Topic: Shinobi "Spider-Man" question answered!

Having just played it I can say that the colours have been changed in an attempt to avoid a lawsuit from Marvel comics. The Spider-Man guy is now yellow and green in the VCA release.

Weird, but makes no difference to the game. As with other Sega releases, it's presented 4:3 so you'll need to change your screen format if you have a widescreen display. Why they didn't do like Namco and have a surround of some kind is beyond me.

Just a reminder that the Super Shinobi, aka Revenge of Shinobi is complete rubbish compared to this original gem of an arcade game, so don't bother with that, get this!

Well, then I'm not getting Revenge of The Shinobi. This game should have given us hope for an Marvel game release on the Virtual Console Arcade, however, once again, it's dash aside for the moment. Sega should have asked Marvel about having Spiderman in the game.

They might have asked Marvel and were turned down or given some kind of exorbitant cost to pay for licensing... we don't know that they didn't at least try. :3

That's just the same as the XBLA port of Shinobi so I am not surprised. It's easier to change the colour that pay I guess.

I agree that Revenge of Shinobi isn't as good as arcade Shinobi, but it is a very different game and great in it's own right. What's up? Are you finding it too hard? hehe

It is my least favourite of the Shinobi games on the Mega Drive though, I much prefer Shinobi 3 which is a bit more fluid. Also Shadow Dancer is brilliant too, it goes back to the one hit kill system of arcade Shinobi. Well worth a look.

It was more getting tired of cheap deaths than being too hard; the bounce-back after getting hit knocking me into pits of death repeatedly got really old. It also doesn't control as well as the arcade original. I did like Shadow Dancer as well; I'm sure we'll be seeing that on VCA soon!

What a great game Shinobi is, I used to play the arcade original to death back in the day, Is there any issues with controller lag like the unlockable version on the mega drive collection on PS3? It kind of ruined it for me because it made the first boss very hard considering I could clear the game without losing a life back in the day, I wondered why the spider man was yellow and blue on that version guess its all about money, I thought it was just an American version of the game.

So to avoid a lawsuit, Sega repainted Spidey?

It's the same reason there's no NHK in Punchout or Kawasaki in Wave Race 64. It's costly enuf to re-release the games.

This means no Disney, Marvel, or DC games prob'ly. Ninja Turtles 2 will probably have DS/Wii ads in favor of the Pizza Hut ads.

I've noted zero controller issues. I use the CC and remap the controls to my liking. There's an optional "burst fire" button that shoots out a stream of 3 (or was it 5?) shurikens with one press as well.

One problem. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2: The Arcade Game is under licensing issues.

Well we're getting Revenge of Shinobi today. I wonder how popular it will be with people here.

Edgey, Gumshoe, Godot, Sissel, Larry, then Mia, Franziska, Maggie, Kay and Lynne.

I'm throwing my money at the screen but nothing happens!

Sean_Aaron

I thought it was pretty rubbish myself; clearly Damien and I have different tastes! Already deleted from the old SD card...

I find fault with those words being together to describe a game.

Oh c'mon Sean, that's madness. How far did you get? I know it's as hard as nails but it's worth sticking with I'm telling you, it's a classic mate.

But then how often do you get your Mega CD up and running to play it?

I sometimes do buy games I already own just for convenience.

I already had Super Street Fighter II on a collection disc on the PS2 but when I eventually got around to downloading SSFII on the VC I found that I was playing it more on the VC than on the collection.
