Hey! guys,

I've been really playing a lot on my Wii of late, I have some cracking GameCube & Wii games in my collection, games like Paper Mario & TLOZ WindWaker on Cube and DKCR, Mario Kart, SM Galaxy 1&2 etc. on Wii to name but a few.

This has got me thinking that it might well be worth picking up a second Wii console while they are still around with backwards compatibility just in case anything went wrong with my current console.

Have any of you done this or at least thought about doing the same?

Thanks!

Oops, I guess I didn't read your comment thoroughly enough... For me, the Wii has been a pretty long lasting system. Perhaps not as long lasting as the drop-off-a-nineteen-story-building-and-the-cement-breaks Gamecube, but still I wouldn't worry about grabbing another one. But they're selling for about 150 USD (and after a quick Google, 150 pounds) now, right? So if you're paranoid it might be a good idea to pick one up.

I think the word paranoid is a very good one, that's pretty much how I feel, it's more the Cube backwards compatibility I'm worried about if my current "launch" console was to pack up all of a sudden, I mean the Wii U which I fully intend to pick up will support Wii games, but I'd hate to lose out and not be able to play some good old Cube classics from time to time as I still own a few good ones, I'm just not sure if it's worth paying out for another Wii or not.

But I just can't help but wonder how much longer the backwards compatible Wii will be around?

if you only care about the backwards compoatibility just go buy a gamecube. My friend picked one up (used of course) at gamestop for really cheap. plus they are like invincible, i droped mine down the steps, and on to a cement floor and its fine !

I still have my Gamecube as well as my Wii so no problem for me if my Wii dies.

Yeah, I'd get a GameCube. I bought my brother a used one for Christmas a few years ago and he's still enjoying it. They're indestructible.
