E3 is on the horizon, and with it, a hopeful sneak peek of the Wii-exclusive Zelda. What are your dreams and hopes for it?
Personally, I would like a bit of a shift in the formula. The one that's changed little in terms of mechanics and gameplay since forever. Tradition is nice, but games should be an evolving medium as well. Too radical a shift wouldn't work, else it may be something divisive like Wind Waker - a game that just did not do enough to win over some people, like me. Sure, TP is a good game, but it's also Zelda 64 redux.

It will be schism like Majora's Mask did to Ocarina.

Shorter final boss battle, Gandondorf in Twilight Princess was a bit much after that other weirdo, Zand, or whatever his name was. Also a shorter main quest; hopefully not a pure recycling of the "elemental temples" seen in pretty much all the other games.
I may get reamed and torn apart for this...but I would be happy with a more action, less annoying puzzles approach. Maybe even a hybrid gameplay style like Other M. Crucify me if you want, but I enjoyed Zelda II, and the emphasis on action. It may sound blasphemous, but I think some 2.5D action segments mixed with traditional free-roaming (kinda like what they did in SMG) could work favorably.

This. Also harder bosses. As much as almost all of the TP bosses looked great, it was a shame how short most of them was.

Ganon is visited by three spirits on Christmas Eve, who show him his past (Princess Zelda), his present (some Goron I guess) and his yet-to-come (Tingle with a scythe). It culminates with a climactic scene in which Ganon breaks down beside the yet-to-come grave of Little Link, and asks the spirit if these are visions of what will be, or what might be only. In a touching end cinematic, Ganon wakes up on Christmas Day to find himself a changed man. He skips giddily through Hyrule passing out rupees and buying useless junk from merchants like nobody's business, and he gives his temple bosses the whole day off.

Also, the gravity gun from Half-Life 2.

BRILLIANT YOU WIN THE THREAD

i want them to bring back the sword--laser from a link to the past. being able to shoot things from your sword was too awesome for the 3D games to handle, but red steel 2 worked in some similar sword--blasting abilities using the motion plus in a way that made sense.
I'd like a long main quest with plenty of dungeons along with lots of sidequests (it's not the N64 era anymore, I don't see why we can't have both). I'd also like to see more story and character development, like in MM. Lastly, it would be awesome to have multiple playable characters, especially Zelda, even if it was just for a small section of the game (maybe she needs to rescue Link)?

Shorter main quest? I thought TP was way too short :/
The best strategy in the game: go up stairs and pause balls.
I second everything Sean and Pidgey have said. And if we were to go beyond a wishlist and into the realm of pure fancy, I'd like it to be a completely open world with no enforced sequence of play whatsoever other than to beat all dungeons before getting to the final one.
And bring back the Second Quest so that we can have a game that still has a lot of content without taking forever. I understand gaming is moving forward and all that means to many is cramming as much content onto a disc as possible, but it'd be nice if they considered that not everyone wants to play a game for thirty to forty hours to get to the end. No game can last that long without dragging at some point. The original's approach of breaking the game up in two was genius, even if it was a total after thought.
And Zelda gets naked at the end. Or Link, same difference.
@Shadx... too short, It took me 70 hrs to beat it and get most everything.
Id like to see a Majoras Mask type game again. Something different and away from the normal Zelda that has been released twice recently on DS. I liked the dark atmosphere and creepy mask, sequel please.
Just no clown.... I Flippin HATE Clown! Mask kinda made me think of that.... so got that Nintendo.... no clowns! NIGHTS still gives me nightmares.
I would like to see dare i say this more towns more side quest ala oblivion or fallout 3. The story in my opinion is just the right length. Just imagine obilivon with a zelda flair.
Also think wind waker was the second best zelda next to Oot. It just had more depth then most of the zeldas games. For those that dismissed it for its graphics or travel by boat that miss a very good game.

If I was only ever able to have Monster Hunter and EO games in the future, I would be a happy man.
I would say cell shaded graphics but obviously that's not in the cards. So I'm going to go with less linear. Although it's pretty heavily flawed, I really liked the idea that in the first Zelda you could do the dungeons out of order. That might make them tone down the story (which I'm not sure I'd like) but I think it'd be worth a shot.

Fishing better be a hardcore sidequest, heartpeice locations in freakin awesome locations, whatever items we may get better do some cool a** s***, another sort of collectible like the masks(hell if they brought them back and made it work I'd be welcome to it), epic field battles that make you want to battle every enemy you, wanting to use the lantern like they said they would do in the first one, epic boss battles that last me forever but dont just hack and slash til they fall(well maybe... IDK, I just dont want a small oppurtiny to hit the boss, I either want to go nuts on it, have creative ways to exloit the boss, or tame it and use it for the dungeon), Gorons and zoras are playable(or sidekicks or something), killer sidequests, personal interaction, a huge field that has SO MUCH stuff to do, options for left and right hand, awesome motion controls, different suits and shoes to wear, better graphics, awesome music, multiple swords, when something hits Link(or something is thrown at him) and he shields it I want to be knocked back(shows Links humanity, and that he isn't a God) more personality in the characters, voice acting... Idk I could go on forever, I'm just listing the things right off the top of my head.
I thought all you sock puppets knew each other. This is the only way Chicken can express such views, given that he's gotten Orlick banned so many times.

linearity was definitely the biggest weakness of twilight princess; the moment you finished one dungeon you'd wind up at the doorstep of the next. dungeons are the backbone of the game, they give it it's difficulty and depth, but they're not really fun; i've always enjoyed just wandering around and doing random tasks more than actually progressing through the game.
majora's mask and windwaker are the most free and open in that regard and coincidentally are my two favorites, so i hope when they said they were altering the progression of the game that they meant going further in those directions. towards the end, windwaker even let you choose which dungeon to do first, which felt really liberating to do. it'd be nearly impossible to let you choose any dungeon in any order and still make the game work, but at least a few more instances of choice would be nice.
