlocked his icon but it never appeared in the icon inventory or the shop. I wonder what happened to it.

That's weird...I beat the game four times and I have four icons now, but my second play through I can't remember which one I beat the final boss with :/
Here's a tip for people who you may encounter online using a G Lightan (or PTX40). I just fought an opponent named Gery (~1200BP, 80% win percentage) who was using G. Lightan's icon, so I had a pretty good feeling he was going to be using that big cheap piece of crap.
I used Jun the Swan, just in case I was wrong, and Alex, just in case I was right. Using Alex's Powerbombs (HCB+Attack), you can pretty much tear the giants apart. I took him down about 2/3 health before he started using the Hyper Combo stomps on me, and when he dropped Alex, Jun quickly came out and did some clean up with a Phoenix.
Long story short, Alex > G. Lightan.

I do so hate the Onion's AV Club. Their reviews lack any sort of believability that they really played or understood what it was they were reviewing.
They gave TvC a B- (67 on Metacritic) with this as their descriptor: Once you get over the game’s roster, under the hood is a fighting-game-newbie friendly, flashy button-masher.
Seriously? If all you're doing is button-mashing, you're not going to get too far.

This is now tied with NSMB Wii for my favorite game on Wii (that means it's even better than Brawl). Tekkaman Blade, Joe the Condor, and Frank West down, Zero and Yatterman-2 to go!

Definitely better than Brawl. I'd have to say this is my favorite Wii game now too. I hope it stands the test of time and continues to be.
I was playing online earlier today and I'm still amazed out how smooth (lagwise) all the battles are.

I actually enjoy doing the Arcade mode with a bunch of different characters. It's fun trying new characters and teams, it doesn't even feel like doing the same thing over and over since it always feels so different with each character combo. Plus, this game has so many "Woh, awesome!" moments. Like when I found out that Roll dies all MegaMan style. I used Ryu's super hard kick (lol B forward) expecting Roll to be thrown across the stage and BOOM. She blowed up. Or when I was Tekkaman Zero, against the big Capcom robot (PK2404 or something silly), and it barely had and like left. So I used Tekkama's long grab thing, and I attached on to it, pulled myself forward, and smacked it across the face, killing it.
I've had so many cool experiences with this game. It's so much fun.
Oh, and @Adam, you went on the lowest difficulty? Just one star? For shame.
Well, I got this in the post yesterday and I have to say my feelings are mixed. I really like the Tatsunoko characters; in fact I'd be happier if they had dumped the Capcom stuff and just made it a big anime crossover game. I was gutted that the original trailer for Cross Generation of Heroes was missing and I'm hoping it's one of the two other unlockable movies in the Gallery, because the new intro is a damp squib by comparison -- the original Japanese intro is what sparked my interest in this title in the first place.
I was pleased that despite not laying a hand to a Street Fighter game since playing Alpha 2 in a laundromat over a decade ago I could get to the boss on the first go with default settings. I used the Classic Controller and my thumb is still sore from the d-pad pressing (ah memories)! The moves are a bit tough for me to pull off consistently. I just went for a randomly generated team which came up with Yatterman-1 and Tekkaman -- they're actually well paired (and colour-coordinated) with Yatterman being fast and having easier special moves to pull off and Tekkaman dealing out the pain -- when I could get one of his moves to work (what's with the "Z" motion on the d-pad, come on!). I've not been able to figure out how to pull off an air combo (I thought it was just pressing up after knocking your opponent into the sky and then attacking, but all that does is make me do a little hop), nor have I been able to do a Hyper move.
I did try online, but honestly I never liked playing random people in these games in the arcade because I'm just not that good. Playing online against someone without the speech component is just like playing jacked-up AI to me -- I don't see the draw in getting my ass handed to me in a 30-second match. The other depressing thing was in the two Wi-Fi matches I played (one free, one ranked) the opposition was using the same bloody fighters: Ryu and Ippatsuman -- is everybody using those guys or is it a freak coincidence? My handle is Sean_A if I ever do give it another go.
Between not being interested in online and missing the Cross Gen intro, if it wasn't for the additional Tatsunoko characters I'd probably trade this in and just import the original Japanese game. If the Cross Gen intro isn't an extra here, I might just end up with two versions of this game!
I've had so many cool experiences with this game. It's so much fun.
I was very surprised last night when playing online that the floor on Uncharted Region of China broke and we fell through to another stage. As many times as I went through Arcade Mode, I never saw that happen. That was awesome! Anyone know if other stages do that too?

It's a glorious feeling! I think my thumb retained some perma-toughness from the SNES era.

Don't lose hope because of this. (wink wink)
As far as Ryu and Ippatsuman, that was just coincidence. I understand what you're saying about the online (jacked up AI), that was exactly how I felt the few times I tried to play Brawl online. My experience with TvC has been completely different though, and the ranking system really brings a little more realism to it, and it's neat to see other peoples' total wins and percentage.
I would say to you that you ought to play through the Arcade some, and get a good feel for how the Hyper Combos work, and how you can make them part of a standard combo (ie less (or un)blockable). Online can be discouraging if you just get flattened every time. Training helps.
Be sure to add your FC to the lists in the Online forum, you'll at least have some good NLifers to play.

The Z-motion (which could've been explained a bit better, yes) is essentially just a quarter-circle after pressing forward.(it's technically forward, down, down-forward, but it accepts forward, quarter circle forward too, so there's no reason not to).
For an air combo, you need to press up before the character rises to his feet, in other words as quickly as possible after launching your opponent. It's a bit hard to get it down in the heat of battle, but try it in practice mode.
Hyper moves are just like regular special moves, except you press R instead of an attack button (you can press two attack buttons, too, but using R is easier).

Cool, I'd hate to buy the import copy for one character that's not in this one and a different intro!
Is there a friend code as well as the handle? I'll have to note that...
You're getting better music, animated endings and a heap of mini games too. Worth the 20$.
There's a friend code, yes, you can see it by going into the "register friend code" menu after going online.
Sean Aaron, the move inputs are similar to Smash Bros (which I'm assuming you don't play) -- it is best to start in Training Mode to learn the moves and combos. If you're not impressed with the American version, I don't think getting the Japanese version will make you love it even more. ?
Somebody set up us the bomb. Wii: 8703 7486 8875 3789 I love PWN3NG NintendoLife members on Tatsunoko :-)
Last night I unlocked Zero and Yatterman-2, plus Ultimate All-Shooters at long last (darn 'Y' in 'PLAYING'!), and I love the game even more. My favorite characters are Polimar, Tekkaman, Tekkaman Blade, and Joe the Condor on the Tatsunoko side, and Batsu, Viewtiful Joe, Ivan, and Zero from Capcom.
