The Ice Beam is in Norfair. It's that metal-themed room (to the left of the main shaft hub thingy) where you have to use the speed-booster to get through. Once you're through it you climb up the small platform section on the right of the room, and there's a small opening which you can morphball into. That's where the ice beam is. :3

I've got 40 missiles right now, I think.

Romulux, exactly how much preparation goes into such a fast run like that?

i just watched some speed run videos and thought it would be fun to try it myself. i spent a few minutes trying to figure out how the hell they do some of those tricks, otherwise it's just running through as fast as you can from memory. i used save stations two or three times, because i'm not good enough to do everything well in one go.

i think the world record is 27 minutes or so, so even though i think my time is pretty good, someone out there could beat the game and have a cup of tea or two before i finish. it's extremely humbling to watch those runs... check the wall jumps at 6:30

Well I just got the grappling hook, wave beam, and several tanks and expansions. Currently under the 2 hour mark. :3

I'd love to get this beat under 3 hours, but I don't think that's gonna happen, haha. Maybe on run #3. I think it's safe to say that I'll at least beat @Od at the rate he's going. XD

though, to be fair, it took me almost 8 hours to beat it the first time.

So sad to see this has 128 replies while my Castlevania Bloodlines post has zilch. You guys disappoint me.

Maybe that's because Super Metroid is 128 times better. >:3

I absolutely cannot stand non-Metroid-style Castlevania. I know it's a hugely popular franchise and all, but those have got to be the worst jumping physics and level design after Dragon's Lair on NES, without exaggeration. I know Bloodlines isn't NES, but I never noticed any major improvements in the ones I've played. Think I played that one, too.

Pix, three hours isn't tough. You could certainly do it on try 3 since you've played the game so much in so little time.

I don't like the Metroidvania's either Adam. I frankly don't understand their appeal, but to each their own. Bloodlines however is in no way a Metroidvania. It's just pure old school linear level whip every monster in sight and then fight a boss action platformer Castlevania done Genesis style.

I think you read that backwards. I don't like the traditional Castlevanias. I love the Metroid-esque ones (which should come as no surprise, since I'm commenting in this thread). I don't understand what Bloodlines has to do with this thread in the first place, really.

I've been playing Super Metroid off the VC and got to Ridley (finally), and yeah... broke my classic controller from frustration. I can't beat him and it's starting to get to me...

I decided to start playing again last night.
I set a really good pace, right up until Maridia. I always get lost in that place.

@Odnetnin: Here's a hint: Use power bombs in the powerup/expansion "rooms". :3 Oh, and do you have the Spazer yet?

Oh, sorry. I somehow glanced over the "non" part. Funny thing is, I do like Metroid. I just can't stand the Metroidvania's. I don't want to explore and find upgrades in a Castlevania game. Just give me a whip, crosses and holy water and let me tear up some ghouls.

Same problem. Every time. This game's level design is phenomenal

Yeah, this is my fourth time through the game this year.
And Maridia still manages to confuse and frustrate me. I'm about 1:47 into the game and Maridia has eaten up about half an hour of that time. Uggh.
