Shorter main quest? I thought TP was way too short :/

Well, it seemed to go on forever to me. I think there can be a good compromise that will appeal to everyone via side quests, so that someone like me can just play the main story and skip them (which I pretty much did, because you know Hyrule Castle being trapped behind a magic force field and evil spirits invading the country seemed more important than catching bugs or going fishing for some bizarre reason) if desired.

A more manageable core story (I'm thinking 10-15hrs., but I wouldn't turn up my nose at 20) with bigger side quests (as others have suggested) so that the "core" Zelda fans can spend months in the game if they like seems like a good way to do it.

The shorter story is not going to happen as the dungons themselves take upwards to 2 to 3 hours. Add 6 or 7 of them and your already at 12 to20 hours just from that. I don't see them taking the amount of dungons down as those are what makes the zelda games what they are today.

And I would also like to see more fishing. Would have been nice to fish in the big lake in TP.

I'd like a sweeping tale of epic awesomeness that will take me 100 hours to complete. Then, I'd like to spend another 100 hours collecting equipment and cheese, which, when I finish the game again, rewards me with an extended ending like Prime.

And yes, MORE FISHING!

That assumes the next game will follow the same formula of the preceding games though - do people really want that?

I know many people dislike the repeated formula of OoT, but I love it. Just give me a bigger over-world, more dungeons, and I will be very happy.

I'm open to new ideas though, and am hoping Nintendo manage to please both sides of the fence.

@Sean Aaron I know I do. From the very first zelda to the last its always been mostly about the dungons. You are right though scared as they might take it in a different direction. I think its obvious you not a big fan of the zelda games and maybe your that type of person nintendo might be going after this time around.

I will give you one thing you said. The side quest need to be more rewarding as in twilight princes they were not that fun. That's why OoT still is my fav. Among the zeldas.

Are you implying Twilight Princess is anything like the original Zelda? Because it's not. Not only is the formula very different, but it's also significantly shorter, and the better for it, I'd say. Games get tedious when played too long. You can't sustain the depressing mood of Twilight Princess for 30+ hours or however long it took and expect no one to grow weary of it long before it's over.

Movies have come to a consensus that they should generally be around two hours, three hours tops. Music albums generally don't go over the hour mark even though the space-limited CD is no longer the primarily means of distribution thanks to Apple. But games are still pushing to be longer and longer each generation, and for some reason most reviews enforce this by judging games by "how many hours they offer."

A few months ago I played Left for Dead at a friend's house, forgot the name. Not really my kind of thing, but I was impressed by how they handled game length. Instead of shoving all this content together, they separated them into independent stories. I'd like to see more games try that model or other methods of including enough content to satisfy content-hungry customers but make it more manageable for those who don't want to spend forty hours to see the end of some drawn out story arc.

Yeah, I mean the extended boss battle sequence at the end of Twilight Princess felt almost like they were padding the game out - I was just glad I didn't have to go through a full-on repeat of the previous boss battles!

Having said all I said before and acknowledging that I'm not a fan of the previous entries in the series and traded in Twilight Princess after playing it once, I'm still more interested to see how this game is going to turn out than any other upcoming Nintendo-produced game (that we know of presently). Hopefully it will be something that series fans and newcomers can enjoy.

Hopefully you get the review!!! Love your reviews. I think since your not a fan of the series you would not be bias to the review!

I think there's little chance of that happening, but thanks. I think there's some unwritten rule around here that since I'm not actually a fan of any past Nintendo consoles or franchises that I don't get to review any Nintendo games. That and so many of the staff are that I'd need them to either all be sick with food poisoning or die before I'd have a hope of fighting them off to get my hands on it!

I want a throwback dungeon to a one from Ocarina of Time.

Edgey, Gumshoe, Godot, Sissel, Larry, then Mia, Franziska, Maggie, Kay and Lynne.

I'm throwing my money at the screen but nothing happens!

