can some one help me out with a question I have on R.E. I planning going thru the series but I absolutely hate playing games out of order and playing repeats of the same game. So can some one tell me the order in which i need to play the games. Im not talking about order of when they where released more like does darkside come before umbrella and is what order does Zero come in (keeping in mind games only for the Wii and game cube if theres not a wii title to cover it)
Well, you should start with Zero, then RE1. RE2 and 3 happens at the same time, but play them in numerical order. Code Veronica continues RE2. RE4 takes place after the events of RE2, but 10 years later (maybe?). And then finish 5. I don't know the exact timeline.

You should absolutely not start with Zero, as it spoils pretty much every single plot twist in RE1. Play REZero after RE2, and you're safe on spoilers. It was NOT meant to be played first.
Your order should be RE1 (or REmake, it's better), RE2, REZero, RE3, Code Veronica, RE4, RE5.
i dont see those for the Wii and where does the darkside and then umbrella come into play?
In UC, the final scenario takes place in 2003 with Chris and Jill.

They're on GC. Umbrella Chronicles follows the storyline of REZero, RE1 and RE3, and Darkside follows the storyline of RE2 and Code Veronica. Both games also include a bunch of new background stories, but the adaptions of the earlier games are chopped-up, hard to follow, skips a ton of details, and is incredibly spoiler-heavy if you haven't played those games before..
Adding those to the mix, your order should be REmake, RE2, REZero, RE3, Code Veronica, RE4, Umbrella Chronicles and Darkside Chronicles.
simply put I could care less about spoilers, I want to do this fast right cheap and ingame time line order. if game X covers game d then i dont need to play game D. so Adamant should i still follow your order?
Yes. Any other order just creates a confusing mess because the games expects you to know who a bunch of characters are and what events took place in other games, and won't bother trying to properly explain them.

If you want to do it in timeline order, then play Zero first. But if you take spoilers way too seriously, then do it as Adamant said.

so its REmake(gc), RE2(gc), REZero(wii), RE3(gc), Code Veronica(gc), RE4(wii), Umbrella Chronicles and Darkside Chronicles(both wii). and if i cant find the GC games should i just do Zero then umbrella & darkside?

Remember that REmake and Zero have been rereleased as budget wii titles now as well.
Resident evil games have never really ment to have been played in their true timeline anyway for instance REmake has lots of references to the later games spread throughout the game such as Ada from RE2 whose boyfriend had been one of the infected in REmake etc... and besides some games such as Darkside jump around the story a little, you start the game just before Resident evil 4 then you go back and cover Resident Evil 2. If you try and follow the true timeline then you are going to make it difficult for yourself. And in the timeline didnt resident evil 3 take place before AND after resident evil 2??

If I recall correctly, Resident Evil 3 takes place 24 hours before Resident Evil 2.

It's not just about spoilers, it's about understanding of the plot, too - Zero largely focuses on a plotline unrelated to the other games, so that's fine, but the stuff that IS related to the other games just tosses a bunch of references and characters around and expect you to understand what's going on from your previous knowledge of these. No one ever intended for anyone to play it first.
RE3's first half takes place before RE2, and the second half takes place after it, but it was obviously meant to be played after it, yeah.
(also, the reference to Ada in REmake was also there in the original. It's a case of RE2 building on some details from it's prequel, not the remake foreshadowing the technical sequel)
RE Zero, then RE:make then the first two thirds of RE 3 followed by RE2 then the last third of RE 3, then Code Veronica, Operation Javier, Umbrellas End and finally Resdent Evil 4. Those are all possible using the wii to play through the story. Operation Javier is from the Darkside Chronicles which also touches on RE 2 and Codename Veronica and Umbrella's End is from Umbrella Chronicles which also cover Zero, Resident Evil and Resident Evil 3. But I would point out thatits not worth missing out on the original games as Umbrella Chronicles and Darkside Chronicles tell a decent tale but in no where near the depth of the other games. RE:make is definately worth checking out as the later storys have been worked into the remake really well and only add to their enjoyment and understanding of characters that you may not have met yet.
...and yes Resident Evil 3 did take place 24 hours before Resident Evil 2 but also takes place at the destruction of Racoon City which would mean that Resident Evil 2 took place within the middle of Resident Evil 3.
