Topic: New Super Mario Brothers Wii?

Can somebody explain to me what is so good about Super Mario Brothers Wii? I played the game a bit at Best Buy and I don't like the way Mario moves that much, I don't like the new power ups much, I don't like all the moving platforms that much, (not because they are hard but just because I don't like them) I don't really like the music and I don't like that they added two toads instead of actual characters. I only played the first level so I don't want to judge it yet but can somebody who actually has the game explain to me why it is so good? I don't understand it yet. I can't really judge the game off of the first level but at this moment, I would rather get Super Mario Brothers 1 or 3 because I know I like those. Thank you.

I would rather get Super Mario Brothers 1 or 3 because I know I like those.
Why? Because you actually gave those games a chance? Why don't you go buy/rent/borrow NSMBW, play it for about 5-8 hours, and then get back to us.

1: I know I haven't given it a chance. I said that. I haven't been able to give it a chance because I only got to play level one. I have watched all the nintendo channel videos and a few youtube ones and done a lot of research online and haven't seen why it is so good. That is why I am asking people who have it. That is just my opinion from what I have seen so far. I am asking why it is good, not flaming the game.

2: I know it's on the VC. That's what I was talking about. I don't have a huge game library yet (I just got my Wii and DSi around Christmas) but I do a lot of research using Nintendo Life and wiki sites.

Just because I haven't been on the comments and forums much doesn't mean I haven't been visiting the site.

And those opinions are what I am asking for. That is just my first impression from reading and playing a little bit, I don't quite understand why it is so popular and I want to know so I know if I ever want to get it or not. If this game is so good then can someone tell me why I am wrong instead of just telling me that I am wrong? I know I am probably wrong as everyone seems to love this game. I even said I can't judge the game yet.

You're really not making a great deal of sense here. If you said you can't judge this game, why are you judging it then? You can't really form a fair opinion of something by spending just a few minutes with it. Why not rent the game and spend some time on it? You're being considerably close-minded here.

Personally speaking, I enjoyed the game quite a bit. If you liked the previous 2-D Mario games (especially SMB3 and SMW), you'll probably get into this one pretty quick. Multiplayer is a blast although I've mostly played solo. Controls are simple to learn and the new moves Mario has really expands the way you play the game. It's actually harder to go back to the previous Mario games knowing you can't bounce off walls like in this one.

Your reasons for not liking the game are so ridiculously unreasonable that I honestly can't think of anything to say. New Super Mario Bros. Wii has quite possibly the best local multiplayer ever conceived, incredibly creative level design and provides a ton of content and challenge.

people, like myself, love it because its simple, classic gameplay and superb level design are just pure fun that hearkens back to SMB and SMB 3 which you've already said you like. i'll admit, i, too, thought at first Mario's control was a bit more slippery than it used to be, but it's really just a slight difference that changes nothing. give it a serious go, and i'm confident you'll like it. if not, you can take it back to gamestop within 7 days for a full refund. no worries.

Otherwise my opinion of NSMBW consists of: It's the best 2-D game on the Wii. The power-ups are awesome from using the penguin suit to flying through the air with the propeller hat. The levels are all unique in their own little way, while adding more replay value if your going for 100% by collecting all of the Star Coins. Controls work really well and the graphics are awesome too. The boss battles really bring back the nostalgic feel of the previous Mario games.

Though as you read the reviews you'll see they think the Multiplayer is the high point of the game whereas I thought the high point of the game was in the single player mode. Maybe because I grew up playing Mario by myself, single player.

It's just the same old 2D Mario formula in the style of SMB3 or Super Mario World. If you like that, then you'll like the game. If you are looking for something other than that or a game with extensive replay value, then you're probably not going to like it. It's not Nintendo's best work, but it's certainly not their worst either.

Those two are probably the best reviews of the game's pros and cons and they don't fall prey to fanboy bias like many other reviews did.

New Super Mario Bros. Wii in one word: GREAT.

Let me give you 7 reasons why it's by far the best 2D Mario yet.

1. Great controls
2. Great levels
3. Great gameplay
4. Great replayability
5. Great graphics (see it in HD and you will be A.M.A.Z.E.D!)
6. Great power-ups (the Propeller Suit is my favorite.)
7. Great multi-player

These are only just my opinions, also.

It is beyond me why so many are down-casting this guy. He has quite profusely stated that his thinking stems from first impressions (I'm sure we all have these) and that he isn't trying to judge.

At any rate, I agree with him. To me, this game is embellished to be something much grander than it is. That's my view. I'm happy for those who enjoy the game but one must learn to respect the differences that divide us - Mario fans included. Lets keep this civilised.

It isn't that I don't enjoy 2D platform games as I do adore many such titles. I just found this game didn't hold my attention well or give me much of a thrill. This is admittedly a petty nark of mine, but I never took to the choices in colour of Toads, and how my favourite colour Yoshi (pink) was always last to be hatched in the occasional, short-lasting levels that you could ride one.

But my main reasoning isn't easy to put into words. I just couldn't get into it. It's the kind of game I'd play as a last resort if there was absolutely nothing else. Sure, I'm a black sheep for that, but I can only be honest.

To be honest. Nothing is special about the game. SMB1, 2 , 3 World and Yoshis island are all far better then this game.

Wario Land Shake it is a better game as well.

I cant understand how the game is selling so well because when you actually play it is a mere shadow of the former titles.

People are in denial about it but the game is not that good at all.

As usual Nintendo is winning because the reputation is keeping the franchise afloat but as for actual game playing, try megaman 9 or 10.

Really, there isn't too much special about New Super Mario Bros Wii aside from the co-op feature. Sure, Mario gains a move or two and grabs a couple oddball power-ups like the penguin suit, but none are truly all that game-changing. Not to mention Yoshi is WAY under utilized and the propeller suit is far over-used. Save yourself $30 by buying Super Mario World and Mario 1-3. Super Mario World is surprisingly comparable to New Super Mario Bros Wii in terms of content, and only $8. o.O

Well I think the game is GREAT! I love the co-op although I haven't gotten to use it that much. The single player is still classic Mario platforming IMHO. The Penguin and Propeller Suits are fun power ups to use in this game. I didn't think it was as hard as a lot of people seemed to think but it was definetely a lot harder than something like NSMB on DS. Yoshi is, unfortunetely, greatly underused, but it's awesome when you do get to use him. I thought the level design was great and some of the levels were a lot of fun to play. I don't like this one as much as Super Mario World but overall I think it's another great 2D Mario platformer.

Game was cool, but it was really easy and starting to get boring after a while. Sold my copy. Super Mario Galaxy 2 is gonna be so much better though. Overall the Wii needs more good games. At least it has VC which is a strong point IMO.
