The only topic I saw for Rage of the Gladiator was the "I'm going to purchase it" topic. This one is for Rage of the Gladiator discussion in general.
If anybody has questions about the game in general, ask. If you own the game and are stuck on a boss, who are you stuck on? Have you completed Challenge Mode? Have you completed Challenge Mode with a Rank: A in each battle? What control methods have you used in the game?
I want this but darn developer not releasing in Australia.
QUEEN OF SASS
It's like, I just love a cowboy
You know
I'm just like, I just, I know, it's bad
But I'm just like
Can I just like, hang off the back of your horse
And can you go a little faster?!
This is my second favorite WiiWare game after Overturn. So far, I've beaten Tagon (the first guy) in Challenge Mode using nothing but the MotionPlus control scheme. (I'm not stuck on the next one. I just haven't gotten around to fighting him, yet.) I've got 3 files to focus on each section of the skill tree. The defense file is my primary one.
Ash: Professor Oak, how's your Bulbasaur?
Prof. Oak: Oh, it only hurts when I sit.
...
Prof. Oak: It's only Chansey if Krabby won't let go. Bye, now.
Ash: I don't think I'm going to call him anymore.

Oh man! Didn't realize that, as I know it's in Europe now. Maybe one day? I'll see if I can get an answer for you.

Horlan the Crusher is who you should be on right now. Here's a video of a battle I recorded against Horlan in normal mode: WARNING!!!! SPOILER ALERT!!! DO NOT WATCH VIDEO IF YOU DON'T WANT TO SEE A FULL BATTLE! OR TWO SPECIAL ATTACKS!!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B_XVWDw3tLA
Hahahaha.... Not even close! The jump in difficulty is huge when you reach Challenge mode. After breezing through the normal mode, I can only beat Tagon (the first enemy) in Challenge mode. That's not a bad thing because I'll be coming back to the game for a long time, but I don't know if I'll ever play through to the end. Luckily it's still fun.
So far I've only used the remote NES-style for controls. Without having a Motion Plus accessory, the other styles don't appeal to me that much... but sometime before long I'm going to get that add-on and try playing through the easy ranks a second time.
My overall impressions are very favorable. Despite some really corny dialog and minor concerns, the development team nailed this game where it mattered most: providing fast and fun gameplay. The comparison is often made to Punch-Out!! but so far I enjoy this game more because (a) you never know what is coming next, and (b) you don't have to start from the beginning each time and can continue even after losing to a boss. The second point is really important to me, because it makes the game much more accessible and enjoyable when aren't particularly good at the game or don't always have time to work your way up from the bottom.

Yea, the addition to Challenge Mode and the Skill Tree in the game was really awesome for it being a WiiWare title. Also, the game having three control methods I think is nice, and has actually added replay value for me.
I completed Challenge Mode using the NES-style controls, with a Rank: S in each fight a few months back(30-40 hours of game-play for this).
Once I finished the game using NES-style controls, I then went back and started a new file using the Wii Remote & Nunchuk controls...I REALLY enjoy them! I have completed Challenge Mode using the Wii Remote & Nunchuk controls, but not with a Rank: S in each battle.
I don't own a WM+ unit, but Rage of the Gladiator actually makes me want a unit, just so I can attempt a complete play-through with those controls after I finish with the Wii Remote & Nunchuk.
I actually agree with your second point also, staying on the same boss is extremely nice, and I also like how the entire match is like one continuous fight; I think it helps keep the game-play intense.
I've got 3 files to focus on each section of the skill tree.
If you aren't aware, it is possible to fill all three sections of the skill tree in one file. It just requires you completing Challenge Mode with a certain Rank per battle, and you are awarded something special for it!
I can't even get all A ranks on the normal mode fights, so I'm certainly not going to be able to do it in Challenge Mode.
By the way, once you guys get WM+, set the WM+ sensitivity to 40%. That way, it will read all but the lightest of swings while never misinterpreting the direction on a fast swing (really important against Ixthid).

Here's a link to my site, with a video I worked on for Rage of the Gladiator. The video briefly shows all the bosses from Rage of the Gladiator, so if you don't want to know what all the bosses look like in the game, DO NOT WATCH THIS VIDEO.
If anybody here is stuck on a boss battle, in Normal or Challenge; and you would like a video of the entire battle, let me know and I'll see if I can put one together for you.
I looked at your other videos, and is it just me, or does Ixthid in Challenge Mode look pretty easy compared to all the trouble I had beating Challenge Mode Tagon?

Ixthid is no walk in the park. He has a certain attack pattern in Challenge Mode that is really difficult to learn, I know one guy that has been stuck on Ixthid in Challenge Mode since March. So, it really depends.
The videos make it "look" easy, but what you don't see are the 50 rounds of me getting pummeled by the bosses that I don't upload!
How far along are you in Challenge Mode Bulbasaurus Rex? Also, thanks for watching the other videos!
I've only beaten Tagon in Challenge Mode (using WM+ controls), but that's just because I've haven't tried taking on Horlan, yet.
I rewatched Challenge Mode Ixthid and still think he looks easier than Challenge Mode Tagon. His/her/its tells are pretty obvious, the timing doesn't vary much (as in slow vs. quick dodges), there's no transformations or side hazards, and the only attack that looks really difficult to dodge is one I've already had to deal with in Normal Mode. Then again, Normal Mode Ixthid (and Master Yee) was also quite a bit easier than the previous opponent, Archdevil Malzor (man, I hated that guy).
What difficult attack pattern are you talking about? If you mean the one where he/she/it opens his/her/its upper eyes/mouth multiple times in the order he/she/it then attacks, I figured out what that meant (from experience with Challenge Mode Tagon's meteor and electricity attacks) the first time I saw it in the video, even before the attacks were actually made.

It's the one preceded by the line, "Dance human!" It's in Normal Mode also, but I think there are more variations to it in Challenge Mode. I agree though, Archdevil and Lord Vensor the 3rd were tougher trying to get Rank A or S on, as was Amit the Charmer.
I don't own a WM+ unit, but I really want to to try it on this game. I just need a retail game and money on top of that purchase it.

Haven't played this game in a while but I do enjoy it very much. Been considering coming back and giving challenge mode another go. Currently on the Naga Queen in challenge mode. I remember I fought her about a dozen or so times and havent come back to it in over a month. That isnt what made me quit. I just got into some other games for a while. I wouldn't mind having a video of her in challenge mode. I imagine if i would just memorize every one of her combinations i would be fine lol but i find her really frustrating. It was kind of strange though. I didn't find Horlan all that difficult after struggling with Tagon about 20 times or so. Horlan i think i beat after the first time since it seemed like Tagon kinda prepared you for new tactics.
Oh I use the NES style controls by the way. Not interested in trying out motion until i decide to get WM+

@Vaynard: I'll try getting a video up in the next week, of a battle against her in Challenge Mode. Do you know what the highest offensive/defensive/magic attack you have is? I don't want to use anything you don't have...
I finally beat Challenge Mode Horlan. Having him always regain some health after the third life until I finish him off with a special attack is just mean. Are all the rest like that, too?
