Ok I got it! the game is set before Oot you play as a young Ganondorf way before he was evil you go through varios trials that will eventualy make you the leader of the Gerudo. now unbeknownst to Ganon his Mothers has plans for his future .. but then soo does Nabooru. Depending how you play you can either change history and become a good man or set it and become the evil king we all remember.

The wolf in Twilight Princess was a creative way to return to the duality of two worlds kind of thing (Ocarina of Time/Link to the Past), but I'd rather see this done with two actual maps like back in the SNES days. The technology available now could make for a way more complex exploration of both worlds, and their similarities/differences.
Personally, I don't think Nintendo has a timeline. I think they make most games as if they were series reboots and occasionally toss out comments about the timeline to please that small segment of fans who cares about it. And I don't mean that to put down those who do. There's nothing wrong with that.
I prefer to think of each game on individual terms though; after all, it's a legend, meaning it's a tale told down throughout countless generations and has likely undergone the telephone effect, where each storyteller has changed the story somewhat with the subsequent telling. To me, that's all the series is, story-wise: variations of the same basic story, altered each time due to being passed down for so long.
I'm glad Nintendo has been rather soft spoken on the issue so that we can each interpret it as we want.

I'm singling this out because I know somebody's going to pop up and say BUT NINTENDO SAID THEY HAVE A DEFINITE TIMELINE AND IT'S TOP SECRET.
And yes, that's true. Nintendo has said that.
But they're lying. They make games; they're not writing a series of epic novels. If things happen to line up between games, great. Nintendo is telling you there's a timeline so that, if you're into that sort of thing, you can futz around with it and try to get the games to fit your interpretation.
But if there is TRULY a timeline sitting on Nintendo's computers that they adhere to religiously when they design their games, I will eat my hat.

And if there truly isn't, I give the moderators permission to feed him a hat. Also, I think if there were a timeline sitting around the office, they'd do a better job of explaining it in the games and following it themselves rather than giving only the vaguest of references in some of the games and ignoring it entirely in others.

Maybe something like Elder Scrolls on XBOX 360? With all of the races you can pick, sidequests, and a main quest centreing around ganondorf. I dunno...
You do realise the split timeline was confirmed by Aonuma, right?
I might now be making a fool of myself but please explain because I have no idea what your referring to
he's talking about Eiji Aonuma, who's served as designer/producer/director/whatever on LoZ titles since OoT, and the Split Timeline theory.
BEST THREAD EVER future of NL >:3
[16:43] James: I should learn these site rules more clearly
[16:44] LztheBlehBird: James doesn't know the rules? For shame!!!

Wow thanks. That was a good article. Things kind of make sense now. Correction then, they shuold fill the gap between OoT and WW and show how Ganandorf escaped.

And to get this back on topic, I hope the next Zelda breaks to mold in terms of plot, like MM did, but I doubt that will be the case, since as it has been stated, the series is basically a retelling of the same legend where some of the details are changed from previous installments. And actually, I am quite ok with that.
