i've been playing sonic and knuckles (sonic 3 & knuckles) and i've gotten all the emeralds... but i dont seem to be able to turn into super sonic. do i have to collect all the super emeralds too?
If you collected all the normal Chaos Emeralds,then collect 50 rings in a level and jump in the air and while your in mid-air,press the jump button again and he should transform.
If this does not work,then yes,you will need the Super Emeralds to transform into Hyper Sonic.

Once you first visit the place where you access the Super Emerald levels, you give up the Chaos Emeralds you have to activate the corresponding Super Emerald levels, which also negates your ability to become Super Sonic. You can either collect all the Super Emeralds to become Hyper Sonic or start a new game where you avoid all the giant rings after you collect all the Chaos Emeralds (as well as never, no matter how many Emeralds you have, entering the one at the beginning of Mushroom Hill Zone) until you're ready to go for Hyper Sonic.
