Last time I played through it, I think my final time was 3 hours, or 3.5 hours. I forget. I'm not exactly a speed demon, but the game has gotten to be ridiculously easy for me, with Ridley being the only part of the game where I come close to dying at, if I die at all (though last time the phantom killed me too, I forget how I let that happen). I really want to get a webcam someday so that I can do live races with people. That would be a blast. We used to do that in high school with multiple TVs in a room instead of online. The good old days.
But anyway, I actually played through it a month or two ago, so let's put that off for now, haha. We'll just have to have a site-wide Other M race when it comes out. First one to finish gets an imaginary prize. I'd specify something cool, but since it's imaginary, you can just pretend it's whatever you want. I'll of course be competing for the chance to imagine I won a pony.
It's mildly hard, but still awesome. The sheer graphic quality still amazes me. No, I don't mean compared to other games from that generation, I mean in general.

Romulux, exactly how much preparation goes into such a fast run like that? Did it just happen naturally from playing it so much, or do you actually plot out on paper and practice individual parts over and over? Also, is that in one go, or do you use save points and reset if you screw up (in other words, are you going by in-game timer or actual time)? I'm fascinated by the potential for speed running Metroid games. No series is better suited. But never really bothered trying myself, at least not seriously. I always try to beat games quickly.
Other M race? Great, now I really have to get a move on Super Metroid. I'm the "bubble room" currently, having just gotten back from getting the speed booster. How far in the game am I?
Not particularly far. You've basically completed Brinstar and barely made your way into Norfair, if you count Ridley's Lair as part of it (which the map system does). There's still Maridia (fairly large and kind of confusing area) and the ship (very small area but with one of the harder bosses), and of course more back-tracking and Tourian.
I really just meant the Other M race thing as a joke. I barely have time to play video games on weekdays, so I certainly won't be a contender. I hope you don't ruin Super Metroid for yourself just to make time to rush through Other M.
I just realized that means I'm a n00b, haha. Anyway, yay. You know what would be awesome? If we could beat it together. But you probably have too much experience to go through it as painfully slowly as I am.
Wow you guys got super missiles really early! Hmmm... I screwed up the game so much last time I played. It took me a long time to get super missiles, and I found an expansion long before I found the original pickup. I also went through most of the game with just 5 super missiles and 2 energy tanks. I reached Crocomire with 5 super missiles, ~20 missiles, no power bombs, no grapple beam, 2 energy tanks.
So I just played the game for an hour, and I got the Charge Shot, Hi-Jump Boots, Varia Suit, Spazer, Speed Boots, and Ice Beam, along with two E-Tanks and 3 or 4 missile expansions. I love this game. XD
