I decided to start playing again last night. I set a really good pace, right up until Maridia. I always get lost in that place.
Same problem. Every time. This game's level design is phenomenal
Sounds stupid coming from me but I know where to go since I FINALLY got passed that part. If you have the visor (to scan), then scan and/or bomb/blast every cieling, wall, and floor in the northern part of Maridia. (Here's a little hint: Don't bother doing this by the elevator north in Maridia where you come from Crateria. It's not where i'm specifically trying to say it's at.)

lol, I think Ridley took about two tries on my first run. I think I may go for 100% this run, and then mebbe beat it under 3 hours on my next one. And I agree, the level design in this game is incredible. Absolutely incredible.

I refuse to get the X-Ray visor. I'll figure it out though, I always do.
I finally beat it. It was THE most epic ending in a game by far! My adrenaline was through the roof! And yeah it was my first time if you didn't get that hint.
I got 73%.

Yea, I definitely used it my first time through, just never again. I think power bombs are actually a quicker solution than X-Ray, anyway. Are there any secrets a power bomb won't reveal? I don't remember.
@Adam: Yeah, there are some invisible tunnels that don't become revealed when you use the power bombs. As a matter of fact I was just testing the two, haha.
Regarding secrets, holymegadoodoo, I was just in this secret room in a secret room in a secret room. SO. EPIC. I've got 85 missiles, the x-ray visor, and and almost a full row of E-Tanks. About to go to the sunken ship. I doubt I'll have time to 100% this before I leave on Monday, though. :/
What makes the game so extraordinary great are those little moments 'n details like the dig-machine in Maridia, the path clearing Chozo statue in the Wrecked ship, the electrocuting of Draygon in the Maridia area, the thunder in the soundtrack when you land on Crateria in soaking rain, the secret area in Nofair which entrance is shaped like a dragon's head...
P.S. I also prefer the traditional Castlevania's over the Metroid-inspired ones, not that these games are bad, they just aren't Castlevania. Symphony of the Night however is one of my favourite Playstation titles. But for me Castlevania is in it's true form in the games Super Castlevania IV and III.
Well, you cannot make a speedboost in the left-hand area of the elevator, as the speedbooster itself is further into the Nofair area on the right-hand side of the elevator.
Take the first door (right). There is a room you'll encounter in a while that is made up by 'green glass-like balls', there you must go further down

K, I'll try finding my way through more of the right side of Norfair to get the booster.
