I'm not even sure I've ever played a point and click game before. Which is better?

Monkey Island will cost you 5000 points (£50 over here), which is why I'm avoiding it. Zack & Wiki you will find for next to nowt, and it's a really good game, I love those lil guys. Funny game, and very very challenging!

Well the cost of Monkey Island doesn't really bother me since you don't buy it all at once. I just can't decide which to go with. They both have a pirate theme so I imagine they are kinda similar. I'll probably just get one or the other for the moment.

I'd probably go for WiiWare given the choice. Z&W starts out well enough, but the controls get a bit broken at the end (and don't get me started about the music mini-games!). I ended up selling it in frustration.

Zack and Wiki is one of the best puzzlers I've ever played. Just the right amount of clever challenge without crossing over the line into hair-pulling frustration! (Well, maybe it did occasionally ) I agree that some of the motion controls were a little wonky (especially the sword fighting near the end of the game) but I don't know why so many people had problems with the music boxes (which were completely optional, anyway). You just give the remote a quick shake in time with the beat, it worked fine for me every time.

Z&W was nice, but it will make you pull your hair out. If you're cool with overly cute Japanese shtick, you'll like this game. It's not Eastern themed, but it just has that Japanese coating all over it (cutesy big eyes, cheesy sound effects, etc.). The game is overloaded with waggle, and you'll often have to spend hours on one level if the motion controls are giving you difficulty (as there is ZERO margin for error). When you die, you must restart the level. All of it. It has some "Capcom fan service" as well, where you can find 8-bit Capcom badges lying around. I'm sure you can buy it for next to nothing, so give it a shot.

I'd say if you have a PC get Monkey Island for that and save some cash, or even pick up a few of the older monkey Island games for cheap and wait for all the episodes of Tales to be released. Whatever you do you won't be disappointed with a Monkey Island game.

Machu

Z&W is so cheap and such a 'must play', there is now reason not too. Monkey Island you can get on PC for only £20, compared to £50 on Wii? No choice in my opinion.

I don't like Zack & Wiki (too many random puzzles, cheap deaths, too frustrating, too kiddy, too linear)
but I love Monkey Island (very funny, great puzzles, amazing story).

Get Zack & Wiki if you're confident with try&error games. For me, it wasn't even a real point&click adventure.

I'll probably get tales then. Sounds like Zak and Wiki is more annoying than anything else. I don't go for frustrating games. Thanks for the warning guys.

Definitely don't get the Wii version of Monkey Island.

Neither. They're both horrible. If you want a point 'n' click, just get them on their native platform: The PC/Mac. I suggest the original Monkey's Island, or perhaps Grim Fandango, if you can find it. Or Harvey Birdman, that game is hilarious!

I certainly wouldn't call Zack & Wiki "annoying," it's one of the best experience I've had on the Wii. I love puzzle / adventure games, though. Don't take some claims here of problematic controls too gravely, the controls are really quite enjoyable, adding a little interactivity to your standard point / click, and at times creating puzzle types that could never be done in another format, that really require you to think exactly how you're using the item instead of just "use X on Y."

Or get Broken Sword on the DS. The DS also has other great adventures. The Wii is kind of lacking.

I'll just say it now. Monkey Island acts a little buggy, but it's still fun. Also, it's best played on a moderately big screen, and you may want to turn the captions on so you don't miss anything.

It sounds like Link79 is getting Monkey Island over Zack & Wiki. I really like Zack & Wiki and I wanted to get Monkey Island but I've read way too many comments about the WiiWare version being broken so if you can just get the PC version instead.

Umm.... Monkey Island will cost $50 on WiiWare. The full season is only $35 on Steam.

This.

And the original Monkey Island games for PC. They're not just "good enough for a chuckle", they're truly funny.

Since when did 5000 Wii Points equate to £50? It costs £7 for 1000 points on my Wii. Maybe I'm just lucky though.

honestly, I agree that Z&W started out good but the novelty ran out quickly. I have fond memories for the Monkey Island series but until I've played the first in the new series, I can't say whether it's worth buying or not. £35 might seem a lot but Strong Bad cost the same and I'd rate that as being possibly the worst point and click adventure game series I've had to experience and they seemed to get good scores. I can only pray that the current crop of reviews reflect the quality of these games more accurately.

Zack and Wiki is NOT annoying or frustrating, however some of the puzzles are hard enough to need a walkthrough. What it does do really well is the inventory. You only carry around one item at a time that you will only use on that level rather than heaps which you need way later on. And the controls are by no means broken. It's pure brilliance crammed into a DVD and less than $20 new. Do yourself a favour and pick it up. And while I'm at it:

Compare the pair.