The towns in the Zelda games have always been terribly weak. Games like Final Fantasy have multiple towns that are at least somewhat interesting. I'd really love to see them get rid of Goron's and Zora's because I honestly don't care for them at all. I liked the Zelda world Pre OOT (though OOT was still a good game). I'd rather the world was populated with more people less monsters, mutants, alien people whatever they are. TP had terrible sidequests and non-existant character development. I liked the dungeons and puzzles though. Also make the horse control as seamless as walking because the horse is incredibly clunky especially when galloping. Horses don't ride like tractors, and they don't run into walls, they are actually quick to react and can change direction quickly. Give me more dedicated controls the action button has always been a joke. I want to jump when I want not when I'm allowed to. Get rid of all the useless weapons. Why do I need a slingshot when I get the bow shortly after? Most of the extra items are barely used in TP. I can't remember the last time I needed to use a potion in a Zelda game does anyone actually bother buying them? Also what's the point of money in the game when there's nothing useful to buy other than bombs that you need to buy once and then you find them for free.

I'd really love a much less linear game. I'd really like to see more swords and armour/outfits perhaps ones that aren't so specific to only certain situations ie. the heavy boots, zora armour etc. Give me some character development. Put something in the world don't just make it big and empty. There is so much room for improvement. Let me buy things with all that money and don't limit me with wallets and then throw all my money away when I save and quit.

Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate, would you kindly?

Zelda definitely does not need more towns. They're embarrassing enough as it is. I like the original's approach where it's almost apocalyptic. The few citizens remaining are locked in caves. I'd love to see how they'd handle that with more expressive graphics and storytelling abilities. The NES days it could be written off as a quirk, but I think it'd be genuinely interesting if treated somewhat more seriously -- though Twilight Princess took itself too seriously, so a balance must be found.

I liked Zelda II's towns, though, very functional. I just wouldn't want to have to put up with all the dialog that would necessarily entail in the more serious game that Zelda has become. Celda could handle the goofiness of Zelda II's townspeople I think, if dialog for NPCs was minimal and light, but not OoT/TP Zelda.

YOU TAKE THAT BACK!

Because knowing Nintendo, they'll make it the Water Temple.

Dear Sega and Nintendo: a Sonichu game would totally rock, make it happen!

Actually that would be pretty cool. I liked the non-"human" characters, but outside of Link's village and the castle town none of the other places felt real - no real signs of habitation, just some people hanging around for no apparent reason. Having the open world that feels like a living, breathing place would be pretty cool without having to feel like some endless slog of conversation. I mean, you could easily have optional dialogue that leads characters on side quests just like Twilight Princess, only richer and more involved, though again, this might be too big a break from past games for some people.

I would like more towns but as Sean says they should all be a bit more populated and serve a purpose. Adventure of Link did this right.

Another thing I want changed are the classic themes. I don't want play through a forest temple, water temple, ice temple, sand temple, fire temple etc. AGAIN! I'd like to see other things. I would like an electric/steampunk/technology-style temple with gears and contraptions. That would make great puzzles. The Temple of Time in TP was kinda like that but rather linear.

An interesting way to create a more open-enede feel would be if they add in a Mega Man-style game progression. There is still the dungeon items but you can choose the order in which you play through the dungeons. Each dungeon item is powerful against one particular boss so you have to figure out a way to beat them in the easiest way.

The bigger and more interactive towns would be a plus. TPs towns were a joke even compared to OoT. There needs to be more with more meaningful side quest. I swear if i have to catch one more chicken for someone again! Give me side quest that give more heart pieces or upgrades to your weapons. Make me want to collect 50 bugs to get the best weapon in the game. OoT did this. Remember the broken sword you could get fixed by the gorons. Did´nt need it to beat the game but added to the content of the overall game. It was slower but more powerful then your best sword. I do love TP but think it was a bit of a step back for the series as a whole.
