Topic: Sonic on Virtual Console VS Sonic Mega Collection

Since every game from Sonic Mega Collection (except for Flicky) is now on the Virtual Console, I decided to start this topic. Would you prefer to download all the Sonic games off the VC, or would you prefer to buy the Gamecube's Sonic Mega Collection?
I'll list advantages of each....

SONIC ON VIRTUAL CONSOLE:

  • Allows you to use a much better controller, you're not forced to use the Gamecube controller
  • Much more convenient, just a simple click on the Wii menu away, You don't have to break out the GC disc, memory cards, and tangly GC controllers just to play a Sonic game
  • You're able to simply "gift" the games right to friends that have no access to the classic Sonic games in their house
  • When you buy or gift these, your spent money is actually going towards the VC. You're supporting the Virtual Console

SONIC MEGA COLLECTION:

  • Much cheaper
  • You get some extra artwork with it
  • An advantage for PAL: You get the option to play the Japanese and American 60HZ versions

Feel free to add you're own advantages as well

Yeah I'm preferring the VC versions myself simply for the controller options presented to me

If I had a PAL Wii however, totally different story

The sonic mega collection can be picked up for the price of one sonic title on virtual console. I would find it difficult to look past that to be honest.

Oh, you forget the Sonic Classic Collection on the DS! A 'save anywhere' feature, and artwork and pictures etc. That gets my vote.

If you have a PS2 I'd say get that collection, has more games than the GC version, and the PS2 D-pad while not perfect is better than the GC D-pad IMO.

The mega collection doesn't fill the screen while the vc games do.
EDIT: it also requires unlocking on mega collection instead of given with the vc purchase and while a disk can get scratched and break, the vc games last for the lifetime of the system. The mega collection can be played on other systems and the vc is stuck on the console it is bought on.

ganondwarf has always been short

That one doesn't have multiplayer though

my GC disk is good enough for me. i've never been much of a sonic fan anyway, so on the rare occasion the mood strikes, me, i'm not picky.

Since I only need one Sonic game to be happy, I prefer the VC. The Classic Controller is indeed superior. If you're a true fan, you can get the Mega Collection. For the record, the MC was also released to the PS2, which isn't as clunky (in fact, it's almost like the CC Pro).

I have no problem with the GameCube controller. The analog stick works just fine with Sonic, and you only need one button, anyway.

Sonic Mega Collection is my pick, because it's much cheaper, it also includes Flicky and Ristar, and there's a lot of extra content like the artwork and the original manuals.

Ash: Professor Oak, how's your Bulbasaur?
Prof. Oak: Oh, it only hurts when I sit.
...
Prof. Oak: It's only Chansey if Krabby won't let go. Bye, now.
Ash: I don't think I'm going to call him anymore.

Getting all the Sonic games on VC included on Sonic Mega Collection: About 5400 Wii Points
Getting Sonic Mega Collection, which includes Flicky and Ristar as a bonus: $5
And they control exactly the same, so Mega Collection.

Luigi-la-bouncy

I'd get it for the PS3. Better d-pad

You're better off buying Ristar of the VC than unlocking it on the GC disk.

The time investment required to unlock Ristar is quite large, with a minimum wage job, you would be able to save time and make money if you were to buy Ristar.

Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection doesn't include the lock-on games

Namo

Sonic Mega Collection Plus and Sonic Gems Collection when they first came out: $70
Sonic Mega Collection Plus and Sonic Gems Collection now: $20
Buying the Sonic Games on the Virtual Console, plus Ristar, Vectorman, Comix Zone, the Ooze, Sonic CD should it come out, etc: 5000+ points ($50)

The better investment is Sonic Mega Collection Plus and Sonic Gems Collection, they have more games and cool unlockables. And Sonic CD.

Grounder is the best robot from the Sonic universe ever. Period. Metal Sonic? Pffft, forg...

I'd have to go with the Mega Collection.

I got all 3 of the collections: Sonic Mega Collection, Sonic Gems Collection, and Sonic Adventure DX. In all seriousness, the price per game ratio is better for these (although now I have to wait for Knuckles Chaotix, SegaSonic the Hedgehog, and those other Sonic games for which I can only hope (like WakuWaku Sonic Police Car).

http://ds.ign.com/articles/107/1075057p1.html This is the review for the Sonic Classic Collection. According to the review, the "save state" feature just takes you to the beginning of the act you were on, the games had to be compressed to be fit (and it looks kinda bad), and they said the effort into it was very minimal.
I was looking forward to it too, but I guess DS isnt the way to go to play sonic.

Nintendo! No Earthbound on VC??? Ah, Grrr, Ohhh... Argh... Yaaagh!... It's not right... not right...not right...
