Lol. If nothing else, I think this will help people tolerate IGN. =)

I never understood all the IGN hate here at NintendoLife. I really enjoy their reviews (especially their video reviews), I don't always agree with there grades, but I think it's a great site for video game reviews. So why all the hate?

Because unfortunately grades mean way too much to too many people.

IGN write very good reviews, for the most part.

Exactly, and reviews (and grades) are only the opinion of the reviewer so a different grade is normal. But if a review is well written (like IGN's mostly are) I have no problem with that. I don't understand why people keep saying IGNorant and stuff like that.

The problem people have here with IGN is the Bias they tend to show towards PS3/360 over Nintendo, and that certain people there think graphics are the be all and end all of gaming and they focus on this rather than gameplay. I rarely use IGN so couldn't comment on this myself but that is what I have picked up from here.

As for The AV club review it just seems to me that the person reviewing it has gone into the review with a negative outlook and this shows in the outcome. It also appears to me he hasn't finished the game or played it enough to be sharing his opinions with others. I haven't counted every single one in each game but I am pretty damn sure that Goombas and Koopas are as regular in NSMB:Wii as in other games and even if NSMB was full of them I am sure this reviewer would have said "This game shows no originality and reuses the same enemy over and over", I mean is that what people really want from a Mario game, to be facing the same (unchallanging) enemies over and over again?

Game reviewers should remember that they are potentially responsible for whether somebody buys a game or not, and although it is not a life changing decision they should still take care to make sure the review is factually correct, unbiased, and only written after thorough exploration of the subject. These are all attributes that appear to be missing from this review

I don't understand either. I like watching their video reviews too, and their Nintendo reviews are pretty spot on imo.

If you want to know what's wrong with IGN read their Rage of the Gladiator Hands-On. Apparently the game is for kids because of the level of witty commentary by your enemies and the lack of blood, despite being entirely about bashing the hell out of a series of opponents. The fact that the Chimera is described by its bits rather than simply called a Chimera, as if either the author isn't terribly well-read or assumes his audience isn't (and it's IGN, so maybe he's correct to do so ).

They're not completely horrible, but they're not too great either.

Some reviews on IGN are good....others are not. No, I don't agree with all the reviews; they are just opinions, but, sometimes the reviews just...well, suck. I don't mind the site, though.

Beats me. That's one of my favorite sites. Usually agree with their reviews.

Every website has its down moments - even Nintendolife has made horrible mistakes in the past with reviews in not considering context, or just plain ignoring parts critical parts of a game.

Doesn't mean Nintendolife is horrible, and doesn't mean IGN is horrible - I find, as a whole, IGN is a professional and well-written website.

on the IGN thing. I think the only few times I have really disliked IGN has been when they felt the need to tear into some games. There was a video review for a Sonic game, I think it was Sonic and the Black Knight, where whoever was voicing it spent the whole time making childish noises and raging at Sonic fans. Its alright to say that you don't like a game, its ok to recommend that people don't buy it but I draw the line at mocking. Oddly they didn't mock Ninjabread man nearly as much (but that's a vid review worth watching!)

For the most part I don't have a problem with IGN. Their reviews are pretty good and the whole media part of their site is much better than most sites. They might have a bias against Nintendo products but you don't see it from within the Nintendo channel, when they review cross platform games they always have good reasons for why the Wii version has better/worse scores. I can't say the same for a certain site that hosts trailers of games........ go there if you want bias, not IGN

When looking at Rage of the Gladiator they actually think it's gonna be a great game. But the things the enemies say make them look like a saturday kids show. And why not. When looking at the characters, they could very well be enemies from shows like The Power Rangers or the Beetleborgs I used to watch when I was little.

How is IGN mocking Sonic fans with their videoreview? Apart from the sound in the beginning of the review I don't think he is disrespectful against Sonic fans and brings up good and well supported points why the game isn't good in his opinion.
