Topic: SD card download times

My Sd card takes forever to download or copy games and save files on my wii. When downloading a simple wiiware game The Sd card will take around three times longer to download the software.
Are all SD cards on wii like this, or is it just mine?

downloading takes the same time.

copying depends on how big the file is.

Yeah, when the Wii moves data to the SD card, it does something like a seven-layer encryption of the data. It takes time, basically. Some SD cards are faster than others, but that's not what's taking the time. They did a system update a few years ago now, made the moving of data to and from the SD card faster. Patience is the answer, I'm afraid.

This.

Whether you download to SD card or internal memory, it goes at the same rate. It's the copying/moving that takes time. I suggest you download direct to your SD card so you don't have to sit around copying it later.

the problem with sd cards is that how bigger you take it the slower it will be
if you save something on the sd card then the sd card needs to completle reprogramme every bit
so 256mb is faster dan then 8 gb or higher, i follow programming
the teacher says this is the only weakness of a sd card.
hope i explained it a bit good im not so good in english

It doesn't matter, as there arn't SD card for DSi and Wii separately.

as there is no way to make the speed go faster moving games to your sd card. maybe you could do what i do.
when you download a new game. download it to your wii`s internal memory, and when you`re bored of playing that game, move it to your sd card.

When you play games off the SD card, it has to load it onto the Wii's internal memory, so really, its no point clogging up your menu to play big N64 games, when you can load up the game with a few seconds wait.

@OP Just download it to the SD card.

Did anybody know the game/channel is encoded when it is copied to the SD card? And it is decoded when it is copied to the Wii System Memory? That is what makes the whole process slow.

I don't know what happens when you download a game to the SD card, these are the options:
1. The Wii Shop Channel gives you directly the encoded version as download, so it is only a matter of writing to the SD card.
2. The Wii Shop Channel gives you the decoded version, and while it is downloading, the Wii is encoding the game and after that copying it to the SD card.

Because I also noticed downloading games to the SD card is slower than downloading it to the Wii System Memory, it is probably option 2.

Edit: Ignore me! I'm wearing my stupid hat this morning. You can't use the Wii Shop without the latest firmware and the SD speed update (3.4) predates the SD card menu update (4.0). So the rest of this post is nonsense...

Those of you with super-slow SD transfer speed, what version of Wii firmware do you have? Firmware 3.4 (released in Nov of 2008) drastically improves SD speed:
