Topic: Rechargable Batteries - What da most rewarding option?

The problem with proprietary packs is that batteries have a limited number of cycles where they can be recharged fully. After that they start to lose their capacity to hold charge and this capacity drops off pretty quickly. At least with the rechargeable AA's, when they reach their max cycles, you only need to buy new rechargeable AA's which are relatively inexpensive. With a proprietary battery when it comes time to eventually replace it, it will cost you much more.

Also, when using the docking set up, each time you dock your wii mote you are using a cycle and decreasing the life of the battery. You are better off waiting till they are low charge before recharging again. You will get a longer life from the battery.

rechargable AA batteries here

Very glad I made the switch to this instead of just buying more regular batteries.

I use them since last year got some from Hama with 2AAs + charger for 17 euro and they are great i can play 30 hours with 1 charge and you can charge them 1000 times(for the wiimote theres only 1 rule never use NICD cause they damage it but NIMH can be used

I've heard some negative things about the charging docks. I own a double, and it hasn't messed up my remotes yet. Quadruple docks however, can actaully catch FIRE.

Uh oh. He's back.

Cannot say I heard that one. I avoid NiCD because they tend to have lower storage capacity and contain more hazardous materials than NiMH. They do have the advantage of keeping a charge longer in storage, but I don't tend to charge my batteries until I need them.

Just don't mix rechargeable batteries with normal batteries.
I ruined a 3rd party wireless N64 controller that way. Battery acid everywhere.

i'm willing to use the wii specific chargers even if they're not as cost effective just for the convenience of not having to remove the sleeve and battery cover all the time. the energizer charger i have even has a button on the batter cover that lets you sync the remotes without having to remove anything, you can even press it with the sleeve still on. my remote can keep it's motion plus and cover on until the day that battery finally dies, which probably won't be for another few years. it's definitely the best option if you're lazy.

also, i think nintendo warns against certain types of rechargable batteries, so you may check the manual before buying a set.
i got the energizer flat pad charger recently, which uses induction charging so that you can leave the sleeves/motion plus on. i've used it for a week with absolutely no problems at all, it doesn't take too long to recharge, you get a battery cover similar to the original wii one (although it has a big stupid energizer logo on it), it hasn't once falsely told me the remote was charged. it's $10 more than the nyko, but it's worth it to be able to drop the remote down without having to fiddle with it. it's actually kind of fun to use

nyko has also made an induction charger which is very well regarded so far. i'd go for either that or the energizer, depending on which appeals to your taste more. be warned that the nyko induction charger uses the same oversized rubber battery covers.

Nintendo warns about Nickel-Calidium batteries, old technology! I just use regular rechargeable AA batteries. I'm interested in trying Energizer's Induction charger, I just need to get enough money! It won't make the Wii-mote's jacket melt, will it?

And I hate those rubber grips! I never preferred to put them on! I do wish Nintendo would make an AC adapter for the Wii-mote. Wireless is great, but sometimes I just don't want to be bothered with dying batteries!

hasn't yet!

the battery life isn't the greatest, if you play games all throughout the day you may need to recharge each night. after a session of a few hours you can usually see 1 bar drop off. all rechargables i've seen have inferior life to regular batteries, and it's so easy to recharge that i don't care.

No. While the Wiimote will get warm to the touch, the induction system WILL charge your Wiimote through the jacket, and it won't melt it in the process.
