Yeah, we seriously need some more C64 and Arcade games. The C64 lineup is miniscule at best, the Arcade is a total joke, and the N64 is just plain humiliating, almost like Nintendo is trying to pretend the N64 didn't exist and that it only got a new game once every year or something.
Not to mention, we still don't have Rondo of Blood, so....
I would pay cash monies for an official Dreamcast emulator. Build it into the disk channel, since DC downloads wouldn't be feasible on Wii; I would love to play my Dreamcast games by popping the old GDROM into my Wii.
They could also offer Virtual Boy games. They could even include a 3D mode; sell glasses at stores for those that don't have a pair. I would also like to see Game Boy/Color/Advanced games release on Virtual Console, and not just DSi. Games like Golden Sun on your TV would be neat, plus the chances for import games. MSX2 stateside would be nice if they brought Metal Gear import titles with them (they already have the translation from Subsistence)
Really, though, I'd be happy if they just started to add more support for the ones they have, especially the Arcade. Lots of potential in the Arcade for games I've tossed countless quarters at-- Space Harrier being the biggest one that would be easy to adapt.
I have to agree with not adding another vc system at this time.
There only has been 2 new C64 releases since March and there only has been 5 C64 vc releases in North America in total. There hasn't been any new arcade releases in North America since the 4 in March.
The problem is Nintendo doesn't release a lot of vc games in America in a week. That is a problem since the vc has 7 systems In North America on the vc without counting the C64 and the Arcade.
I might be looking at it differently if Nintendo releases 2 vc games a week.
I love your idea, but it's way more than a firmware update for something totally unecessary at a marketing standpoint. I would put money on Microsoft pulling something of this nature before Nintendo ever did....

Not really. They could charge for the dreamcast emulator, and it would be totally justified. The disk wouldn't be read like Wii/GC games, where it surrenders full control of the hardware to the game; it would be read like your computer reads disks in emulators. It would load the emulator off local memory, and use that to run the content on the disk. Basically, software compatibility, not hardware, like some PS3s do.
The dreamcast would probably be hard to emulate, though it should be doable. They should definitely have no problems pulling off Sega CD, though.
Were it a perfect world and Ninty were actually doing a bang-up job of releasing VC titles.....I'd have to say the MSX (as in, bringing it stateside) and Sega CD support. On the MSX, we seriously missed out on some classic games (the first Parodius, Metal Gear 1 and 2 in their original forms), and the Sega CD had its share of great games as well (Snatcher, Sonic CD, Silpheed, the Lunar games).
I'd kill to have these on VC, and it's my hope that we eventually do. But I'm in agreement with just about everyone so far. Let's see some much needed support for the current VC systems we've got, Nintendo!

as I understand it, the GDROM format is CD-based, and the Wii can't read CDs. you can fool a CD player if you're careful, but can a DVD drive be upgraded somehow to be able to read that format?
BEST THREAD EVER future of NL >:3

Exactly, if the Wii can't read CDs, it sure as hell won't be able to read GD-ROMs without more than a firmware update. I have a Dreamcast, and you can find one for $20 used.
