So a few weeks ago I tried to update to 4.2 or whatever the new Wii Shop forced update is. The update failed. And bricked my Wii.
Fortunately, I called Nintendo and they agreed to repair it for no charge. Got it back recently, booted it up today to find: EVERYTHING WIPED. No Save data. No games (backed up on SD card thank God, thsoe re-downlaods would take forever) No FC's
I'm in the process of trying to get everything sorted out but facts are I lost all save data for about 40 games (or more, really.) Sure, I could have backed some of them on an SD if I was psychic, but then again, there are games like SSBB (which I have) and MHTri that don't let you. So you lose hundreds of hours of gameplay/progress. (I was 98% complete on SSBB with over 150 hours.)
Rant 1: Nintendo should let all save data be back-up-able. (Yes, it doesn't help me now but it might help others.)
Rant 2: Please re-add me and let me know when you do so. If you don't have a BL that I'm aware of, please include your Fc as well.
EDIT: I'd like to add that I AM grateful that Nintendo un-bricked the system, even though it was their own damn fault. (Though it was in their best interest as I would not have bought another Wii and would have sold all my games and they would have lost me as a customer.)
However, as it stands, I'll prolly have to (feel compelled to) sell several of my games as I've just lost too much to try and start over (especially with Brawl.)

Esp. Monster Hunter and SSBB, those are long games. How many saves did you have backed-up.

Turns out I had no saves backed up. It surprised me because I was pretty sure I had a few on there for playing the game at a friend's. But many games I played a lot of (Brawl, RE:UC and DC, Trauma Center) won't let you put them on a SD because they use WIFI.

I feel your pain dude. This happened to me when I sent my constantly glitchy console to Nintendo. Fortunately I had a couple backed up files but not all. But that isn't the end, It happened AGAIN when the same problem came up. I was more prepared that time with back-ups for every game without online features. Nintendo really needs aome feature where you can hold back up save files in an account online or something so people don't have to go through this. Also, are you sure your Wiiware and VC games are OK? They may show up on your SD Menu but they may not work anymore since its very likely they totally replaced your system. I had that problem and had to re-download all 150-something games to the system.
No, I checked and my Wii Shop Channel account is fine, so all my SD-backed games are fine too (they all say redownloadable on the shop which means it recgnizes them.) EDIT: OH GDI TO HELL. You're right, its gonna make me redownload all of them. Seriously??? WTF??

Well, I remember reading somewhere that they do give out a warning that you could lose all of your save data. Still dunno why SSBB and Tri can't be saved onto an SD card, kinda sucks to lose stuff like those games. T_T

If you feel that way, don't get a Xbox 360. You'll be sending it off to the shop way more than the Wii, and sometimes it won't be in their best interest to fix the machine for you.
It sucks but at least you learned a valuable lesson from this - always back up your save files on an SD card in case your files on the Wii get corrupted.
i think nintendo updates these from time to time, because at the release of Super mario strikers charged i was not able to save the data on sd card because online functionality but last time i tried and it worked the game uses 3 blocks but on sd card only 2 so i think nintendo let you save the data on sd card but not the online statistics
Oh sweet Mama, that means re-downloading...over 5,500 blocks of games (22 games.) Wow, thanks for rewarding me as a loyal customer. Seriously, why must one re-downlaod the games if the Wii Shop Account is still linked??

A) already have a 360. meh
B) Yeah, if I don't give up on the Wii as it is. Seriously. I might just do cut my losses at this point.

There are sites where you can download save files for those games you lost, but you'll have to start over from the beginning with SSBB and MH3
If its not against site rules, anyone wanna point me in the right direction? My games can be found here: http://backloggery.com/objection

If that happened to me Id be unhappy that my WiFi games would be gone, but happy that my VC/WW/Non WiFi wii games games are uncorrupted.

Thanks for the link, killer6370. I will only be using it for game saves and not for anything bad. Hopefully, this ease the pain a little.

this site helped me because i was playing Legen of Zelda twilligt princess then my wii got an error an erased my files my last backup was in the 2 dungeon an i dont wanted to play it all over again so i searched a file tha was just 10 minutes after my gameplay
yeah, there's nothing wrong with sharing game saves. just be careful the saves you're downloading are from your region's Wii -- i tried to help Roops in chat one day because he was stuck in OoT and couldn't explain the problem, so he uploaded his save file for me to try, and it didn't work. the funny thing was that my Wii totally recognized it as an OoT savefile, it just kept telling me that I had to have already downloaded the game (wiis recognize different region games as entirely different games apparently) in order for me to use it. :/
anyway, that sucks, OB, and i kinda know how you feel -- i had to redownload all my DSiWare back when i had to send mine in. i forget exactly how many games i had then, but it was definitely a buttload because i'd been reviewing for a few months already at the time :/

[16:43] James: I should learn these site rules more clearly
[16:44] LztheBlehBird: James doesn't know the rules? For shame!!!
I think the reason the Wiiware/VC won't play on your Wii is because it has a different ID that doesn't match that of the console the games were originally downloaded to. Basically, as far as your system is concerned, all the games currently on the SD card belong to a different system. At least they are still re-downloadable though and not just gone.
