I picked this up again after a hiatus and finally beat Azim. Still a great game; annoying that I reviewed it on the long-sold North American Wii, so I have to slog through them all again!
I finally beat Challenge Mode Horlan. Having him always regain some health after the third life until I finish him off with a special attack is just mean. Are all the rest like that, too?
I'm still waiting for an answer to this.
Ash: Professor Oak, how's your Bulbasaur?
Prof. Oak: Oh, it only hurts when I sit.
...
Prof. Oak: It's only Chansey if Krabby won't let go. Bye, now.
Ash: I don't think I'm going to call him anymore.

No, not all of the bosses require a special attack to finish; some, but not all.
Thanks a lot coffee. Gives me something to study up on before giving her another go. God you made her look really easy. It's those 4, 5 and i think i saw six hit combos that I really struggle with on her. Does she make a particular quick move or something before she attacks that makes you anticipate what shes going to do?
(By the way what kind of coffee do you drink?) lol
How do you tell when you have to jump over her tail? Is it a set pattern only depending on which life she's on?

She does one thing that is pretty standard, to give you a warning of where/how many attacks are coming. The tail swipes are standard for rounds 2 and 3, increasing for each round.
As for the kind of coffee I drink, I post it on my site actually, as I usually drink multiple roasts/blends in a month. I have been doing a monthly recap of the games/coffees I play/drink each month since I think June.

The beginning of the attack can vary slightly, but the tail swipes in the middle are standard...I have another video from that night I may post up later this week, and it may help you see the pattern.
Ah, now I see how to tell which way she'll attack next in the combo attack, but I still can't tell how you know when she's going to start the combo attack.

I'm currently at battle 5 of Challenge mode facing Gargadan (the lion that has been fused with a demon/dragon and snake), and I'm kind of stuck. I don't think that he's that hard, but after you take him down twice, he seems to pull off an undodgeable attack that kills you in 1 hit. Does anyone know what to do here?
It's a great game, by the way. Thumbs up for GhostFire.

You have to swing/attack as soon as he starts charging basically. If that doesn't work, let me know, and I'll see if I can get a video up for it...

It worked! Thanks man, now I have my first A Rank in Challenge mode.
I'm now facing Ixthid and I'm having a hard time with him this time (I thought he was pretty easy in Normal mode). I'm having trouble with the 2 moves that are really similar to each other, the one where he backs down and then bites you. When he says "Die, insect!" he runs into you very slow and when he says the other line (which I cannot recall at the moment) he runs into you with a lot of speed. I was very tired when I fought him yesterday though, so I'm confident that I'll beat him tonight.

Ghostfire is prob tied with Shin'en my fav Wiiware developer. (Not counting Konami what with rebirth games--favorite original IP Wiiware developer) This game was just such a great evolution of Punch Out!! I found the RPG-style stat building a great addition and while there were a few somewhat wonky attacks/collision detections/pre-attack cue animations, overall it was stellar and worth far more than the 10 bucks I paid. I feel the same way about Jett Rocket.
I actually found this game's Challenge mode more difficult than Punchout Wii's Title Defense Mode. Even the Minotaur dude manhandled me the first time. The Wizard guy was NAAAAAASTY!

I just beat the game. Ixthid was by far the hardest boss. The final boss was a tad too easy, but an enjoyable fight. I'm now going to improve some of my ranks. Again, it's a great game, one of the better WiiWare games I've played.
@Swerd_Murd: I thought that Rage of the Gladiator was an excellent title, especially when considering its price. I haven't purchased Punch-Out!! on the Wii, because I'm a cheap gamer, and always try to get games that I will play for a long time if I spend $50 on them, and I wasn't sure how long I would play Punch-Out!!.
I would love to see Nintendo promote games like Rage of the Gladiator, and other WiiWare titles, by including download codes in new Wii systems and Wii Remote bundles.
@Yasume: The last boss gave me a lot of trouble...until my wife discovered something I didn't realize I could do! It was a pretty funny moment when it happened.
BTW, if you don't know, when you get a Rank: A on each Challenge Mode fight, you get something special in game.

Is that something you can do in multiple fights or just that one? If it works for multiple fights, could you tell us what it is?

Just that fight. It was something I wasn't doing, and didn't realize I could do, that is basically a requirement to defeat the boss. My wife plays games, and saw me repeatedly getting destroyed, and decided to give it a try...her first round solved all my problems. It was one of those, "Really!? How could I not have known!" moments.
Once I saw her do it, it was pretty simple after that.
