I was wondering if anyone here has ever decided to use an extra cooling fan for their Wii?
I leave WiiConnect24 on because I was told it updates your Wii automatically so you don't have to sit through that rare and occasional update, and it keeps your news and weather channels up to date. I noticed mine was running pretty warm when it's in Standby mode. I called Nintendo and asked about this, but they told me that it's normal and I shouldn't be afraid that it's going to overheat. I was relieved, until the guy said that if it ever feels so hot that it almost burns when I touch it, then I need to call them back.
So that freaked me out enough to look into buying external cooling fans to run while it's on Standby mode. I actually bought 2 fans; I bought the Afterglow Cooling Fan Stand because I've heard nothing but good things about it. I also grabbed a little USB Fan for whenever I feel like changing my set up and having it lay horizontally.
I'm currently using the Afterglow and I love it so far. It's whisper quiet and the blue light matches the Wii's own blue light in the disc slot. My Wii still feels slightly warm, but no where near what it did. My buddy was saying I should put the USB one on as well to really run it cool, but I would think having a fan at both vents would actually prevent heat from escaping since the 2 fans would be basically blowing against each other.
Has anyone here ever had their Wii overheat? Have you bought an extra fan? I was wondering which one you bought and what you thought of it.
They make cooling fans for the Wii? It's normal for it to get warm, but it's very rare that it ever really over heats. It only happened to me once (I simply unplugged it and left it alone for the rest of the day, and now it's fine) and I recommend that if you're gonna leave the Wii alone for a while (like, weeks at a time) on standby, keep it upright and remove any discs. Or better yet, don't leave it on standby if you know you're not gonna be back to it in a while.
